Holy crap! Out of all of the classes & tutorials I have taken, no one has given such a tip based explanation of filing. Your tips will help to improve my filing & finishing skills.
It is so obvious that your prior profession was in teaching! Your videos are informative as well as so interesting watch. 👍 Keep 'em coming teach!

Thanks Susan! That was one of my earlier videos, so apologies for rough editing:). Glad that you liked it, and thank you for saying I’m a good teacher!

Eeeks! Air filing!!! Lol! 😍😅 Chad, is your bastard file a jeweler's file with a safe edge or a basic metal file? I love how you explained the use of a bigger file that's helpful for students. I see so many makers using needle files to attempt straight lines on larger areas. I always use the biggest file I can for a given job. And seldom use the flat side of a ring file - useless on the follow-through to have a file get smaller at the tip. 😅 As usual, excellent teaching. I have ZERO hesitation to recommend your videos. 👏👏👏

Guilty as charged:). It’s a standard single cut bastard file from the hardware store. Thank you for your lovely comments Flying Chef!

Perhaps it should be noted that "air filing" is less precise and efficient than supporting the work against the bench pin.

Many people find it so, so if that works best for you, that’s how you should do it. I find that different situations call for different methods. Thank you for watching, and thank you for the comment!

And then there’s always the miter Jig vise, which will save you 55 heartaches and 55 minutes of filing.

That’s all you use??? How do you file solder off the inside of your rings. I’m sad you teach us well but you only show part of jewelry making. No Scribing, Sanding, filing , polishing. Please take the time to move your camera to show the other parts. Not just fabricating. I have not seen any sanding. Polishing. And dremel or flex shaft work. Would love to see the other half of making. Sorry to complain.

Thanks for the comment Konakai! I consolidated those things into separate videos so I didn't have to keep showing the same thing over and over. I don't ever sand anything. here is the pre-polishing video: ua-cam.com/video/OpllnTnspTM/v-deo.html and here is the polishing video: ua-cam.com/video/IvSeAi_D9T0/v-deo.html. The polishing video is one of my earlier videos so the editing quality may be a little rough. Hope this helps!
