    I really needed this video, my freshman year was taken due to covid and my recent season, sophomore season, was taken due to a bad injury. My coach always said he saw the greatness in me but I haven’t been able to show that on the track due to inconveniences. I’m definitely claiming junior season as my year and making a huge comeback during indoor.

    Very good and helpful. Appreciate all that you are doing. Christian is running XC now with the hope it will make him a better 400m, 800m (his favorite) and 1600m runner. He really doesn't like more than 1600m, but we are hoping XC will build his stamina and endurance to get the most out of his ability for the 800m. He's just a freshman so we got a long way to go!!!

    • @MJPTV

      Love to hear that. My other advice would be to make sure Christian has adequate rest. High school is a time where you can make a ton of improvement. However, make sure Christian is never overworked that’s how injuries happen. So I would make sure he always gets proper recovery and rest.

    I did hurdles and high jump back in high school. I'm mad I didn't take track and field more seriously at the time, but I have to admit I didn't have a real passion for it. I really could've went far with it because I had the tools and plenty of opportunities. However I still wanted to play basketball so I didn't fully commit to track and field, and even though I received a partial scholarship to a D2 school, they didn't have my major and the school was too expensive so I ended up not going. But looking back, going to the high school I went to with my mindset now, I would've dedicated more time to track and field and made it the #1 priority and only play basketball sparingly at my own leisure, because I had no chance playing high school basketball because the coaches played favorites. Grades were never an issue for me, I always had good grades throughout high school.

    • @MJPTV
      @MJPTV  4 роки тому +3

      Yeah a lot of people I know were really good at track and field too. But, they had another sport they took serious besides track. I feel like the strength of T&F is that it’s an individual sport and what you put in you get out. You don’t have to depend on teammates doing the right thing except for on relays. You’re always in control of how you do. I hope more people see the great opportunities there are in T&F.

    • @NigerianBaller
      @NigerianBaller 4 роки тому +4

      @@MJPTV And also what I like about track is that there is very little to no favoritism shown by coaches, you're either good or your not, it's not like other team sports where there is a limited amount of roster spots, a certain system you have to fit into, or other players have a size or experience advantage, it doesn't matter if you've been running for 2 years or 8 years, or if your 5-8 or 6-3, all that matters is how well you perform at meets, better coaching can help you improve faster, yes, but at the end of the day you still have to put in that work and perform well at your events

For me track was just something to do after school. I really wanted to play basketball, but never had the proper coaching or opportunities to take my game to the next level.

      Build up your strength and explosive power in the weight room. Work on your form and technique especially working on proper body position. Keep building up your speed endurance and speed reserves since this year is extra fast! Also since you haven’t been running you might need to do a bit more base training to build up your endurance.

      Since you’re in the 10th grade coaches won’t give you as much attention. But during your 11th and 12th grade year you should get more attention.
      1. Make sure you try to call coaches. A lot of coaches will be in their office around 4:00 PM / 16:00. Be sure to check to see what time it is wherever you’re calling.
      2. Try to qualify and compete in big meets this will definitely help elevate your status.
      3. Become ranked on the worldwide U18 performance list. This will make a lot of big schools in America approach you.
      4. See if there are any foreign coaches on the staff. Contacting them will definitely help since most likely they’re in charge of finding international talent.
      5. Reach out to people with connections. Try to contact someone like Throws University. I’m sure they have a lot of great contacts that would be interested in you in the future.

    I have a question, I have a 13 year old daughter who plays and loves basketball, unfortunately she lacks height and speed and because of her lack of speed coaches don't give her a fair chance. I have asked a few people I know that ran track in high school, do high school track and field coaches take "slow" runners?

    • @MJPTV
      @MJPTV  3 роки тому

      Sadly often times most coaches tend to prioritize just the fast runners. Your best bet would be to find a committed club coach or go to another school where they are going to take the time out to develop your daughter. Another good but probably more expensive option would be to find a personal track and field trainer.
      Local track clubs are probably your best bet since you have the most freedom of choice.

    Crazy how I’m just seeing this but my GPA is 3.3 and I’m ranked the fastest sophomore in Pennsylvania and I am 7th in the nation for my class. I’m ranked 7th fastest in Pennsylvania so what are my chances. And what schools exactly

    • @MJPTV
      @MJPTV  3 роки тому +2

      You’re already on the right track! You have a good GPA already. Just make sure you go into college disciplined enough to get your work done on the road, with less time, and more distractions than the usual student.
      Being top 10 in your class is a sign you’re able to run at the NCAA level. I give you a 70% chance to run D1.
      Reach out to any school you want to go to. However the school you want to go to may not be recruiting your event this year.
      Reach out to schools in and outside of your area. Sometimes the program that really wants you won’t be close to home.
      Always go where they’ll treat you the best or where you have the biggest offer from. You never want to be the guy who’s just barely on the team it won’t be a good experience. But if you need to pay for school go where you have the best scholarship.
      Make sure to keep your options open and use wisdom when deciding where to go. Make sure if you’re unhappy for valid reasons after your first year or semester TRANSFER. Never stick around a bad program for any emotional reasons you have to look out for yourself.
      Hopefully this helps!

      Yeah you can’t worry about what other people are doing just stay relaxed in shoulders, hands, and jaw. You want to be as smooth as possible transitioning from your drive phase to your acceleration phase. Since you’re new to track once you get comfortable competing I think you’ll definitely have a shot at your school record.

      @@MJPTV Thanks man do you have any tips on how to stay relaxed I think that’s what I struggle with the most

    • @MJPTV
      @MJPTV  3 роки тому

      Take 2 deep breaths and tense your body up before you run and then release it. This should help with relaxation but don’t do it too much because you still need to push out. And keep things simple don’t focus on every little detail of sprinting go out there and run and have fun.
