I was just thinking this same thing! And that spice drawer is sheer poetry and luxury! Oh, I'm so jealous!!! 😄😘🥰 my dad always made something like this and it was so delicious!! Thank you Catherine!! 😊
This brings back so many memories from the 50s as a kid and then again in the 70s when I was a young Air Force bride and the budget only allowed for meat once a week. Thank you and your sister for sharing 💕
My husband showed me how to do this many years ago. Now it’s the only way I cook our family cube steaks!! It’s sooo delicious!! That tomato breaks it down so it’s nice and tender. Not tough at all… Thank for sharing ❤❤❤
This is an old favorite of mine. I always used the Better Homes & Garden Cookbook version of this recipe from the 1950s. I have a lot of bell peppers from last summer’s garden sliced up in the freezer and those go in as well. Sometimes I do this in one of those cooking bags. Always a hit.
As a child of the '50s, I grew up eating Swiss steak. As a young wife in the '70s, I started making this in a pressure cooker as my Mother had done for years. Have never eaten it with any kind of tomatoes, be it diced, paste, sauce or whatever. Have always eaten and/or made it with brown gravy made from the drippings after browning the meat. My two sisters cook it this way too as did my daughter and now my granddaughter.
ive made something similar for yrs..my kids when they were younger loved it over plain boiled potatoes...ive gardened since i was a teen so never had a shortage of home canned tomatoes..the tomatoes are what tenderize the meat..i always used a quart...im 57and my mother used to make this freq...its the best..stewed tomatoes meet beef...love it to this day...peas and tuna on toast and this recipe i could live on
Momma always made swiss steak my brother Duane loved his favorite food, I wasn't a fan momma always made rice I ate the rice with the gravy. Thank you for sharing Catherine have a blessed evening stay safe and healthy. Memories are truly a treasure. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
This looks amazing Catherine! 😍 I love that you cooked it in the crockpot! The meat will be so tender! 😘 It's also nice that you get great recipes from family members! ☺️ Thanks for sharing another great recipe! 🥰
I love Swiss steak. My mother in law use to fix this. She wasn’t much of a cook but she could make this and yummy spaghetti. This will gross a lot people out but she’d thaw her hamburger in a pot of water and that’s what she cooked her spaghetti in 🤢. Sounds nasty but there was something really good about it. She put onions and bell peppers in her Swiss steak along with homemade tomato sauce with diced tomatoes in it. Yours looks just as yummy. I want mashed potatoes with mine.
I've been craving a Swiss steak over rice so I bought a package of cubed steak and threw it in the freezer last week. I kind of forgot about it and here you are bringing an easy yummy crockpot recipe I needed. Thank you 👍🏼
WellI made this for dinner and it was a hit.Didnt even need knives to cut it.Fell apart. Was so good.Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe,I will be making this alot I'm sure.
I’ve always wanted to cook cube steaks. I remember when we were kids my mother and father would buy them. I love the way you built up the flavors. This is definitely a recipe that I would try. You hit a home run. Happy New Year’s. Thank you.
Making the Swiss steak today it sounds incredible haven't had it in years I'm doing mine a little different because I'm on a walker so I'm going to add all the spices in with the tomatoes in the beef broth in the Crock-Pot put the onions and carrots in there without cooking them on the stove I'm doing the cube steaks the way you showed us but to shorten it up that's how I'm doing mine we'll see how it comes out thank you Catherine
Looks delicious! For the last few years, if I get impatient I put a foil over the crock then the lid, making sure the foil is wrapped tight around the lip. Hurrying the cooking process if it seems to take longer than you want. I never leave my house if I do this cos it gets very hot! With a liner, it is easy clean up! I love cube steak Catherine! So good! Will try this recipe!
Guess what I got for Christmas? It’s red, white, and blue and there is 3 of them! My son bought me your cookbooks for Christmas! What a lovely gift!! Happy new year! 👩🍳
Wow! That looks absolutely delicious! I am using my Crock Pot today as well. I am making homemade meatballs & sauce for Italian Meatball Subs. Thanks for sharing Catherine. Have a beautiful day.
Wow!! Cynthia does amazing work. This looks great!! I love Swiss steak! I have a wonderful recipe for Chicken Fried Steak using cube steaks and the homemade gravy. Thank you!!💖💖🙏
ALDI has great cubed steaks. A regular in our house. Sometimes I make it with a tomato based sauce, sometimes a mushroom gravy. Love it! Affordable and relatively easy.
This is my favorite. I would always go to a restaurant called “ Summer Kitchen” here in Nebraska ( Omaha) they had this as a special on Thursday night! Most places don’t serve this or it isn’t made this way. So I appreciate you and your sister in law for posting this recipe. Now off to the store I go.🤗
Im not a swiss steak fan. Having said that, after watching your recipe I might have to change my mind. This steak looks nice and tender, and that I would like a lot! Plus, all that tender veg. yum. God bless you guys.
I'm new to your channel and I've already made some of your recipes. I want to thank you for sharing with us all your delicious recipes. Going to make this Sunday looks amazing. I love easy and delicious recipes so thank you.
Oh my! That looks delicious! 😊 I haven't made that in years... definitely going to try to make it this week. Thank you for sharing with us, dear. 😊🤗 Hope you and your family have a wonderful New Year! 🙂🌞🌻
That looks great. I plan on doing some slow and intense house cleaning before summer and I've been looking for meals that I can put on in the morning and can cook while I wotk. Thanks!
So I just finished a giant bowl that I cooked today and I must say it was delicious I can't believe how tender it was I did need to add a little bit of salt to my portion but I like most beef meals a little extra salty 😁 thanks for the video 👍
The spices you used are what my aunt who is a cajun taught me were true cajun seasonings. You need to try fried chicken that way. Or even pork chops mmmm good.
Wow Catherine another tasty meal, I'm so impressed with the things that you prepare and find myself in the kitchen, thanks for sharing and happy New Year to you and your family as well
Omg looks delicious! I'll have to try making mine this way. I usually cook it on the stove top for hours. I LOVE that spice drawer AND your cutting board. Your husband is surely is a gem! U two are so cute together ❤️
Gosh that looks delicious, I'll have to ask our butcher if they make cube steaks, I've never seen them in the market here, but I'd sure love to try this one. Thanks for sharing it here.
Hello there. What is the cut of beef that your cube steaks are from ? I am English, and I haven’t heard that term before.I was once given Swiss steak cooked by an American woman. This was in the early sixties in the U K .I found it just soo mouthwatering delicious.I was only sixteen years of age then and had yet to find my great love of cooking,so It didn’t occur to me to ask for the recipe.( why would I ? when there were so many other exciting things to explore in those days.!!! ) At last I have your recipe to follow, and can’t wait to try it. I am now 75 years old and disabled, but one of my sons is an excellent cook,so I shall pass your recipe on to him. Thankyou for your channel, I just love it ! Greetings from Wolverhampton in The West Midlands, England 🏴 xxxxxxx
Cube Steak comes from a variety of beef cuts, but it generally comes from the tougher cuts. That's why you want to cook it low and slow, or pressure cook it.
This is wonderful I had a problem with my crockpot cubed steak being too salty for me from using gravy and onion soup packages. Taste good but to salty to my liking. I have started using a crock pot had one for years but no success and put it away years ago...same old story, please don't judge me😶😂 of course I had used too much liquid... oh boy. So I will try this one out soon thanx for posting Catherine!
That's a nice cutting board Tom is smart the right tools for the job to keep the good food coming I'm looking for a board like that do u know where Tim got yours at
