- If you're using tracks on stage, what are you going to do when something goes wrong? You need a backup plan!
The PlayAudio12 from iConnectivity allows you to create a redundant Ableton Live rig.
This means, if one computer goes down, the other computer takes over immediately. Best of all, everything you need for a redundant rig is in one box.
Check out the video to learn how to setup your PlayAudio12 as a normal interface and how to use the PlayAudio12 for a redundant audio interface!

This is a fantastic workflow solution and highly accessible as well. Excellent tutorial!
Thanks Liam!
Awesome tips! Whats your workflow to always keep computer B updated with the latest changes in the ableton set?
Thanks!
Can I run a redundant rig with 2 different versions of a Macbook? For example a 2019 macbook pro and a 2012 macbook pro. Thanks
it may be out of context, but can i plug a focusrite in a Playaudio + pc and control everything from my playaudio12 ? i can't find the answer, it looks like nobody own this config and i'm looking for which audio interface could work with my plauaudio12 because it isn't enough but I want to keep it. Thank a lot for any answer
By any chance can I use 2 machines on the same scene if using all 10 outputs?
Is there a way to trigger 3 computers instead of 2 like this?
I'm using a Roland SPDSX to start/stop playback on Ableton and cycle through locators. However, when I connect the SPD into the host port of the Playaudio, Ableton no longer receives MIDI from the SPDSX. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here please?
iConnective PlayAUDIO12 it's amazing stuff! Can we have hope to see version with balansed XLR outs not TRS?
I really like that the Ethernet and Midi are all together in one on this device. But where oh where is the thunderbolt connectivity?
I think it’s very likely the next version will have type-C connectivity.
Hey ! thanks for this perfect tutorial. Does it work also in session mode ? I use Ableton Push as a player and i use session mode, do you think i can do redondondy ?
yes! It works with any DAW and would work in Session View just as well.
Is a redundant setup necessary? At our church, we have been using Live for about 10 months so far everything works well. However, I'm interested in the redundant setup for peace of mind if anything happens.
That’s a great question. It comes down to answering the question, what would you do if something went wrong? If you’re heavily dependent on tracks for a show, or have lots of automation programmed in, you need a backup, so that things keep cranking on if your computer fails. And ultimately, it’s like you said, it’s for the peace of mind as well.
@@fromstudiotostage we are dependent on tracks on a weekly basis, would not be a bad idea to have a backup.
(Also, this might not be the right place/video to ask this). We use propresenter to display lyrics and what not, but our screen sometimes glitches or goes haywire. We've tried every troubleshooting step we could find but it happens often that it is quite irritating now haha
Any suggestions?
Eh.. I’ve got no idea!
Hey man, thank you so much for all these great videos. Quick question, for Machine B, Do you use output 14 like you use 13 in Machine A?
Glad the videos help! You don’t need to use tone on machine b-only on machine a!
Any course on Abelton
My playaudio12 midi host doenst work properly. It seems like it doesnt have enough power to deliver to my midi controllers. It doenst matter which controller, midi keyboard or sd hardrive im using. Also a midi hub (anker 3.0 slim) doenst doenst solve the problem. Any solutions?
Thanks for this video. Just a question: does playaudio12 run on macOS Catalina?
Keep an eye on the iConnectivity site to see when they “officially” support Catalina
What are the I/O devices in the back/underneath the macbooks?
Here’s a list of all my gear: fromstudiotostage.com/gear/

Has anyone figured out a way to get an input into your machine? I know aggregate devices for mac, and breakthroughs for PC yet??
I got my A computer hooked up to port 1. But Ableton calls the output 'hst' in stead of usb101 (usb102 etc). How can I choose which laptop functions as master?
Just curious but what is the point of having multiple outputs on an interface like the iconnectivity PlayAUDIO12 ? I understand during a live performance with Ableton you could use the outputs as an individual pathway for a track. Is this true? Are you able to do this with 12 tracks ? allowing sound to come out of the PA in better quality? I play with 4 tracks coming out with one stereo input now from my Behringer um2 interface. When I play live my sound isn't as big as I want it to be. The percussion seems to lose its punch.
Thanks! Looking for advice here.
Not sure if this was said already, but I just wanna be able to use one computer running Ableton for show Stems using 1/2, 3/4 & 5/6 and my other computer running Mainstage 3 for live keys using 7/8. Is this possible?
Absolutely! You’ll just need to adjust routing in iConfig: fromstudiotostage.com/courses/7-using-the-playaudio12-as-an-interface-for-two-computers/
Can both laptops use the same channels on the audio interface?
@@fromstudiotostage is this still possible?
Can you play both machine at the same time ( one machine keys ) second machine triggering samples during a live song ....im stock on that part....PLEASE HELP ME WILL 😥
Is there a way to set this up without using an external MIDI controller?
You could sync computer 2 via MTC to computer 1, but it defeats the purpose slightly, because if computer 1 stops, so does 2. Using a MIDI Controller is the easiest way to get up and running. You could also sync both machines to another machine via MTC, but I’d always vote for using a MIDI controller for simplicity sake
@@fromstudiotostage Thank you!
Huge thanks to Will Doggett for this video. I know this video is pretty old, but I'm hoping to learn if it's possible to use THIS iconnectivity interface while simultaneously also using a regular Audio Interface for recording audio tracks. If not, is there any other device out there that allows you to connect the USB host(midi controller) to 2 separate computers simultaneously without taking up audio outputs?
Well, you could send the iconnectivity's outs to an audio splitter. Send one signal to the mixer and the other into your audio interface for recording.
