I hope Ohtani skips the HR Derby
no need risking an oblique injury
A historic two-way player, this season he will be specializing in pitcher rehabilitation and DH, and the predicted impact of the HR Derby and the possibility of him participating as a megastar are still unknown at this time.
In future seasons I wouldn't mind seeing Shohei participating. I do agree though that the risk here seems to outweigh the reward. It's a fun thing for a day, but he strained his oblique last year in batting practice, which ended his season, and Max Muncy also strained his oblique in BP and now he's on the 60-day DL. If that sort of injury can occur in just regular BP, it could happen in a home run derby. Winning a world series is more important to me. Once he has one under his belt, and if he's fully healthy, I wouldn't mind.
They should just do the best quality HRs and not quantities. Putting distance and height of the ball in play. Just give them 1 minutes and take the 3 best HRs as the final score. They can try as many HRs as they want but only best 3 gets counted.
Pederson got screwed in ‘15. He wasn’t given the equal rest time, and Todd Frazier got extra rest time. It was a BS move.
Doc commented that it's up to Shotime to make the call. I can see both points of concern. If the doctor clears him to swing hard for an hour, this could be epic!
The odds of injury or ruining your swing are not zero, so I'd rather not see a Dodger in the HR Derby. btw, it would have been odd seeing Klay Thompson in a Lakers uni, but I could have gotten used to it, lol.
please don’t. there’s absolutely no point to the home run derby. it has zero value, but a lot of risks.
Tell judge to participate.
Leave Shohei alone.
Ohtani in HR derby going to be hyped. Imagine if Ohtani, Gunner, Elly, Oneil Cruz or Vlad. WOW !! These dudes will KILL THE BALL.
