    This is my first winter fishing (I’m 65). I haven’t caught a fish since November. Summertime seems so easy now. I really thought I knew something. But, I can now say that I have nearly a full winter’s worth of training on what does not work. Thanks for the helpful videos as I keep adding to my database of knowledge. Of course adding to my catch count would also be nice. But, being in a kayak on the water is all the prize you need some days.

      There is a learning curve in winter for sure! You have the right mindset, which is the most important part. Try fishing durning the warmest part of the days and look for the steepest banks on your lake. Drop shots and jerkbaits should be your go to baits. What lures are you primarily using?

      @@FullTimeFishing I have been doing a variety of fishing between some kayaking on some small impoundments in Northern Virginia area. I have also done a couple kayak outings on the Upper Rappahannock. I’ve also thrown in some trout attempts at a few trout stocked ponds. As far as lures, I have tried some soft plastic tubes, some chatterbait and various jigs on the river. On the lakes, I focused more on some jerkbaits and some small crappie baits. I used a drop shot for the first time with a soft plastic worm on one of the lakes. I haven’t really figured out how to work the drop shot. Of course that’s true for most things. Again, the summer is pretty easy with more options readily available. At least for a novice.

      @@enternews the drop shot is worked just like a jig. Throw it out on semi slack line and give it about 10 seconds before dragging it back. If you’re fishing rock you only need about 6-8 inches between the worm and the weight. For grass ponds/bottom, you’ll just want to make sure your above the grass. I’m going to be doing some drop shotting tomorrow so I’ll be sure to give some tips in there.

    Great to see a new video from you, your content is great, thank you!!! I'm near Charlotte NC and the ponds that I mostly fish near home have had very low visibility this winter (chocolate milk water). It's been tough. I found a pond this winter that has some nice slab crappies so while fishing there with crappie baits in the muddy water I have managed to land a handful of solid bass, but I can't wait until spring gets here!!!

    • @FullTimeFishing
      @FullTimeFishing  8 місяців тому

      That’s awesome! The lake I’m fishing here is actually pretty close to the NC boarder. It’s funny how bass can find tiny baits in muddy water. I try to stick to clear water in the winter because they tend to bite a jerkbait and drop shot better. Thanks for watching!

      @@FullTimeFishing I'm near Lake Norman and the water there is usually clear but bank fishing access is limited so I don't get there too often, so I stay close to home fishing mainly neighborhood/public ponds and I love ultralight fishing and there are some nice slab crappie, bluegill and shell crackers in my local ponds.

    hi, i live in the same area as you. what lake is that. is that the main reservoir? or beaver creek? Also i might buy my first pedddle kayack soon. if yoi have any recommendations! Also do u have any really good bank fishing lakes/ ponds in the area! Keep posting your videos i love to watch them!!

      I actually moved from Charlottesville to the Roanoke/Lynchburg area so this is a lake in southern VA. I like the native titan and hobie kayaks. They are more expensive but will last a long time. Just keep in mind your going to need to buy wheels and a landing gear. For bank fishing, check out Boars Head. There are 5 ponds there which will give you a lot to fish. The first pond and the last ponds are my favorite. Thank you for watching and commenting!

      @@434Fishing yeah they’re pretty cool. That was my favorite bank fishing spot. As for kayaking Totier creek is really good and Walnut Creek park has a lot of bass that are mostly small. Fluvanna ruitan is also decent but can be very tough. I’m going to do a kayak walkthrough video soon so you know what to expect when you buy one.

    man if i pulled up to a pond or lake that muddy in the winter i would turn around and go home. even with another foot of visability i would be skeptical. fishing in cold water is hard fishing and cold muddy water is near immpsoible! not sure what state ur in but if that water looks like that and is under 40 degress it aint worth it!!! I respect the grind for sureeeee.

    • @FullTimeFishing

      Haha yeah that was definitely my first thought but having a family means fishing time is limited. Water was 48-54 so not too bad. Thanks for watching!

      I grew up fishing a muddy lake/river (Lake Shafer/Tippecanoe River) - its rarely THAT milky, and in the last decade its been a lot cleaner than it used to be, but back in the 90s it was brown brown brown lol And I've caught too many fish to count since 1990.
