He must of been to many power shifts to that kind of damage .hahahahaha I like the 2 cycle DKW that you have in the corner with a point for each cylinder running off the crank shaft I believe since I haven't seen one in sixty years. Back then all kinds of cars were coming into the states from Europe and England.
4:35 That's what ripped the rubber couplers. However they did their job, saving the driveshaft and gearbox from being damaged by the locked chaindrive. Are these couplers really made only from rubber? The ones that were in my old Mercedes were fabric reinforced hard rubber and held up for 200k km
Broken Chain ist Not very unusal. In Most cases IT ruined the housing. I Had the Same Problem at my 1955 Standard Isetta. The Guibo construction ist rubbish. There ist a modification with a small Axel with homocinetic junctions. Just ask the German Isetta Club. The Guibos are used far away from manufacturers Specs.
A bore scope through the oill fill plug would immediately reveal what has happened inside the chain case.
I suspect the quibos split when the drive seized.
Exactly! That's why they are there!
Love the small cars!
Me too
Whose rear end still works like it should after close to 65 years?
😝 not mine

Your positive attitude makes these videos Mark !
Can't wait to see what is inside that chain case!

If the drive chain broke and locked up, it probably caused the tears in the rubber "Guibos."
Guibo sounds like something Tony Soprano would call a guy if he didn’t like him lol.
It's actually GIUBO- "Giunto Boschi" or "Boschi Joint" after the Italian engineer who invented it back in the 1950s.
The drive doughnuts look exactly the same as the ones used on Hillman Imps.
Drive chains, just like timing chains, wear out and need to be replaced on a regular basis.
I'll be interested in seeing what the axle looks like inside. Probably good you weren't the one that rebuilt that axle! 😳
Ooo cute R5. I love those! Let me know if it comes up for sale.
😁
Aggressive driving? Steep hill? Once the chain locked up the guibo’s took the stress and failed is my guess.
