I’m shocked that this isn’t one of the most popular of Shostakovich’s string quartets….Personally it’s my absolute favorite of them because of the sheer depth and variety. Also, while this quartet is great I highly recommend the Pavel Haas Quartet’s recording
Beautiful. The 2nd movement (1st adagio) is the most somber mood so far (of the 1st two quartets), deeply moving in places, apparently influenced by DS's wartime experience.
Maybe slightly more conservative than the 1st quartet but beatiful. Sometimes Shostakovich comes near Central Asia, this piece being one of such cases. A wonderful piece and rendition anyway.
The ending of this quartet is my absolute favorite part. The last minute plus is so passionate and powerful. It really fills me with such emotion.
Thx, u made me listen to the very end xD

It is sheer brilliance, not recognizable for everybody
2nd move...The violin solo of the beginning . Breathtaking
I: Overture (Moderato con moto) 0:01
II: Recitative and Romance (Adagio) 8:28
III: Valse (Allegro) 18:35
IV: Theme and Variations (Adagio) 24:04

Magnificent! The slow movement was exquisitely done
Excellent performance.
От начала и до конца захватывает и держит
With a razor they cut through the delicious pie. Jeruzalem quartet chapeau !

Amazing Performance! The 1st mvt sounds like traditional folk music.
Only if you don't know any real traditional folk music. Beautiful anyway.
you might feel that way because of that chords which don't have 3th note
5:28

Definitely not more conservative than the first. This piece reflects Shostakovich’s matured dark and edgy style as it is from his middle period.
34:20 haha viola player just skipped 6 measures!
just in the most important solo jaja
that's something I would have done. Start making stuff up.
