  • The Palace of Versailles is a former royal residence commissioned by King Louis XIV located in Versailles, about 19 kilometers (12 mi) west of Paris, France.
About 15,000,000 people visit the palace, park, or gardens of Versailles every year, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.[3]
Open every day, the Park and Gardens are free from November to March. From April to October, access to the Gardens is charged from Tuesday to Sunday (days of the Fountains shows and Musical Gardens). To make the most of your visit at Versailles, plan to spend a full day in the estate.
If you are in Paris and want to visit the palace take the The RER C line ($4) per person each way. This train travels through Paris from east to west while following the river Seine. Each station is about 10 minutes from the next stop, and the train comes every 15 minutes.
There are guided tours but you will have a set schedule.
You can conduct your own tour and wander as you wish.
