This dude is so unique !!!! very genuine ...a really good player
N a genius of boutique gears /// i really enjoy to listen to him
Thank you so much for this explanation Simon, it really clears for me which pedal does what.
Simon, you are great!
Certainly helped me to re-think my current setup with my Constable, Page and Harlot.......I agree that running the master on the Constable can quickly push my delay and reverb into a more distorted sound which is undesirable.
Thank you for the concise workings of the pre-amp pedals. I’m loving my Constable and it’s playing a big role in my tone shaping......
Thanks Glenn - glad you are enjoying your Constable!
PPIMV , I’m thinking of getting a Maiden because it will offer me a nice variable tone with my Fender pro reverb. I’ll email you if I decide to order it....thanks Simon...
PPIMV also, I’m very interested in the 1w power amp when you get the time to make them. I think using that with the Constable would be an ideal situation for direct recording to the DAW. Right now we are in the studio working on finishing up three songs. It’s going along well but a tad behind schedule. Keep me posted on the 1w
Cheers
Glenn
Will do Glenn...
Thanks for posting Simon. Very informative and helpful!
I really like those new videos Simon. What I would really like to see is some AB comparisons to show how this can be a real alternative to a regular amp setup (Maiden BF + Power Station vs a classic Fender Blackface for instance), but also how it can be a real alternative to a Kemper (Preamp + Torpedo CAB or other power amp sim and cabsim device vs Kemper), especially in terms of portability and consistency of tone when going directly to a PA or a DAW. Thanks!
Well I will be doing some more videos with comparisons....hopefully I'll get to some of your suggestions!
PPIMV great! Thanks!
Can I power these up with any power supply like Strymon Zuma? or they only work with the stock power supply? Thanks!
Man, I really need to get my hands on a Maiden and a Page DS, those things sounds spectacular. Also I would probably get some kind of stroke if you ever decide to ever put a Sunn Model T in a pedal format.
Great video Simon. Answered all the questions I asked by email the other week ;-) I was playing my page through my bassman earlier and it's such a sweet sounding pedal. I'm gonna get a fryette power station soon for playing at home and will be buying your preamps to have a home setup for playing / recording.
Has the "Tube preamp pedal + Fryette PS" setup made it for you (I am considering the same setup for home to bar playing) ?
Amazing! Don't know if you'll remember me but you had given me guitar lessons while you were in Brussels! :-)
You're just as good as I remembered...didn't know about your tech skills though? Congrats on that part of your career as well!
Your pedals sounds awesome!
Cheers, Kenneth
Hi Kenneth! Well that would have been a long time ago...are you still in Brussels?
@@PPIMV Yup
I’m currently on the waiting list and I’m very torn about whether to spend the extra cash for a Maiden D and a Page DS or just go with the juggler. If anyone has experience trying both setups, I’d love to know your thoughts. Cheers!
Awesome. I’m saving money rigth now
I assume, then, that the Page DS would work pretty well in an FX loop of a tube amp?
You should consider renaming your UA-cam channel name. I guess many people trying to find some information on your products would love an official Kingsley Amplifiers channel. Killer video by the way, subscribed a while ago :)
Just bought a lighty used Maiden. Love it but came with a cheap power supply (not sure if Kingsley supplies one). Question: I want to get a high quality adapter - how about a Onespot? Thanks
Thanks
Yes, a Onespot works just fine....
@@PPIMV Thank You!!
Just got a MAIDEN - stuck it in the Fx return of my 1x12 SS combo amp - now it sounds great! Question: do the rest of my pedals need to go before the Maiden? Thanks!
You can put all your pedals before the Maiden as it is a preamp....just like putting your pedals in front of your amp. Or you can put reverbs, delays (and time based effects in general) after the Maiden, making it the same signal chain as putting these pedals in the effects loop of an amp.
@@PPIMV thanks - you are an amazing player btw - Robben-esque!!
I’m thinking soo badly bout buying one of those. I just want to know if they could be placed before a power amp/cab sim pedal?
Yes that is exactly what they are for - either into a power amp or into a cab sim device.
HI Simon, I love the idea of having massive gain on tap, and being able to dial it back with my volume knob. Is it possible to reach the saturation level of say a Mesa Boogie Mark IV, but still hold onto the "PLEXI" feel and be able to roll it off? I currently use a Mark V head, Super high gain, but I need a noise suppressor to keep squeeling at bay. Second question is: How does a noise suppressor effect how your pedals work? where would you run it? I'm using the NS2 by boss for that, and it has it's own effects loop. I also have an effects loop I could use on my amp. There are too many ways to route my signal! Thanks in Advance!!- KR
The Constable is pretty low gain, so you would need to use other pedals to get lots of saturation. However, this does still tend to get a good plexi-like sound because the pedal(s) are still running into a plexi preamp.
Honestly I have never tried any noise suppressors or noise gates with any of my products, so I'm afraid I'm not much use there...probably you would put the noise suppressor after your gain pedals but before the Constable.
Can you use a tube preamp in an apartment when you want tube distortion at low levels?
I.e. is there such a pre amp?
Yes - but you still need an amp or power amp to run it into of course. Also, some preamps are simply clean preamps and do not generate overdrive, so it will depend on the particular model.
it's clean distortion
Where does the Squire 86 fit into the spectrum pls?
It is a preamp - good for power amp use, but also very nice for front of amp boosting/tone shaping..
@@PPIMV Thanks. Trying to work which one I should order :)
Simon, do you do a Hi Watt clone preamp pedal?
Not at this time - perhaps down the road, as I have various other projects to look at for now...
First comment will be from a Squire BF user : run for it if you have an fx loop. In my case in a Suhr Badger 18 (el84), with a slight touch of compression (old Boss CS2 modified by MSM Workshope - a French Tech) and with a Strat : Magic ! Superb cleans.
Thanks Pierre-Yves - glad you like your Squire BF!
running the badgers front end (fx send)into the comp then the squire to fx return or bypassing the send plugging the guitar into the comp then the squire into just the effects return?
I don't use the front end of the amp : Guitar=>Comp=>Squire=>Delay=>Reverb straight into the Fx return.
Pierre-Yves Assing so you only play clean?
With this setting absolutly (think about Knopfler, really). BUT I also use Simon's Harlot OD pedal, or a Monsterpiece COD (terrific OD) or a TS style when more midrange is required.
Am I right in thinking that one way to separate the preamp from overdrive is to run the preamp into the send receive and keep the pedal FX in the normal loop going into the front of the amp. Therefore say maiden into FX loop but Page, top boost into the front of the amp. Secondly, I am a little confused with the Juggler, especially in fx loop, because they are together then as you said you have to be careful about overloading the delay. With a Strymon Timeline you can wire it before or after the juggler or both as it has that switchable capability if not using stereo. However, given you have a mono bypass in the juggler you can not do where if it separated the preamp/ page two inputs two outputs you could run the preamp to the send, but run the page part into front of the amp! It feels like the Juggler is more difficult to configure than if you have separate maiden and page. Could you do a juggler with that configuration, i.e. output the preamp to the send and output the Page part to the fx loop into the front of the amp?
Hi Robert - no need to separate the clean and OD channels on the Juggler - just run your regular pedals (other than delay and reverb) into the Juggler input, then Juggler output into delay and reverb - into effects return of amp. Just like when using the Maiden plus Page DS combo, you simply place reverb and delay after them both. That way you get delay and reverb after the clean channel (which is fine) and after the OD (which you want). It's just the same as when you use the effects loop of an amp that has an OD channel - both the clean and OD channels of the amp are routed through the fx loop send jack into your delay/reverb, then back into the loop return jack into the power amp.
Interesting, so if the timeline or hof2 which are stereo I could run into each of the FX return of 2 amps. That would be interesting, I use two amps via the Hof2 which is stereo, stereo starts with Timeline.
Yup - a stereo setup using the power amps of your amps and whatever preamp you like...
Hi .. do u make a preamp and reverb combo pedal ?
No, not at the moment....I will probably come out with a dedicated tube reverb unit first...
PAGE...you know, for Jimmy. :-)
I’m thinking it’s a reference to a medieval page not a ‘Jimmy’ Page. The later was not associated with Dumble amps (which the Page is based on).
Might’ve been nice if you actually played the pedal lol
