Looking back on this video now, it’s hilarious to see all the comments talking about how people were complaining about quality. Yet, this is probably the best “quality” you’re gonna get nowadays. Maybe not resolution wise, but ambition wise and with interesting brain teasers that actually make you scratch your head. People were so focused on resolution, they never realized what really mattered: the content itself. And I must say, quirkology probably had the most fun content I’ve seen on this platform tbh. Even to this day it ages pretty well and manages to stump me sometimes
@@whotfisturbo That's what I thought at first too but then he put his hand out in front of the light and we could see the shadow of it. Maybe he used some kind of trick for that part though.
Okay this video was a really bang up job, I must say. Bravo. I think these investigative, illusion-revealing videos are the next step. Felt like a really fun classroom lecture. Loved the editing and composition, really. Classic Quirkology but in a new way.
@@emiliatan5792 maybe he's not an idiot, he just too serious and didn't know when to not too serious. But correcting someone else mistake can lead to annoyance or gratitude, it depends on the person. As you can see I am got too serious replying your message lol. Hope you have a great day !
why are people complaining about the quality of this video??? if anything, i prefer it and its style over the quality of most science videos these days! it gives me a nostalgic, “videos that i used to watch on TV as a kid” vibe, and I appreciate it so much!
People nowadays are super-spoiled when it comes to video quality - if it is less than like 1080p then they will always be like "w0ot which pixel is the video? I cannot see _anything_ at all!". =P
It's the light reflecting to the front of the person making it seem she's invisible. When he waves his hands, he blocks a part of the light, but the rest still reflects on top of the person.
Absolutely astonishing. Love the old camera style and all that, although people seem to not understand. You are a pretty good talker. And have a very likable face.
No, The water trick is done by having glass with the same refractive index as water. Meaning the light bends the same amount in the water is in the balls. He, on the other hand, is neither see-through, nor does he have the same refractive index, so....
There's no mirrors...but as we all know...glass becomes a mirror at a certain point if the light on one side is stronger than the light source on the other side. So Im guessing that the glass acts as a mirror when turning on the glass which then also would explain how an object behind the person...like a hand is visible in front of the person. And the whiteness blocking her is white due to the strenght of the light and amplifying relfection on the glass while the mid region of the person is the darkest point, emits not light on the backside of the glass. The brightness is blocking our sight due to how the glass is placed around the chair, where the light source is coming from and the fact that the persons midsection is blocking light from one side of the glass.
Nimrod Challenger - I don't mind subscribing to a channel I like. But it makes no sense to sub just because someone subscribed to you. I want subscribers who actually care about the videos I make. That way they might actually WATCH the videos I make.
I saw this same illusion (or at least a spin on it) at a Ripley's Believe It or Don't, See If I Care (this might not be the right name, my memory's hazy) somewhere in Prince Edward Island as a kid 20 some-odd years ago! I always wondered how it was done. Now, looking at the setup, it makes perfect sense
It's like 2 periscopes. The light comes thru the rear glass, reflects off the front glass toward the center then reflects off the rear glass toward the viewer. And technically it does use mirrors if you count reflecting glass as a mirror.
how can someone this like this guy's video he is very interesting and very awesome Richard Wiseman is my favorite professor and I just got to both of his UA-cam channels
Read through the invisible Man, there is a chapter where he describes about how he tried to get the refractive index of air and the body to be the same; and then directed his work to nullify the effect of the pigments that absorb and reflect light. That is the basic idea of invisibility.
Ruvim Silc There is nothing wrong at all with the quality of this video, you can see perfectly well what's going on. People are too spoiled with crystal clear first class HD nowadays.
Robert Harbin was one of my childhood heroes. I think he DID show this illusion once on TV, say, in the 1960's or 1970's. I didn't think it was all that convincing so maybe that's why he never did it again. I saw Robert Harbin live in stage when I was taken by my father to one of the magic Circle Christmas Shows, which must have been in the early 1960's. The magic Circle still have their Christmas shows which members of the public can attend. They are held in their now permanent home in Stevenson Street near Euston Station.
Just commenting to mention that I'm early. This is gonna go very viral I bet and I want people to know I was one of the first 300 to watch it. Report me for spam if you want.
I think Paul Daniels performed a similar illusion on his magic show on the BBC. They had a volunteer from the audience step into a box and it was surrounded by people from the audience. A light in the box was ramped up and the person inside the box disappeared.
Heh I've been using orbeez to do the same illusion with the balls in water. Once they've absorbed enough water, they refract light the exact same as water. So, the clear ones are perfectly invisible under water. I've also been soaking them in things like rubbing alcohol, food coloring, soda water, anything I can think of. I even soaked some in water mixed with baking soda to absorb half way, then swap it out for vinegar and let them absorb vinegar for the other half and see if I get bubbles in them or if they explode.
Great work. Each little 10 second clip in this video took a long time to set up! Quality work.

When 480p becomes obsolete and 4K becomes standard, UA-cam should keep 480p just for Quirkology :3
yeah.... try to find good 4K content.

For those confused, it's just the bending of light. In this case, the glass is reflecting the light behind the person
Still quite impressive he discovered it in 1929
