My wife washed the key with soap after coming home from the market because of covid19 corona virus. After few days when i tried to open the car door it stopped working. With your video I opened it and give it good clean and used the hair dryer to dry the moist, it came back to the life. Thank you👍
Thank you for a video without a bunch of babblegab! Short, sweet, straight to the point and very easy to follow.
Your fob can take one of 2 batteries. Make sure to check before you buy.

Chris Notap can I use this battery for Toyota Camry 2008 remote key?
Why would you need 5?
The old battery you take out will have the number and new batteries are available for just $5.00 each in most retail stores. Just in case you don't have yourself an Amazon account. ^-^
PS - HUGE thanks on this video!!!!
OMG! You saved me moolah! The car dealership wanted to charge me $150 just to replace a battery. Thank you!
This! Thank you sir. This is exactly what a person needs in a how-to video: little to no preamble, step by step, a quick "watch-out" segment. And done. Strong work!
Thanks for that great feedback!
Double check the battery. Had a key that looked the same but took a CR2016 battery. Using a CR2025 battery would fit but would cause the buttons to push up against the case (and set off the alarm).
Thank you so much! I went around for at least a year thinking I needed another key fob. I didn’t know the battery could be changed! This was super helpful. I’m straight now!
I knew if I came to UA-cam someone would have a video. Thank you, I opened my fob up and thought (what the heck, there isn't a battery?). Didn't know I had to open a second compartment. I appreciate your video.
Make sure to check the battery before going out to buy one. Many commenters have said it is either a CR2025 or a CR2016 battery. In some cases people have replaced the CR2016 with a CR2015 without a problem and is totally fine. It is the same voltage but is just a bit thicker battery and is more powerful. The first 2 numbers of CR2016 means the battery is 20mm in diameter. The second 2 numbers is the thickness of the battery which means it is 1.6mm thick. This means that the CR2025 is the same diameter but is thicker by .9mm which is very little. The CR2025 battery has 165 mAh of power whereas the CR2016 has only 90 mAh of power. If you use a CR2025, it will last much longer but some people have said that the CR2025 is too tight and the buttons don't work as well. Like I say, check before buying to see what you have. Hope this helps to clarify the confusion. Either one might work.
These little videos are life savers ⭐️
This is a great video. I watch it every time I need to change my battery to review the steps.
Glad it was helpful!
Batteries vary from year to year. Check the battery number once you get it apart! My 2015 Yaris fob uses a 2016 battery, not the one referenced in the video. Chris's instructions are otherwise on the money and very helpful. Plus his video quality and diction are much better than some the other videos I checked out.
Thanks! Just changed it out the fob this afternoon. Easy-peasy! Used the CR2016 battery.
We have a 2009 Corolla. 227,000 miles on it. 200,000 miles more to go!
Thank you! I followed your step by step instructions, and IT WORKED!
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I’ve been going nuts trying to operate without my remote and you fixed that so THANK YOU!!!
My 2008 scion tc uses a cr2016 lithium battery. I watched your video, went to Walmart, replaced my dead key battery and now I can open the car doors remotely again. From the start of the video to Walmart to replacement, it took about 30 minutes. Thank you. $4.00 for two batteries. Will replace my other key battery also, which is dead.
opened my key fob in Walmart today and all the pieces went flying out! sitting in parking lot now learning how to do it right! Thanks
Thank you for loading this. Such a relief to know I can fix my remote so easily. I did buy the CR2025 believing that no matter if its a CR2016 (which is thinner and what came out of my remote) it will be a stronger battery which I believed would be great for a longer range and longer lasting. Only problem was it was a tight squeeze to get it all shut then my buttons were jammed and couldn't be pressed. I guess there was no room to move with the thicker battery. Oh well no biggie - now I know how to replace. Appreciate your clear instructions . Annie NZ
Chris thank you SO much for this tutorial. Toyota should be ashamed for this antiquated swap. But thanks to you I got it done!
I owe you SO MUCH!!! Thanks a million! My key went through the wash by mistake, but I found this and followed the instructions (within 2 hours of washing). Took everything apart & dried. Somehow water had not got to the circuit board, though it got everywhere else. Cleaned (Qtips & microbrushes helped), put back together. Now the key works fine.
FYI, a dime or penny is what twist apart spots are designed for. AND in taking apart the inter box with 5 'clips'... the last 'clip' that you spent so much time fighting... next to it, is another 'insert coin' and twist spot... one twist and done. but TY for posting, more than I ever did on YT.
Please explain, I have a difficult time taking off the clear plastic. What did you use and how did you do it? thank you.
Can’t go wrong with tutorial like this👍🏾
You just saved me a ton of money ! It worked. I needed to know how to take the Fob apart "carefully" to get to the battery. You are spot on. Thank you so very much for this most helpful and resourceful video.
Check your battery before buying. It could be either cr2016 or a cr2025. (If it says dr2016 or dr2025, that's just duracells way of thinking you need their battery! The D stands for "Duracell")

Aaaagh, I wish I had read this note before I started the process! I'm sure I'll find something that uses a cr2025. Thanks for the video. One tip: I was paranoid about having the buttons fly off and become cat toys, so I put a piece of tape across all the buttons before I opened the key fob. The keys all stayed in place.
Thank you, bud, it seems easygoing but not evidently. You've help me so much!
Glad to help!
Chris, great and concise explanation. Glad you included the rubber membrane part as mine fell off taking the remote apart.
Thanks for the video! That was a lot easier than I expected.
Exactly what i was looking for. Thanks for making the video!
Dude, thanks! Just did what you said, found out a cr2016 battery is what I need, went to the store and got that cr2016, put it in and it's like brand new. Thank you!
Glad it worked!
so very very helpful. thank you to people like you that have made our lives so much easy and Thanks also to UA-cam for making this accessible to all.
Very helpful! I put masking tape over the buttons to keep them from falling out.
This video was a HUGE help to me, thank you so much.
Thanks, Chris, for your tutorial. Your description was spot on.
One little comment I'd like to add is to remind your viewers that the new battery could have a sticker that would prevent the remote from working once it is replaced.
Just a head's up. 😁
Please explain because this could be the reason why both my two new batteries did not work. Where exactly is the sticker.
Nice concise tutorial. Just repaired mine with your help.
Thank you so much!!! Very helpful and simple video! Much appreciated!
Thank you for the expertise. Very helpful.
Excellent instructions delivered beautifully. Thank you.
CR2016 was the right battery for my 2017 4Runner! Thanks!
Hi Sarah tee hee 😜
Thank you so much for this! First day for my kids at daycare and going back to work from maternity leave tomorrow so really bad timing for the battery to stop working. So pleased I was able to sort this out myself without having to go to a locksmith!
That’s great!
Grad tutorial. I was able to change my battery. Your tutorial made my whole week. Thank you for the video.
Thank you, I needed that tutorial!!!
Thank you! Just what I needed!
keep posting videos, I would love to see more of this
Good job, clear and easy explanation. Thank you
Thanks so much for this! My key started working remotely only about half the time and I was hoping it was the battery and not something with the car. Thankfully it seems to have been the battery *knock on wood* and your video was such a big help!
You're welcome!
Thank you for this video! You've saved me a bunch of money!
I’ve been trying to figure out how to change a battery thank you so much for your video
Thank you. Made it an easy process for me.
Excellent, clear instruction. Thank you VERY MUCH!!

2010 Camry has CR2016. Thanks for the video!
Others have mentioned the same.
thank you so much! I was able to do this all my own and fixed my dead fob :)
Great step-by-step instructions. I could not believe how many tabs held the case together.
Thanks for the hepful video. I bet the 128 people who dislike this video are the car dealerships who try to rip people off.
Excellent presentation, explicit and exemplary clarification followed with extra details. Two thumbs up!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this video just changed both of mine. CR2016
Awesome. Found exactly what am looking.Thanks.
Nice video. Very Clear, thanks.
This helped a lot thanks!
You helped me save time and money, much appreciated! Could not have done it without your help. FWIW my 2009 Carolla key battery was a CR2016....
Great tutorial. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. Saved me $$$.
good job!!! thank you for the tips!!
Very helpful when I needed it. Thank you. Just make sure you check what battery you need. Mine needed 2016.
same i’m hella mad😂 spent 10$ on the wrong battery
Mine too.
Nice video, clear light and good focus from lens, many thanks!
Note: Toyota Yaris 2008 Hatchback uses CR 2016 Lithium cell battery. Buy at Target or Amazon. Much easier to pry open with one end snap with screwdriver, does not have all those little tabs.
Thanks!! Very useful post!
Seems easy enough thanks man
This video was great except don’t buy the CR2025 battery without checking. Mine ended up being a CR2016 for a 2019 4Runner.
Thanks, worked perfectly!
Thanks man, it helped ☺
Great video. Really helped.
great job mate!
Thanks, you helped me!
Thank you so much. This really helped!
youre awesome, thanks a lot, just made my life so much easier
Thank you, that was so helpful.
Very helpful, thank you!
Chris: thank you for making this video. It was a tremendous help.
A few minor changes were necessary for the key on my 2010 Camry SE. The factory battery was a 2016 (as opposed to the 2025 you mentioned). Also, rather than slide in and out of an opening on the end, the battery on my key is held in place by two arms of a little leaf spring; the battery is pushed against this spring when removed or inserted, in order to clear the little clips on the opposite side of the battery.
But, as I said, you pointed me in the right direction, and it was a major help. Thanks.
Your video was so helpful. Thank you so much(:
Perfect! Thank you.
U saved my life.🔧 thank u
Thank you, I really appreciate your video 👍👍
Im using a 2008 Camry (Asian model). Existing battery is CR2016, I used Energizer CR2025. Works great!
