Couldn't agree more about Chris Christou, that old skid with his hands out the window and roof, "steering with his nose", banging the expensive tyres off the Simmons B45s, was what got me in to skids. Young blokes don't realise how gentle some of the old school skids were.
I take my hat to these Guys who do this great Entertainment of burnouts.I have always loved drag racing and burnouts.I wish I had got into burnouts .But can't afford to do it.But I can afford to watch it.Maybe one day. Before I leave the planet.Great sport.
The last year i was there, the infamous year a camera used for filming was pinched....Our group had a tarp set up to keep the sun off us, directly against the wire strung fence, we stole the corflute beer price signs to feed through the fence to stop debris (there were no concrete barriers)...Myers mustang sitting directly in front of us facing away, spat part of the tyre with wires up in the air landing on the tarp and melting through....Good times!
Fun fact what got Victor Bray in to building a burnout car was attempting to do donuts in his drag car at my parents burnout strip at Sharon near Bundaberg was named the Castrol Motorsports Complex. he first drove a local guy's HQ who he used to race on the streets in his OG steel 55. he smashed it up against the wire barricades. then got in his drag car and tried doing donuts, but only got a 180 before almost hitting the barricade. Said he loved it and would build a proper burnout car. Was funny because Ben Bray would drive the small hire car around the grounds. he was about 9 and could barely see over the wheel lol.
its a shame George Separovich in his meth HK didn't make the list, Gary Myres even was quoted to say "It was one of the best burnouts I have ever seen".
How does it happen? You’re coaching the crew.. Or printing the news.. Or straining ‘till you thought you would burst You sure gotta thirst A hard earned thirst needs a big cold beer And the best cold beer is Vic… Victoria Bitter See you there brother!
