    I’ve seen crack repairs but what I’m dealing with is unleveled floor from many cracks and sag. This was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for adding this repair to my tool box for our clients. 🛠️

    You've just saved me SO MUCH MONEY!!! I live in a mobile home and my tub is cracked right at the bottom corner. I've used JB Weld and it's worked in the past, but that just gave out and my daughter is only getting bigger and heavier, so this is the method I'll go with. Thanks!

    Thanks for putting the video together!! After fixing my tub according to these three layers, Fiber/Resin, Bondo Glass, Bondo Filler, I think I have a few more months to plan and reno my whole bathroom. Last time I used fiberglass was to repair the spare tire hold on an 89 Chevy Caprice Wagon, long ago.

    Thanks for this, just used this video to save myself a crap ton of money right before Christmas. It’s so hard to get anyone to come out and so home repair where I live and they WAY overcharge when they do. Having now done this repair, I can smell this video when I watch it 😆.

      Same here. You'd think I lived in Siberia when I tell handymen I am 20 miles from town. The ones that do show up, tack on trip fees on top of overcharging. Of course, when they see I am an old widow living alone, they think my back is against is against the wall and charge MORE. I was charged $250 to put ONE shingle (that I supplied) on my roof. I can't get up or down a ladder so I had no choice but to pay it. I told asked him if he just wanted me to sign over my social security check to him.

    One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is clean up after sanding. I’m through the process of repair and sanding I’ve used a vacuum and tack cloth to get as much dust and particles as I can and it’s time to spray but I’m wondering if I should be going over the surface with something like TSP before painting. Since I don’t expect a response in time for my project maybe for other people watching. Im going to just go ahead and spray it and hope the paint adheres. Great videos and helpful cost savings

      use a teeshirt cloth soaked in acetone or medical alcohol for plastic or fiberglass prep work, before the fix, then before the primer and paint, dont paint like the video demonstration, go from side to side barely pressing paint sprayer as many times as it takes, or the primer & paint will run like water, after painting use heat gun on low to bake the finish

    I did this once with great success in a bottom color that was different from the original. The only thing I did different was at the wall tape off line I added different width striping. 3/4" to 1/2" to 1/4"" and finished with 1/8". It ended up looking great. This was back long ago before current two stage paint systems! Using 2 stage systems will be so much easier since cure time and clear over time is so much faster. Also if there is any mistakes it can be sanded / corrected very easily and quickly. The final clear over will greatly reduce the masked off paint transition line or lines if ya stripe. Buffing and polishing can and is very simple from the new into the original . I have wondered how the floor would turn out if bedliner paint was used as It comes in many colors.

    Thank you for your video. How do you keep the resin from running down from a vertical wall surface. I have a Cracked area on a section of the tub where the wall meets the floor and the crack has moved up the wall of the tub - so I need to keep the long hair glass and resin on it without too much running below - Do you tape off the areas below or let it run and sand/feather it out?
    Very helpful information about the foam spray. Our relatively new tub was spider web cracked and egg-shell thin! It needed support to hold up and two cans expanded nicely overnight! Thanks again.

    I am a tub refinisher. And since they removed the main component in stripper that made it work it takes 6 hours. to strip a tub with a stripper from a tub company. Does the Jasco really work as well as you showed with just one application, or do you have to apply more. The product we use is from Napco.

      Or with shower pans the styrofoam gives way and prone to cracking the fiberglass so this method of repair I have used for my shower. The quote from three different places was $12k up to $18k. No thanks. I will use the repair method exactly as pictured here. If fiberglass repair is good enough for a boat it’s good enough for a shower pan.

    What if I skip the primer and just go straight to the tub&tile spraypaint. Will it still hold up?

      Do you think he would bother with the primer if it wasn't needed?

    New subscriber here. Omg this is great and what I’ve been wanting to do Sir. I have what looks like a steel tub with has a oval recessed area abt 10in x 20in and 1/4 indeep at center. It’s not cracked but causes standing water in Tub. Can I skip any steps eg skip the drilling and expansion foam?

    quick question.. is the Bondo glass and putty a MUST? I filled in the hole with foam and did the resin with fiberglass cloth. about 3 layers. it is solid. will this hold up as is? i don't expect to last a lifetime but maybe 3 or so years before remodeling. plz lmk. appreciate you

      I like the bondo glass as extra reinforcement because it has short strand hairs. The bondo glass doesn’t sand smooth so that’s why I skim it with smooth putty

    What is in that white tube that looks like red toothpaste that you are mixing with that black Bondo glass?

    • @DPTubs
      @DPTubs  5 місяців тому

      It’s the hardener or catalyst for the Bondo

    When you spray a small area do you sand and buff it around the edges where it meets the old gel coat?

    • @DPTubs
      @DPTubs  3 роки тому

      yes you can come back after it dries to do so.

    If the hole is really high on the wall, say about shoulder level. Could you skip the foam process?

      Yes I have another video of a hole on wall or side of tub!

      It is the cream hardener that comes with the bondo glass

    Excellent video. My fiberglas tub is cracked similar to the one in your video, about 12" long and at the edges of the crack the fiberglas is curled upwards i.e. not level. Just drill holes, pump in foam and sand it flat, or do I first need to find a way to glue edges down?

    I moved into my present house 5 months ago. Unfortunately I didn’t notice the small crack in the bottom corner of my tub until it was visible at 1”. Fortunately, I have a 2nd bathroom so am avoiding using the cracked tub. Because it was so small, I looked through YT. I am not DIYer, nor do I have tools I would need to make repairs. But I am a person who believes in making repairs before they get too big or too expensive.
    How much should I expect to pay to have the repair done? I live in a rural area, but I know that their are small repair shops around here. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you for your video!

    Did you redo this video with music? I have had it saved to fix my tub and you definitely talked and gave instructions. Can I still get to that video instead of the music overlay?

      I have other videos you can check out with talk voice over. Some I do with music and others I do with voice over. It all depends on my schedule and how much time I have.

    Hi, I have a question. So, just to confirm, you used both the Bondo Glass and the high bond filler?

    • @DPTubs
      @DPTubs  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes. Bondo glass does not sand out smooth so I use the high bond filler to smoothen out

    • @DPTubs

      I would use a shop vac to try and suck out moisture and then let it air dry out.
