- S09E11 - Hey guys, in this one we're finally taking a look at the brand new Fourteenth Doctors Sonic Screwdriver from Character Options!
This limited-edition version boasts an exclusive ‘electro plated’ finish, making it look like real polished steel and brass. It also boasts two modes of operation, Open and Closed, as well as five brand new and totally unique sound and light effects, with each accessed by a different button sequence. The Sonic comes beautifully presented in Regeneration style packaging.

Doctor Who?
Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, many actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
A series of special episodes will air to celebrate the programme's 60th anniversary. The episodes were written by Russell T Davies, and will be broadcast on BBC One in November 2023, preceding the following fourteenth series. David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials.
The three specials were directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley and Chanya Button respectively. Filming moved from Roath Lock Studios to Wolf Studios once Bad Wolf became a co-producer of the series; filming commenced in May 2022, and was complete
David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials. Yasmin Finney joined the cast for the anniversary, to portray a character named Rose. Bernard Cribbins, Jacqueline King and Karl Collins are also set to return as Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble and Shaun Temple, respectively.
The Fourteenth Doctor is the current incarnation of the Doctor, the fictional protagonist of the BBC science fiction television programme, Doctor Who. The Fourteenth Doctor is portrayed by Scottish actor, David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor.
Within the series narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in their TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes.
I really hope they remake 9/10's with the button-slider feature. It's about damn time!
I completely agree! They've managed to do it with this Sonic Screwdriver, and a rerelease of the 9th & 10th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver with the button on the slider would be a dream come true for many Doctor Who fans. The button on the slider would add an extra touch of authenticity and functionality to the toy. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that Character Options will make it a reality! 🤞😉
I really hope they do this since they have finally figured out how to put the button on the slider itself. A full on replica of the 9th/10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver would be absolutely FANTASTIC.
That's what led me down the route of better replicas in the first place. Thought it was silly how limited they had made the toy so I wound up researching and getting a screen accurate replica that naturally included a button in the slider and I never looked back.

This design is a perfect combination of the first 3 modern sonics. When I saw this design I instantly recognized it as an iconic design.
Would be nice to get more accurate toys in the future, especially with so few visible screws. The 12th and 14th are absolutely incredible in comparison to every other sonic screwdriver toy, they're almost perfectly accurate to the props just in plastic. They probably won't but I just hope that character start making them more accurate. Hell, a 10th with printed crackle and a slider button would be amazing, even if they keep its size and emitter head inaccuracies those two tweaks would make it fantastic. The 12th and 14th are fantastic toys, never managed to get a 12th but I bloody hope they bring it back even if they cut features like some re releases of other sonics

In my opinion 12 and 14's sonics are my favorite mainly because they both change different colors.

Great review! It's a real shame that the tip of the emitter doesn't really light up though. Need to put another LED up there or something.

I completely agree with you there! The new Sonic Screwdriver is indeed impressive, but it's disappointing that the tip of the emitter doesn't light up that much. Adding another LED would have definitely enhanced it overall. 🤘
I do hope the retail version retains the secret features.
It wont unfortunately, it also wont have the metallic chrome added to it aswell. But it'll have the 5 normal sound effects and a blue emitter.

@@righteousknighteous Yeah it would've been nice, but I believe they were only for the Online Exclusive version. The price ranges from 15-25 GBP (from what i've heard)

Got one today and it’s got a strange thing with it, after seeing many comments say the electronics can be faulty, how mine works is that the button does not work inside to change colour, but if I slightly twist the bottom of the screwdriver it will change between blue and green but sometimes even holding it can change it so i don’t think it’s intentional

Yes I see what you mean, iI think the standard version does appear more accurate to the original props. The attention to detail on both versions is fantastic. I guess it ultimately just depends on personal preference. 😄

Thank you for your concern! So far, my electronics have been working fine. However, I've heard about the issues others are facing with their devices. It's unfortunate that some are having issues already. Hopefully, mine will continue to work smoothly, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for any potential problems.🤘

Just bought one second hand for about 30 ish, not too bad especially when so many people are reselling them for stupid amounts of money, especially for a toy. I'm just hoping the guy's legit, I have heard horror stories of people buying the online exclusive second hand from resellers and being given the retail version.
I've had the retail version since release and it's gorgeous, but having one with the secret features and neat metalic finish will be so much nicer. My brother isn't much of a sonic screwdriver coolector but any time I replace one of mine with a better one he always asks for the hand-me-downs, so we're both gonna be super happy when my new beauty arrives mid next week 😊
I totally think Ncuti deserves his own, but knowing this was literally a ONE TIME thing makes me think they won’t make more… and that sucks.
Looks like most of them have ended up on eBay, you can find the Limited Edition version for around £45 at the moment. But yeah they’ve done 2 batches of these already and it doesn’t look like they’ll be doing anymore anytime soon.

Anybody else notice how the emitter of the sonic kinda resembles a Dalek gunstick...?
Yes definitely, it was intentional by the designer Michael Kesteren. The cage around the central sonic cluster resembles a Dalek's gunstick, and it was meant as a reference to Rusty the Dalek's "You would make a good Dalek" line 😎

Mine stopped working after about a few days. Problem was, since all the electronics are packed in the middle, pressing the button whilst extending the claws either moved the electronics or broke them completely. But yeah. Big disappointment. Really liked this sonic.

They might be able to offer assistance or provide a replacement? Hopefully, they can help resolve the issue and get your Sonic Screwdriver working again. If not the Retail version is currently available for pre-order and more of these ones will be available at some point so hopefully you'll have a chance to snag yourself another one! 😎

This initial batch of the Limited Edition Fourteenth Doctor Sonic Screwdriver sold out in less than 8 hours meaning most fans were unable to order. But Character Options have announced that further stock has been ordered and the manufacturing process has already started!
It will take a few months for the stock to arrive, but Character will keep all of us updated on the situation via its social media channels.
If you can't wait, a standard version will be released very soon via selected retailers.

The Rubbertoe Replica looks absolutely awesome, it's a shame that it'll take a while to arrive but the wait is always worth it in the end. Well apparently originally they were gonna keep this one for Fifteen but Russell T Davies changed his mind last minute and wanted a new one that looked nothing like a screwdriver 😂
