    Solid advice. Here are a few more. Imagine a friend behind the lens. Don't think of an intimidating audience; instead, visualize having a conversation with someone you know and like. This helps make your delivery natural and engaging. Slow down and enunciate. Nervousness can make you speak fast. Consciously slow your pace and speak clearly for better viewer understanding.
    ...pro tip. Draw a 😊 on a sticky note and place it near the lens. This simple hack helps remind you where to look and creates the illusion of eye contact. Also helps with positive vibs :) that the audience will catch.

    So many UA-camrs do this. Even very experienced ones. Thank you very much for making this video. I wish more people saw this and would heed this advice.

    Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I, too, have been guilty of this from time to time. It’s much more when people are filming on the iPhones.

    • @TamaraGabrielUK
      @TamaraGabrielUK  2 місяці тому

      Totally understand that. It’s so easy to do when filming on a phone as it feels more natural to look at the screen than that tiny dot.

    Great tip, using action cameras I turn off the front screen, knowing that with such a wide angle I’m usually in frame. I find it’s the movement I see on the screen distracts my eye

  • @30somethingmike

    Well spotted and it’s something I’ve definitely done especially when filming on something like an iPhone where it’s natural to look at the screen not the lens. Famously Casey Neistat wears sunglasses for this reason, so it doesn’t matter if he’s looking at the lens. Thanks for the reminder and I’ll definitely keep this in mind!!

  • @cliftontv
    @cliftontv 2 місяці тому +1

    @Tamara I believe that is the natural instinct. But it is a practice, like you said, will make it harder to connect with your audience. I still do it sometimes. I have to remind myself all of the time. One thing I used to do (but it depends on how you are framing your shot) is move the camera farther away and zoom in. If it's a vlog style with a lot of closeup shots like your videos or you're working with a camera like the Pocket 3, you may not have that option.
    All in all, practice is how I got better. You do very well with staying locked in.

    I have more than 10 years of experience in video editing and production, I have spoken at major events and even teach cinema. But I'm trying to record in front of cameras to produce content and I realize that I'm becoming an extremely serious and sad person. In public or in lectures I don't have this difficulty communicating. Do you have any tips regarding this topic?

    Thanks for the reminder. It's a little bit different for me: it's not that I'm looking on the screen but, when talking, I'm looking all around trying to figure out what I'm saying especially when not talking to the camera in my mother tongue. Anyway, the result is the same: I don't often look at the lens and have constantly to remind me to do it. Hope that with the time I'll train myself to actually look at the lens and not all around.
