Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged - So good that I bought one myself! - Beards n Cars

- My coverage of the Jaguar XK on the main HSG Automotive channel is among the best known and most viewed of all my reviews, and for good reason.
The XKR is a fantastic car for the price, with prices severely undercutting many of its rivals from Aston Martin, Maserati and the like. This, combined with great looks, a relatively simple mechanical design which lends itself to reliability, and driving position which can easily accomodate even a large driver are all among the reasons why these X150 shape Jaguar's are so widely loved...

Absolute bulls-eye in your evaluation.
The downfall of these was the absence of an optional manual transmission.
Well Done.
I think the XKR-S GT would've been an ideal limited run manual version, given its the ultimate XK
Great review once again. I have the 4.2 na model and just love it. I also prefer the traditional gear shifter as I tend to rest my hand on it. I paid a lot more for mine but then it only had 23 k miles on the clock and is only 28k now
Ah nice, nice low miler, becoming a rare thing these days!
Love the Botanical Green you have in the thumbnail for this video. I've bought a 2007 XKR in that colour two years ago and haven't looked back. Well apart from every time I park up and have a second look over my shoulder. A future classic.
It is a surprisingly rare colour on a number of Jags given how subtle but classy it looks. Same on the last QP I had in Goodwood green which was a far rarer colour than the obvious blues and blacks but looked amazing
Very good review! I understand that Jags are not about trunk and backseats, but it would be cool if you showed a little bit more of interior.
Best wishes
The trunk and rear seats are actually the reason why I ultimately moved on from mine. Excellent as a GT or toy, not so much as a daily with space needs as mine was needed for. Outstanding cars for the money though

Can’t stop looking at the fuel gauge every time you put your foot down 😊
Haha yeah. To be fair these aluminium cars aren't bad on fuel for what they are. I used to average about 23 mpg in mine split pretty evenly between city and open road driving
Do you think it’s possible to modify the previous model (XK100) 4.2 Supercharged to handle in a similar way to this car?
If cost isn't an issue then most likely yeah. I'd probably focus on lowering the ride height a little, drop some unnecessary weight where possible, stiffer springs and dampers, and perhaps fitting upgraded sway bars in the front and back. You would end up spending about as much as just buying one of these X150's of course, but for an ardent X100 fan it should be entirely doable.
Even Jaguar themselves made an XKR-R Concept with roll cage etc, so they did consider it...
If you get one, you’ve Gotta go for the 5 L far superior
You look so adorable
Haha thanks baba x
