The Most PRIVATE Search Engine

- Search engines completely revolutionized how we access the web. If you want to find a website, you can type in keywords and search engines will show you a list of websites that match your criteria.
But your searches can reveal a lot of private information about you: your interests, location, medical conditions, political affiliation.
Google has 90% of the market share for searches, and they track everything you do. This gives them a deep, granular insight into who you are, and this is information that they sell.
Search engines are also an effective tool for controlling what information people have access to, and there are many studies that look at how search engines influence the behavior of users by filtering out some search results and prioritizing others.
Luckily there are many ways you can protect your privacy and take back control over your quests for information. Sometimes you sacrifice the quality of your search results by doing this, but other times you’d be surprised at how good alternative results are.
We look at the following privacy-focused browsers:
00:00 - What is a search engine?
5:00 - DuckDuckGo
6:56 - MetaGer
8:00 - SearX
9:15 - Qwant
10:17 - StartPage
11:57 - Mojeek
13:01 - YaCy
14:24 - Brave Search
Always assess your personal risk and threat-level when choosing a search engine, and remember that taking small steps to minimize your internet footprint can go a long way in protecting your privacy!

*Edit:
For those wondering if using a more private browser like Brave helps mitigate surveillance from using Google search. Here is a response from NBTV tech advisor Kieran Mesquita:
"Brave will block some fingerprinting measures and it does block a bunch of endpoints that google uses for telemetry collection but Google has multiple redundant ways to collect this information so the actual impact is pretty negligible when using Google search itself. Most of the telemetry blocking mitigates Google’s ability to track users on 3rd party sites (via adsense and google analytics) and not when using 1st party Google sites/tools."
Hope that helps!

Naomi, how secure is duck duck go?
very awesome....thanx
in other words, we're still F**ked which ever way we bend, if we want privacy online. given most of the independents use search engines which are tracked
1:24 People who search for 'sexy, cute, felines', actually probably should go to jail.
I searched prettiest lady on Earth and you came up. Thank you for all your informative videos.
Hi again Naomi. Good to know the EU has privacy laws where the US doesn't. So now I'll be using these search engines and hopefully, I won't be forcefed crypto adverts all day long. Sweet! Better info on your video compared to similar ones in the US! Sweeter!
This on duck duck didn't age well....
I miss Copernicus for those deep searches..it used a dozen of the most popular engines..great info Naomi
Fantastic video, DDG is my default search engine, I'll have to try these other ones
Thanks, David!!

I would to say, Naomi keeping doing what you're doing. I appreciate you looking out for us.
Thank you, Naomi!
As always, clearly presented and educational topic. Very sharp, knowledgeable, and beautiful. Guaranteed following.
Love the Halt & Catch Fire intro!
Just read your bio using a search engine 🤪 .... OMG! You are such a talented individual! No wonder you sound like you really know what you're talking about. Subscribed! Keep 'em videos coming! 😁
Sidebar: I LOVE the background (room) you’ve set up in this video. The triangle on the wall, the rocket and the tiny TV are my fave

Great comprehensive content, clearly delivered by our host.
I really appreciate you watching!
Big fan! I love this channel! It is definitely helping me with more troubleshooting steps at my job! Thank you so much!!
I love your channel! Naomi. You not only share great information, you also do it in a very entertaining way. Thank you so much for all your videos.
Scroogle was brilliant. Privacy related, but it was a scraper, and worked around algo problems.
Miss naomi you look dashing in that blue dress.
Not only in the blue dress, also out of it. 🌹💙💙🌹🌹🌹
Its that shade of red hair, lovely.
I truly love your content. Spreading awareness for those who want to change. Thanks!
You are so welcome! I'm glad these videos can help!! 🙏🙏
I used to use the Bulletin Board System, which was pre internet. It was high tech at the time.
Thank you. I'm sorry there are only 780 likes and 7,000 views for such an important topic.
I like your videos and look forward to the next deep dive into helping users.
I appreciate you being here!
No matter what you do, someone is always watching. We fought Big Brother in the 80's but failed and let them in by the front door.
Just discovered you channel. And i gotta say i fell in love with your content ❤️
Great content, length was good too for the amount of info cover. DDG is the norm for me now. Google was good years ago but now you have to quote every word and it still suggest off topic junk. I'll try the others.
Next up, covering the shared link that makes it "safe" so they can track your friends...
Just subbed, great video, cheers.
I could watch and listen to you explain anything.
Excellent research and description area notes.
the algorithm brought me here and I’ve subbed. Looking forward to binging all your content
Yay welcome!
Thanks as always for your hard work Naomi

Loved the sample search term @10:15, right above the Microsoft logo; "Bill and Jeffery's sleepover."
Gosh...the content is great but......I love looking at you.! So authentic.
Thank you! For this video. Now , I have homework to do!
Thanks for explaining pure search engines vs meta search engines! 👍
Hope it was helpful!
Excellent content Naomi, I accidentally stumbled across one of your videos yesterday & since watching another two of them, I have subscribed so I don't miss any future information you post.
Keep up the great work in providing important, relevant information to us users so we can at least make a choice while understanding the implication of these businesses such as Google.
Thank you

I really appreciate your kind words! Welcome!
Great video. Thank you!
Another great video thank you!
Oh myyy... I LOVE how she says cached!!! 😍
Many Thanks !!
If I may be so bold...you are scrumptious. GREAT sampling and ever-clear distinctions abound. Thank you, Naomi.
I appreciate you watching!
Creep
Fine video - love the popculture and C-Span illustrations.
As adressed in the video, STARTPAGE is controlled by US marketing research companies like SYSTEM1 - something similar goes for SWISSCOWS while DUCKDUCKGO has aligned with the US State Department in 2022, filtering search results along US 'ideological orthodoxy' (so called 'values', instead of vulgar and transparent *_'interests'_* ).
METAGER is an approach from Germany that goes way back into the 1990s and is privacy-literate, but like France vulnerable to US diplomatic pressure.
In the end, open source, decentralized and highly customized search engines - possibly with some strictly anonymized technology for market research (e.g. replacing already blocked advertisment) is likely sustainable - after the current, centralized and politicized models come crashing down during the already begun process of *geopolitical decoupling* ...
That ending...LOL
First off...Great video...Second...HALT AND CATCH FIRE!!! Love that show!
Amazing she is smart helping everyone.
LOVE HALT AND CATCH FIRE!
So glad these videos are helpful!
Neat, clean, simple and worth subscribing.

Sweet you are of course👌🎇
I've been on all the "dissident" watch lists for about 10 years. I think going private is like their favorite show getting canceled at this point. Which is sick on a completely different, complicated level.
Man, I am really interested in your story. I promise I'm not a fed haha
@@TIOLIOfficial you definitely don't have reasonable suspicion enough for a warrant approved by a judge. We can just be dissident crooks together. How does that sound?
You’re a breath of fresh air in these very crazy times. ☮️❤️👍
🙏
Ironically, Startpage will often refuse you if you access it over Tor.
Is it tasty is it scrumptious LOL props to editor
Very interesting video about search engines!
She is very cute... Naomi, nice dress! 😘
“Bill and Jeffery’s sleepover…” - what a giggle! 😅
😂
I can tell you are into what you do. You have one of the most useful sites I know.
I really appreciate your kind words!!
Thanks Naomi. Really appreciate your informative videos. For now, I’ll stick w DDG (weird name!). So many choices! Got to have the time to test all those!
Glad it was helpful!!
I think it's safe to say that anything Google tracks you and abuses your personal data. If you can use an alternaitve, just do it.
At that stage is irrelevant. Thanks to folks given away their data so willingly in past years, they gathered enough info to come up with some fancy algorithms. As for finance they are able to generate them now without bug data sale.
Hey, I just wanted to know what are your thoughts about the Neeva search engine?
You're so amazingly beautiful Naomi... Don't know how I came across this, but when I saw your face I had to tune in. 😍
Clicked for the cute redhead, stayed, because the video was very infotmative.
I always knew that my web searches were being tracked. Big companies use this tracking to get you to buy from them.
Duck Duck Go has an arrangement with Microsoft and shares data with them.
Hey duck duck GO has been compromised now .
Doesn't matter all phones have pre-built face book, Google maps, etc...
And that pretty much sums up where we are at
Thanks.
I recently read in the last two months Brave was doing some changes. I don't remember if it was a upgrade or an improvement ? I may have been researching or checking reviews 🤔.
Great information for a techno part-wit like me, thank you.
(Just one thing I think you might have wrong is the pronunciation of the 'cached' term? 'Kashayed'?) I might not be in on the techno word trend.
Thanks for watching!
Naomi needs to do perform Taylor Swift music on a live once she reaches 100K.
If I reach 100k this year, deal 🤝
@@NaomiBrockwellTV I'm looking forward to this, not sure why. But still :)
Im thinking a Lindsey Sterling.
Way better fit.
Or Lauren Phillips.
Dr. Joe Dispenza says studies have shown that our memories of the past are on average, about 50% made up so if we constantly focus on the past we're held captive by events that didn't happen. Much better to focus on and live in the end of a future we want, as though we already have it as taught by Neville Goddard.
Naomi Brockwell THANK YOU FOR KNOWLEDGE,, AND GOODMORNING FROM GREECE !!! DO I NEED A VPN ? I HAD ONE BUT FOR NOW I DONT 🤔
That's why I usually have Google and brave on Firefox so the simple word searches I use Google for the convenience in the more serious things I look up that I know Google censoring I use Brave
I thank you for your spreading the word. You’ve done a great job making the video and are very informative. Really good job. I don’t mean to be rude any way when I say I have known this for over ten years. I tell people but they still use google etc. its amazing to me that people are just now learning this. Great job in listing these search engines. Very well done. Some I haven’t heard about.
Thanks for watching!!

Your very welcome thank you for all your videos as I learn a lot from them. I even like the one video of you playing the guitar and singing. Your beauty and brilliance an long with your accent made me subscribe.
I appreciate your sub and kind words! 🙏
As a matter of interest, what do you use Bryan?
Use Brave and results have improved over time.
duck duck go tricked us all, definitely not private
Really like your channel. You speak in a very clear and engaging way.
I really appreciate that!!
Thank you for all there information. And: you are beautiful!
"Your political views" * shows a picture of Thanos*
Google is so popular because they serve results that tickle the users confirmation bias it is like a warm filt around you.
Just wow ♥️
Naomi, I am distracted from the content of this video because of you amazing beauty!!!
I want to look up that page you have on your tumbnail!
It's all a bit too complex for me. I just want to search for the best international flight prices. Will DDG work through Firefox to hide my info so they don't manipulate the prices? Thanks
Beautiful.
Thanks for watching!
firefox is my engine, but google still muscles its way in, tbh i think this is how the web is configured to direct searches to begin with, specially in the states...as for any spying and data gathering they do, well in my case there is nothing they can use from me that will affect me... and if they choose to block certain searches that i need specific answers from, well there is always the OLD FASHIONED WAYS of doing things, like going to a library or other LOCAL sources, all of which require ZERO internet use....
On a somewhat related note, do you have a video regarding recommended DNS servers?
Only decentralized alternatives like unstoppable domains, but that’s a great idea!
Talk about ECOSIA search engine
There's also TOR of course....
Tor isn’t a search engine, but I have done an explainer video on it! Great service
Very informative! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!!
Hello Naomi, can you do an update on these search engines? Some seem to have changed.
My question is, if I have a Google phone can I still use these websites without having Google track what I do over across "encrypted apps" I want to use these websites "and I have before" but if I use these encrypted apps on I google phone, than can they still track what I do across other apps?? I would really like to know how private it really is.
RE: duck duck ... I have tried over & over , most of the time , I get a load of blarney & not what I want . The way it is presented , many are hard to tell who they are , they take the profile of who you want . Sucks eggs .
