I am not sure if you heard of this song, here is a link with the lyrics on the screen.> ua-cam.com/video/kG4my7Oy1FU/v-deo.html < The band is from England and the song came out in 1982. It's a ballad BTW.
The world can be a better place if more teenagers , young adults start listening to the Hawkwind back catalogue from between 1970 and say 1984....They carried the true spirit of the 'counter culture' with them through many decades and helped inspire both Punk, then the original rave music scene. They are one of the purest bands ever in that they were never interested in money nor fame. They were instead there to try and wake people up to an impending 'corporate dystopia' and to also inspire people to follow alternative, wholesome lifestyles.
I have a signed vinyl of Silver Machine! Dave Brock the founder/guitarist signed and Nik Turner the saxophonist/co - founder also signed! R.I.P. Nik Turner R.I.P. Dik Mik R.I.P. Robert Calvert R.I.P. Lemmy Kilmister - C 08 - 07 - 2023
Still a great song, I got into it after watching this on TOTP, I'm now 88 and still listen to my CDs. Seen them at the Academy Manchester this year. Great Show. And good to see a young person getting the vibe too.
Nice to see Stacia looking so good. What memories, if I could just remember them. Thanks for this young lady, you have made an old acid casualty very happy.
Been a Hawkwind fan for awhile. Saw them in the 90s (without Lemmy at that point), but it was still one of the more memorable concerts that I ever attended.
I've seen them live 3 times, really love this band. Also saw Stacia live with them, unfortunately this video was made for tv so she had to keep her clothes on, usually she does not, it was a sight for sore eyes!
Nice to see the youth getting into Hawkwind. I tell people that they're the best band they've never heard. Have you heard Assault and Battery/Golden Void yet?
Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations. Saw them in the early 70s, they had an exotic dancer on stage with them at that time. Hawkwind have very rarely appeared on television, but the success of the single necessitated an appearance on the BBC chart show Top of the Pops. However, the group felt ill at ease at the prospect of miming a performance in front of a studio audience who didn't represent their following, so a compromise was reached with the BBC recording the band performing live at Dunstable Civic Hall on 7 July 1972, this clip being shown with the single version dubbed over it.
By chance I acquired Hawkwinds "Space Ritual" LP in the mid 70s. I'd never heard any of their music and was shocked at how good it was when I finally got around to playing it. A fan ever since. I really like the short song called 'Upside Down" by them. It's a real surprize.
You found a really good live version, great sound. I've seen Hawkwind 25 times including Stonehenge Free Festival in 1983,84 and 85. They're definitely one of my top 3 bands of all time. The guy with the flute, Nik Turner also left the band and formed another group called Inner City Unit and made one of the best albums of all time--Maximum Effect. Glad you enjoyed it Elok... Now how about some more Hawkwind!!!! 💞
Yup i was at Stonehenge those years aswell,in the late 70's i use to go to Glastonbury and then onto Stonehenge which was better i thought, they were the daze
@@josephwright6154 I met Bob Calvert in Peckham once,he played in my mates cafe Just In Time, who was friends with Nik Turner, also Micky Jones from Man use to play there to,anybody could get up and jam with them
Another classic choice and reaction, Elok. I've seen Hawkwind play on numerous occasions, the first time when I was just 14, with Stacia dancing on stage. Cheers from the UK (again).
What an excellent choice Elok you did when you picked Silver machine, liked your comments. But let me recommend a classic rock band you could listen to that seems to is totally forgotten. And that is Mott the Hoople. They have done an album called Mott the Hoople with some classic songs. Crash street kidds, Marionette, Alice, Through the looking glas, All the young dudes, Roll away the stone. They are also known for a song called Shouting and pointing, which they did after Ian Hunter left the band. The band was: Ian Hunter, lead singer, and guitar. Mick Ronson, lead guitar. Overend Watts, bass, Morgan Fisher, keyboard and on drums Dale Griffin. I would really do appreciate your comments about them. And a song you like they have done
Hello elok. You should have said "hello London josh". I saw hawkwind live. I think lemmy was in the band for a while. I would describe them as hippy rock. What about white lion and the song called when the children cry. Cheers from London josh.
Glad you like real music from the 70's. Although Silver Machine is Hawkind's most successful and well knon song, it by no means their best. Listen to their albums from 1970 to 1982, and of course you must listen to the BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER - Space Ritual.
I told you to check out Motorhead and Hawkwind. Finally!!! Hawkwind was a crazy rock band. As many as 50 different musicians and stage dancers or movers, were a part of it. They were also very influenced by Science Fiction literature. Robert Calvert was the soul of Hawkwind. Died back in 1987.
You should check out some of Rob Calverts solo stuff. Captain Lockheed and the StarFighters and Lucky Leif and the Longships are amazing albums by Calvert. Dave Brock has also done some solo stuff, check out Earth to the Ground. And Nik Turner has done one of the best albums ever with his band Inner City Unit.. Maximum Effect.
If it is just so mind-bending that Motorhead was only a few years away from this. And Hawkwind went on to do some really great progressive records but thankfully we also have Motorhead because Lemmy got kicked out. It's kind of like how If Dave Mustaine hadn't been a putz and his drunken shenanigans had not gotten him kicked out of Metallica... there would have never been a Megadeth. Getting back to this reaction... Well done as usual. I have to admit I'm not really connecting with whatever the hand thing is that you're trying to get off the ground but it is cute if nothing else. All my continued best to you and your musical Journey. M.
A classic indeed. This broke out from the Rock scene and was enjoyed by many of your middle of the road pop fans which go to show how good it was! First time I got t see them was in 1980 and I was so looking forward to hearing this track, unfortunately the band members had changed and they did not attempt to play it the same, I was very disappointed although the rest of the gig was great. 🤘❤✌🇬🇧
@@coyle69 Hi, yeah check them out, they did a lot of good stuff. They changed their band members many times so I guess this why They have so much variety in there music. For me though, Silver Machine will always be my favourite. All the best. 🤘❤✌🇬🇧
This was the only song Lemmy got to sing on for Hawkwind., though he wrote other songs for them (he didnt write this one, I dont think). Shortly after this he was kicked out for getting arrested for having, uh, "non Psychadelic drugs" on him at the Canadian border while on tour with Hawkwind in North America. So he got back to the uk and formed Mororhead.. and the world rejoiced 🤣🤘
I was 17 when this came out it epitomises 1972 perhaps more than any other single, for me Good times and far FAR better music (Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, Led Zeppelin (all Britisah note) than has been seen since
This was their attempt at a radio hit. As great as it was, not really a great example of where they were at at the time. Lord of Light or Brainstorm from Space Ritual Live.
Never heard of this band before. I grew up poor in the 1970's. If the band wasn't on the radio or on the Midnight Special, never heard of them. This band did have a very 70's feel and the lead singer sounded a lot like Gene Simmons (KISS). I respect them not wanting to lip synch to their music on TV. I recently saw Jigsaw lip synching to their biggest (only?) hit of the 70's and it looked downright painful. Also, it annoyed me in the 70's when studios did a fade on songs (at the end) and apparently I wasn't the only one. In my college band, we vowed that if we ever hit it big that we would never do a fade on a song. Ever. Period.
It was interesting watching the video and seeing Moterheads roots. I found the song a little annoying and repetitive myself. Yes there are problems In my life and how did you know I'm drinking coffee?

Elok, I think your space helmet in the preview yesterday was appropriate for this song. I think you did some space traveling with these gentlemen.

Well they didn't do a studio version but this was tweaked in the studio. Bob calvert originally sang it and it was replaced with lemmys voice.
