You don't need to throw out all your digital devices to reclaim some privacy in the digital age. There are small choices you can make about which products you use that go a LONG way to giving you back control over your data and carving out a private space on the internet. I first gave this presentation at Liberty Forum 2022.
    00:00 Why Privacy is Important
    08:43 Extreme Privacy Resources
09:39 How your data is collected
    13:02 Privacy Tools we'll cover
    13:24 Browsers
    24:00 Search Engines
    29:42 VPNs
    35:19 Email
    38:02 Private Messaging
    40:29 Final Thoughts
NOTE: In my presentation I recommend DuckDuckGo, but I added a note on screen that says a week after I gave this presentation they started to filter content, so I no longer recommend them, and I recommend Brave search engine instead.

Why Amazon? Isn't that entity part of MAGA FX? I wonder if you had known Rob Braxman Tech available on UA-cam.
To me, it's matters to me. Privacy on the internet is more important than ever.
Degoogled smartphones are one way to not be tracked while being online at some banking transaction.
MAGA FX stands for Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Apple. Facebook and X. (formerly known as Twitter )
Your stolen and hacked computer software information such as your real name, address,(not a fake addressesor alias,on any Apple or iPhone,in example. );your internet addresess, your birthdate, your banking account number, and social security number, are worth money on the black market.
      Globally.
Wi-Fi triangulation, the IP addresess,or despite the useful information Naomi Campbell already had shown us......
      It's not enough.
Cambridge Analytical (something like that; I'll have to look it up.
I know that Ms. Naomi Campbell already knows this, but for the novices [t]here that are computer illiterate, here's what an algorithm is :
*An algorithm is a computer program that uses a process of or a set of rules to be followed calculations..or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer.*
Problem is,there are *many* different types of algorithms out there. UA-cam and Google have two different computer ways of end-to-end encryption methods that can be a daunting task.
For even the most experienced, knowledge HACKERS to them to know.
      Go figure.

Naomi brings up a lot of good points. Privacy fatigue is very real, and also something a lot of people won't realize until they go to attempt to be private. You think to yourself "maybe ill pick a more private browser so google isn't all in my business" and then you realize, oh i've got google home in my house listening to me, and a google phone that I can't control the deep settings for, and oh my whole life is uploaded to google photos. And then you don't bother because its like filling one hole in a screen door.

Its important also to remember privacy is often expensive. Once the company isn't making money off your data anymore then the company needs a pay cheque somewhere else. So get ready to pay for email, pay for vpn, pay for online storage, and pay for whatever else is necessary.

    • @deeyadeli1435
      @deeyadeli1435 Місяць тому

I somewhat agree. It does cost money because you are no longer the product. But it's actually not that bad. For example, you can get a package deal from proton that has email, VPN, file storage, and password manager that offers endless emails pseudo's for under $8/month. You can use hush and or mysudo for phone numbers. Middle of the road cost of $5 and I think around $8 respectively. So if you wanted to combine all those services for around $21/month. You can also choose cheaper plans for all these. For what they all offer, I think that is a pretty good price for your data privacy.

TOR is nice, but you also have to understand that the gov't has tapped into most of the ISPs (the first hop) and most of the exit nodes (the last hop), so it's pretty easy for them to figure out what you're doing. The same thing is true, by the way, with VPNs, so they aren't really as anonymous as you might think.

Have you read the fine-print on Brave browser? They replace all the trackers with their own! It's just a smaller google, basically. Not a good choice for privacy.

    • @user-bn8wy6cc5v
      @user-bn8wy6cc5v 3 місяці тому

You're absolutely correct. 100%. I tried Brave, because everyone seems to be praising it. But it's a poor option for security. It claims to be private, but it does not provide *any* true privacy facility, eg portability. They also tie people into their ecosystem. One has to use brave sync across multiple devices. They have their own trackers. It might claim to have privacy built in, but Brave is generally a poor option from a security standpoint. A customized Firefox instance with a couple of add-ons is much safer and more private. Another much better option is K-meleon.

    • @OH2023-cj9if

      Just a browser...
Firefox is fine. It can be made very private.
What none of them can do is return fake plugin or extension info, or stop sites getting info.
What is stopping it having random info sent back? That's how sites know you use adblocking stuff, so what else can they ask.

I missed the days when I used to straddled the grid. Now whether I like it or not I am so completely on the grid to my chagrin. It wasn't my case five years ago. I sincerely envy those 😢days.

Signal is great for many reasons other than the ones mentioned here !!! I use it for voice calls, video calls, and chat for free International communications to Western Africa and the Philippines but does require the person have very good Internet at their specific locations where actually living in that part of the country closer to large instead of rural or suburbs !!! For instance the Philippines is big on certain locations and where they living !!!

You could put a gps on your dog, and there would be a buyer for that data, if the company would sell it.

When sending proton mail to a non-proton mail user, you have the option of setting a unique password as well as a self-destruct date. Obviously the password would need to be given to the email recipient via a separate communications channel. I believe a farely secure process, unless a weak password is used.

@@NaomiBrockwellTV Great idea! The most disappointing part of this video was how rushed you were. You appeared to put a lot of work into your presentation only to have to skip over a lot of it. This is a very important subject and has opened my eyes to things I was never aware of. In my opinion, a live event that you could control could help open more eyes.

Mail in and out of proton is in plain text, so the company can see it too, so can NSA and GCHQ. It is encrypted on server and not in transit.

I wish politicians understood this shi* and passed legislation to prevent companies from invading privacy, but that would mean public service to the people that elected them... The fact that Snowden hasn't been pardoned should help people realize that many governments don't care about your digital life. I respect thoughtful disobedience! Fantastic talk!!!

Of course, Google is a publicity agency, and they need to make money, based on mostly free services. And as a famous economist once said: there is no such thing as a free meal (and was used before by pub owners I believe).

When she mentioned googles bots,, I thought of Aaron Swartz. To bad Aaron Swartz was taken away from us. Sometimes I feel like he still alive but held hostage, as a slave for these big tech Giants or for some psycho pathic government tyrant. He had the skills and ability to really help humanity and they stole him from us
