Kata Godan from Goshin jutsu Karate - Done Blindfolded

  • Skip to 2:57 to start watching the kata. The first three minutes is me blindfolding myself, meditation, and then getting oriented in the space.
    This is a video of me working on blindfolded kata. The purpose of this exercise is to hone your focus and awareness by removing the sight. I have to "Stay In The Fight" while paying attention to sounds in the room, what I feel on the soles of my feet, and my internal compass in an effort to maintain my orientation. My goal was to begin and end in the same position. It doesn't matter so much where the kata ends. I have to try and "feel" where I am in the room and get back to my starting point at the end of the form. I begin with a short meditation and breathing exercise in a effort to center myself and open up my senses. Also, I must work on maintaining balance without relying on my view of the horizon.
