everything the guy is saying is true, i was that student who sometimes ate from wits dustbins(lol, i would watchout for anyone who might see me) and quickly check for a heavy container. that container often had barely eaten burgers/pizza from th Dining Hall. yah it was rough... hope my kids will never face that, it was humiliating at times, scavenging for food on campus, yeses. hungry , having to sleep at the libra and woken up by the vacuum at 24hr library. the sad thing is that i never completed that degree and im only now doing my final year in MiningEng at UJ this is after decided to return to school. and im 30yrs old. LIFE.....

It’s never too late don’t compare yourself to your contemporaries and you’ll never lose your determination. I’m sorry you went through that. I feel your strength and resilience but we shouldn’t have to be strong in the first place. These pple leading have no shame whatsoever. Someone who was rewarded with the presidency for defending white capital by killing our pple in Marikana.

We are not united as black nation, black elites are gate keepers of black excellence and also the same black elites propagate white supremacy because of stomach politics. We need leaders like Dlamini in our societies that advocate for black liberation 🫶🏿

Mcebo articulates well the struggles of Black students especially at tertiary level. The saddest part is that these struggles were soo normalised to an extent that I think our parents would be shocked/hurt to hear them being articulated in this manner.
We don't really thank the student governing bodies enough for the sacrifices they made because they were also registered students with their own struggles, but they were willing to put themselves in the frontline and fight for students rights.
We need to do better. Government and the private sector really need to do better. We cannot be having students in 2024 still with the same struggles we suffered.
Thank you for this episode, Mr Mashabela🙏🏾
