  • Here is a highlight video from my most recent Century bike ride which took place on September 27, 2014 "The SLOBC Lighthouse Century". This Century sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club is a very well organized and staffed event. The staff were all friendly and quite helpful. By the way all of the rest stops were all adequately spaced out, well stocked and staffed appropriately. You can count on every rest stop to have what you need so you could fuel up and be on your way. The food quality and choices were very nice and the lunch spread was just fabulous... where else can you get homemade berry pie? Definitely put this Century ride on your bucket list if you have yet to do this one. It features a very scenic and safe route and I would categorize this as a moderately challenging ride. According to my Garmin we had 6089' of climbing with 6026' worth of downhill action so that certainly made it all worth it. This ride starts out of Morro Bay High School then heads North on Highway 1. We get to Highway 46 heading East and this folks is where all those darn hills were hiding! LOL We double back and head West on Highway 46 until we reach Highway 1 and continue further North pass San Simeon. There were lots of headwinds heading North and that was a real challenge in itself because you feel like a weakling traveling a measly 7-10mph. At the turnaround point we had the tailwinds at our back and are heading South on Highway 1. Finally I'm able to travel 20-25mph and feel like I'm riding on a fresh set of legs. Wow! What a difference a South vs North direction makes. Mostly flat heading back with a few rollers here and there but still more of a downhill grade to wrap up this ride. Please enjoy! Ted V.

Cool! What brand camera mount do you use?

Hey Gary since I have FSA handlebars on my road bike I couldn't use a traditional round handlebar mount from Sony or other due to the ovate aero design of this FSA. My solution was to purchase another Garmin up front handlebar mount since it has a thin footprint and can mount close to the handlebar stem just barely. I disassembled the top of that Garmin mount and drilled a whole large enough for a tripod screw to fit and lock the camera in. Because of where the tripod mounting mounting screw socket is on this Sony camera it is partially countersunk on one end when mounted. This camera position would be totally centered where I normally would have my Garmin 510 mounted. My extra Garmin mount would now be mounted to the left of the stem and of course is no longer centered but it's at least out of the way plus the 510 is nicely visible and more importantly it's not in the way of my hands. Thanks for asking man and ride safe!

tedvstudios Very clever! Nice results. Keep up the good work! I'm posting my Lighthouse 2014 movie soon. Hope you'll give it a look :) That wind was brutal, wasn't it? My wife and I did the 65 miler and my sister did the 108. It was our 10th Lighthouse. Just love that ride!
