Mikey Powell was a kind human, too. With my nephew on the field at Gtown, long after a game. He was so kind, got down on one knee to talk to the little guy. Asked my nephew about this n that. Super guy. Thanks Mike Powell 25 years later.
How can you leave Kyle Harrison out of this list???? He literally ran the entire field from face off (there was not get off for him), to offense and defense.
Lyle is a great player, but he has not changed the game anywhere near as much as the Gait brothers (and Marachuk) did. Bobby Orr is the greatest defenseman of all time because he changed the game. Paul Coffee is also a great defenseman, but Orr really did the things Coffee did first. Thompson is like Pau Coffee to Gary Gait's Bobby Orr.
Gary Gait, John Grant Jr., Mikey Powell, Lyle Thompson, Jim Brown (although I never saw him play, seeing what he did on the football field, I can not imagine it was possible to stop him on a lacrosse field).
Great Video. As a man that played against ex NHLs guys like Bellows, Nieuendyk, Robatile . I watched Willie Plett who still holds many records or Adam Oates. I also had the privilege as a peewee to be Bob Proberts teammates. In 1974 or 75 this kid from Brantford came to Windsor,Ontario, he played a lacrosse game and then flew him out to Ste.Saint Marie to pitch in a baseball game. My father asked who is this kid that is so special. His name was Wayne Gretzky. Many special people played LAX.. You made a great video for great discussion. Having watched the Gates Brothers play full time, I've always wondered what some of the greatest athletes would of done playing lacrosse full time. Jim Brown blows my mind away.
When I was in the U.S. Military Liaison Mission I served with an Air Force captain that went to Cornell. He actually played against Jim Brown in lacrosse, and his memory of that game was "I spent more time looking up at the sky than playing lacrosse Jim hit me so hard! "
For me it is Gait or Jr. but I tend to pick Jr. I saw him at the 2010 World cup. In the final the US longpoles took turns in face guarding him and he still scored the most goals and the most assists.
Fantastic list. For me Gary Gait is the greatest. I always wonder how legendary Mike Powell could have been if he played lacrosse for many years. Rabil's contribution off the field is legendary now and moving forward....
John Grant Junior for me. He dominated both field lacrosse and box lacrosse. I feel like to be the GOAT you have to have dominated in both he did that and for an extended length of time. He blended skill with size and lacrosse IQ like no one else.
lets just agree that upstate NY/canada is where the most talent comes from. its a part of life there. i grew up around Syracuse and was introduced to the game at a very young age.
I've watched JG Jr. indoors and box - he was dominant in both. Hard not to consider him the GOAT especially considering it was obvious what he wanted to do, and defenses couldn't stop him.
Casey all day… 1st team attack and midfield, played pro into his 40’s…. Made the all star team his final season…. But I can’t argue with the JG jr. crowd, I get it.
I've seen mike powell play (Music) and talked to him after the show got him to sign a poster and tried to talk to him about lax as that's the main reason I wanted to see him and it seemed to me like he didn't really want to talk about lacrosse and mostly about the show but that's just what I noticed
Loyola was on the map for along time before spencer, you must be young, They plaid in the national championship in 1990, Prolay been in the top ten almost every since.
I would have to agree on grant the guy was an absolute magician with a stick I saw him score some of the greatest goals I've ever seen with his back to the goal from between his legs just an unbelievable player.
John grant jr is the goat, he dominated at every style of the game getting indoor and outdoor championships with both nation and club. No one else is close to him
This appears to be a NCAA GOAT list. Frank Urso , Doug Radebaugh and Mike French at least deserved a mention. On an international level , how about John Tavares, John Grant, John Butkiewicz, Pete Cann, Brian Griffen and Micheal Raggatt. Most of these players didn’t see plastic sticks until 1974!
What about Tillman Johnson? His performance in the University of Virginia championship in 2003 was probably one of the greatest lacrosse performances in history.
A very good video overall. Great picks with the exception of leaving off Eamon McEneaney. You make a good case for John Grant. To me it’s probably Gary Gait. He was such a prolific scorer and played midfield. His defensive play was really good too. I don’t like Rabil. I think he ruined the sport with the PLL. I hate the small field and shot clock. Bring back the slow clear, use of the box, stall warnings etc. just my rant… Thank you
There is a right answer to this question. Basically, the players over 50 years of age who played the game with a WOODEN STICK. If you want to choose a GOAT, it has to be a player who played BOTH offense and defense. Field lacrosse and any current box lacrosse have players playing either offense or defense. You can't choose the GOAT player based solely on offensive skills or defensive skills. If I had to choose between a John Grant Jr. and a Paul Evans, I'd take Paul Evans hands down. Paul Evans ran back to play defence. John Grant Jr, ran off. Paul Evans whacked and hacked with a wooden stick. Today's sticks just break with the slightest cross-check. This list is really lame. Its probably safe to assume that most people commenting here have never seen a game prior to 1990.
well if we go back to the 70s, nobody messed with paul suggate. but if the nhl was so afraid of losing players to the nll, what rick dudley did in a half season with the rochester griffins might still be the best season ever.
Mike Powell is my GOAT, and Rabil did more for the sport than anybody else. You could argue that Lyle Thompson is the GOAT given his stats, and also that he was not surrounded by the deepest bench of top talent, whereas some of the others mentioned here were. When Mikey won his last title (I believe it was), he only had 1 goal and 5 assists which for him was a bad game, but he said (paraphrased) "I didn't have the best game, but I'm lucky to be on the best team in the country." U Albany wasn't a perennial tournament team and didn't have the recruiting/draw of other schools for top players in the country. So, while Mikey is my GOAT given my age, I think Lyle could be.
ten months late to the party but even before his recent 3rd MVP win, Tom Schieber should've deserved some consideration. I struggle to think that Brown or Spencer should be on the last as they did not play pro. The same case could be make for Mike Powell as he barely had a pro career. They are all in the discussion for greatest college player ever. Players like John Grant Jr, Brendan Mundolf, or Stephen Berger have shown that going to a top school means nothing once you hit the pros. Grant is definitely the toughest guard one on one in the history of the game. He's got too many releases and is overwhelmingly strong. CRazy high peak in the MLL around 07-08. Rabil's numbers in the pros are astounding but he was one of the only players at the time who was able to commit to the game in the way he did. Of course his numbers are crazy. If others in his prime era like Ned Crotty, Matt Danowski or Kyle Dixon were able to just focus on lacrosse they likely would've put up similar numbers. No Kyle Harrison? The last true do it all midfielder? You could argue that Trevor Baptiste or Greg Gurenlian made more of an impact on their team's season when they won their pro MVPs. There is a voice in my head saying that you can't call them the best ever when they play specialized positions but to make that argument essentially cuts out goalies as well.
Must really hate Maryland because you seem to have amnesia aboutFrank Urso. 4x First team All Smerican . 4x finals For national championship with 2 X victory.
Gary Gait is the GOAT! He changed the game. John Grant Jr. is #2. They dominated both on the field and in the box. Guys like Mikey Powell and Paul Rabil didn't play box. To be considered the GOAT, I think you have to dominate in college, the pros (both field and box) and international lacrosse to be the GOAT. Talk to me about Lyle Thompson after he retires. You might be able to make an argument then.
rabil played in the nll for a number of seasons. when chris hall coached him and defined his role, a serious nll baller - scoops, transition & goals. comes to philly with a piss poor coaching staff and he too often found himself stuck along the boards. you can't alley dodge indoors.
I think it’s between Lyle Thompson & John Grant Jr. cuz none of the other players on the list besides Gary Gait had the creativity and stick skills that those 2 have.
You beat me to it. He didn’t play as a freshman in those days (weren’t allowed) and his stats still hold up to guys that played all four years. If you’re gonna put Jim Brown on this list Eamon must be on it too.
Gonna be a hot take but senior year jared bernhardt was beyond unguardable. More athletic than everyone listed. Damn shame that him and Pat are playing other pro sports.
imagine being the goat of lacrosse :D looks oddly fun and extremely stupid at the same time. Thinking it through i dont actually see how it can possibly be fun in the long run. I have never tried it though. dont hate the player D:
So you only care about goals? Brodie Merrill only makes the mentions. Zero goalies, no Fogos and no Kyle Harrison but including Mikey and Spencer who both turned away from lax is a crime.... i say this thinking C Powell/John Grant Jr is the correct decision, but the GOAT isn't just a goals scored stat war.

bro anyone can do that
that's what i'm saying he was a legitimate iron man
I say it is Lyle because he embraces the game unlike other players which makes his techniques unique
i mean just cause he takes the game in unlike any other doesn’t mean he’s the best
@@realskon thank you 🙏
Lyle has to be the goat. He has literally changed the game around his style and keeps changing it every single game.
Lyle has changed the game the most but is not the goat
His stick skills are garbage compared to gait..not even close.
It is absolutely criminal that John Tavares isn't on this list!
Let's just say is that he's mostly focusing on you field lacrosse not box Lacrosse but Johnny Tavares should have been at least on this list.
this list is for kiddy lacrosse not real men lacrosse
As a leafs fan, this confused me.
@@Kiwi-lz6yr
Not hard to confuse a Leafs fan!😂
GO HABS GO!
As an islanders fan, it hurts to see that name even if it’s not the same person
Gary Gait, John Grant Jr., Mikey Powell, Lyle Thompson, Jim Brown (although I never saw him play, seeing what he did on the football field, I can not imagine it was possible to stop him on a lacrosse field).
Gary Gait, Grant Jr, John Tavares for me
not to nitpick but the Cuse player on 4:19 isn't Mikey Powell it's Jojo Marasco

easy air hockey vs hard on the ground ice hockey? im so confused, so people play this game full time and make millions?
When I was in the U.S. Military Liaison Mission I served with an Air Force captain that went to Cornell. He actually played against Jim Brown in lacrosse, and his memory of that game was "I spent more time looking up at the sky than playing lacrosse Jim hit me so hard! "
I’ve been playing for a month now so Im a beginner lax player and your channel is so fun to watch its insane how helpful these vids are!
ìs it fun or does it get old fast?
For me it is Gait or Jr. but I tend to pick Jr.
I saw him at the 2010 World cup. In the final the US longpoles took turns in face guarding him and he still scored the most goals and the most assists.
I just wanted to see Mikey Powell highlights
Took the words out of my mouth John grant was just so dominant for all his pro career. He still prob can sling it till this day
It would be awesome if you could make a video with the best ever at each position. Great videos btw!
Notice the SU lacrosse legacy? Also, I've met guys who played with Jim Brown. They STILL say he was the greatest.
Gotta be- Lyle Thompson. Plays the game like the Creator intended.
We have to mention the defensive side too,Kyle Hartzell,Brian Spallina,Brodie Merril,Mike Manley. The list goes on
very lucky to have a signed helmet and head from paul sitting next to me as i write this
Most Skilled...Tom Maracek. Player I would build a Team Around... Matt Abbott.
hollywood had the best OTS/BTB becuase it had it all - speed, power, spin, & surprise.

You should rank top 10 collegiate programs since it became an official NCAA sport in 1971
I would like to see a defender or goalie on the list. What about Tucker Durkin or Trever Baptiste.
Amen
I agree with Junior being the goat. Brodie Merrill deserves to be on this list as well.

Jim Brown is the greatest LaCrosse player of all time...by far
Here Here! Absolutely.
Where is John Tavares?
Ughhh... I was at the game where Grant Junior dismantled my lizards in that video. He was unstoppable.
There is a photo of Jim Brown at SU, running down the field with wooden sticks shattering against his legs
Common you can’t make me pick between Paul Rabil and Thompson. I love them both
Jim Brown? Was amazing.
315 on top
should do a top 5 club lacrosse teams, ion know seems like a fun video
Got to add in Doug Knight. He’s kind of the link between the Gait’s in the 80s/early 90s and the Powell’s in the late 90s/early 00s
Watson, Knight and McKnight.... greatest attack ever
My answer for now is Mike Powell - he just dominated. That said in 5-10 years it will most likely be switched to Brennan O'Neill
how many of the mikey powell highlights were mikey powell?
I haven't seen the video yet, but I'm taking a guess. Rabil, Gait, Thompson, Powell, Harrison, Rambo
I love this youtube channel plz keep uploading. You should watch live lax games on youtube channel.
