My wife and I were there a few years ago. There’s a train station near the Arch of Triumph that goes there. When you get there, you have two options, wait in line for a long time to buy tickets, or pay a few extra euros for a guided tour and you go right in.

There is also an elevator at the Arch de Triumph that goes under the street so you don't have to wait a long time to cross the very busy traffic. A very nice police officer told me. Guess she felt sorry for me standing there forever.

when you get off the train, just across the road, you can buy tickets from the visitors' office. This is the standard ticket, still queue to get into the gates.

I vaguely remember visiting the palace about 25 years ago. But at that time I couldn't truly appreciate this stunning building both aesthetically and historically. I do aim to visit again one day and give it the proper respect it deserves.

I spent a morning here about 18 years ago. Was very crowded in prime areas like the hall of mirrors but once you go out into the grounds you have more space to yourself to explore. I'd love to revisit this masterpiece of European architecture someday as I think I'd appreciate it more at my age now.

i have visited Versailles 5 times and there is nothing better than waking up at the Waldorf and looking outside towards Le Hameau as the fog lifts - back in the 18th century it must've been heaven on earth.

Thank you for this wonderful visit, a very precise and sobre description. Yes Versailles is a jewel and even in this detailed video not all is shown. Far from it. The clocks (Horloges) for instance is a topic in itself. The hidden passages (Passages secrets) is another one. The history of the water pumps and aqueduc bringing an enormous quantity of water, uphill using the river force. The water plays (les jeux d'eaux), etc. To some extent, Versailles is similar to the Violet Imperial City of Yongle 3rd of the Ming dynasty in Beijing: a city with a complete administration to rule over an entire country.

If you have not go to Chateau La Lande on You Tube. You can also go in person as it is a Bed and Breakfast as well.(been closed as Bed and Breakfast during Pandemic) It has a tie to King Louis the XVI He married Marie Antoinette and he asked someone from that Chateau La Lande to go to receive Marie when she arrived in France. The hx is given when you first go to the site on UA-cam. They have been doing it over as there are so many rooms and Stephanie has lived ( and owned the home) there for fourteen years. It has had hundreds of years with Marquiets of France who lived in the home. It is an ongoing restoration and done with much love. It actually is very lovely. People volunteer and some work there and live her at the same time in their own areas.
Just think you may well like seeing this video too? Although the Chateau of La Lande is not quite as exquisite as this one, yet it is very large and has many rooms and has been done over very well. It also has a small chapel on the property

These interior spaces are likely more enjoyable when experienced as they are in this film as opposed to the typical reality of borderline unbearable crowds and elbow to elbow slow moving groups. It's tough to experience frankly if you're not good with crowds and lack of exits. If I were to go back I'd simply just hop out to the back and enjoy the grounds again as they're the highlights imo. Grab one of the 30/hour golf carts and enjoy the grounds at your leisure.

The backyard was something else because all these houses dillow along the side of the palace along to couriers and others so they had the whole back yard too.

      Don't listen to Jimmy.
Nobody would notice. Especially if you went in with period style dress and could speak 18th century French. They would just think you're part of the re-enactments.
BUT I wouldn't recommend using any of the royal beds unless you don't mind being waken by tourists walking by your bedside.
If I were to squat in the Palace, I would take the private quarters or servant quarters.
There, nobody would know any better.

It's breathtaking! I guess no one would ever get to sit down for a meal in any of those rooms, ever! LOL You know they had to be used at some point in some of the areas. However, as it was said most is not for public viewing, so what do they do with the rest of the spaces?

Hi Gale, there is a restaurant in an upper suite of rooms. It is expensive but beautiful. There is also a small cafe where the food is limited but excellent quality. You would be surprised how much of the palace you get to see. It is huge and a two day ticket is very reasonable. They are restoring the rooms still so some you can see before restoring. This film is literally just a glimpse of what there is to see. I have been four times and still not seen it all. Go IF you can. It’s wonderful!

Keep in mind that in this entire complex there isn't a single room (as I have heard) for personal duties (like rest room/toilet) so maybe those rooms have not been cleaned up yet? LOL. But seriously, how did they manage in those days?

It would be interesting to know how many nobles and princes and their families actually lived there during the time of Louise 1V and Louise V1. Does anyone know?

    • @heliedecastanet1882
      @heliedecastanet1882 Рік тому

You mean Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI (1V and V1 don't exist in Roman number). Well, there were actually about 10 000 people a day in the château, and among those 10 000, 3 000 living inside : the king, the queen, their family (Children, grandchildren, cousins, etc), servants, some aristocrats (for example Saint-Simon, Montespan, Maintenon, Duras, Richelieu, Lambesc, Lamballe, etc, etc), ministers. If you want to know, you just have to read Mémoires from these times. People are named.
