Hey guys! I just remastered the audio in this jam to make my voice louder and dampen the jet noise. I'm not sure what happened on the first take, but II think it sounds a lot better now. What do you think? Cheers! Click here for my merch! crowdmade.com/collections/growler-jams Thanks for all the support. I never thought this channel would take off so quickly. I recently updated the description for the video to account for a lot of the questions. If you like the videos, please "like", comment, and subscribe. Cheers!
Excellent. I have acute Tinnitus which makes some YT videos difficult to understand, especially those with Muzak mixed with the narration. I could hear everything you said thank you.
Definite improvement. Regards ambient noise: I believe all relevant ambient sound is a major component of interest provided that audio is well below voice when vocals are keyed.
Absolutely!! There is no random placement for duty on a carrier. These soldiers have proven themselves repeatedly before chosen. They r a very focused and professional group of people.
I’m an old retired U.S. Army Black Hawk pilot and I remain in awe of carrier operations. Thanks for sharing, thank you for your service and God Bless🙏🏿!
Love the way you talk us through this! I retired from the Navy after 26 years. I spent 4 years on board USS Forrestal CV59. That was her classification when I went in 1979…loved carrier duty! I retired as a chief boatswains mate. Thank you for your service!
I contribute a lot to a question and answer platform. One question was (as I paraphrase here) are all sailors capable of fighting fires on a ship and on the flight deck in particular? I explained that shipboard fires are serious business and that all sailors go through shipboard fire fighting training and the flight deck crew in particular train on aircraft fires as well. I explained it's literally an "all hands on deck" event. I used your ship with photos to show how serious it is and the damage it can cause. I wonder if they still show the film for training?
My Dad was a WWII Navy carrier pilot and involved in the invasion of Southern France. It started shortly after D-day as no aircraft carriers were directly involved in Operation Overlord. He passed a couple of years ago, so I enjoy these carrier pilot videos. Thanks for the channel.
Just unbelievable,it’s like all us viewers are in the back seat flying with you!! When you make it out here to Maui, It will be an honor to buy you a beer sir🤙🏽
I love to watch and just listen to your jams so much. When listening to, I can forget about everything and just imagine myself in what you are telling us about. In a Growler most of the time and that's really cool and amazing. 👌🏻👊🏻💯💯💯💥 ....just forget about everything else, and imagine the cool things. Thank you.🫶🏻💋💋❤️❤️❤️
My father was a CB Chief stationed at Kingsville ( In charge of the Hobby Shop). I saw the Blue Angles perform there in I am guessing 1959. I was a MM on the USS Sample DE 1048 and we operated on Yankee Station with the Oriskany plane guarding, upon his passing I was transferred by helo to the Oriskany then catapulted off on a COG to Da Nang, remember that like it was yesterday and I was told it was half power, C130 to Clark AFB, MAC flight to West coast, a AF Generals DC 3 to San Antonio, commercial to New Orleans. The Navy got me home. Great video and brought back a lot of memories of Kingsville and Yankee Station. Thank you for being out there doing what you do, it is amazing.
My uncle Jack piloted the F4 phantom in Vietnam, I was 9 in 1969 when he was on leave for the holidays, I was in awe and wanted to ask him questions, but he didn't really talk about it, it's a treat to see the operations of your carrier, you guys protecting our great nation is comforting, thank God to you and all who serve.🇺🇸
I want to pass on a big time thank you for these videos. I’m a DC (Docent Candidate) on the USS Midway museum in San Diego. I am one of a small percentage of candidates that are not veterans of the Navy. My father was a Navy veteran and I have a son in the Coast Guard and I have always had a great appreciation and respect for those who served in the armed forces. My wife’s grandfather was a highly decorated Marine and Medal of honor recipient and at 65 years old I figured this is my way of giving back just a little for the sacrifices my father, son and my wife’s father and grandfather made for my freedom. I find your videos an indispensable training tool for my Docent program specifically on cats and traps talks with many keys on PriFly and other aspects of flight operations on board an aircraft carrier. Thank you for these incredible videos and for your service.
I have watched these so many times and STILL to this day I get emotional the moment you are launched. Something about the power of it all is just so cool.
I love these videos. The flight deck crews are amazing, and remind me of an old advertising campaign here in Australia for the RAN in the early 1980s. “You’ll be wet, you’ll be homesick and frightened but the pride of the fleet will be you!”(search that up on UA-cam) We even had a CATOBAR carrier back then too, until 1982… a whopping 20,000 tons full load displacement with one cat and A-4s and S-2s which barely fitted… 😂 I joined up anyway later in the 80s…
I served in the Coast Guard and wow nothing what the Navy pilots represent. Thank you for this video and ALL the crew of the carrier. Absolutely amazing what you do. Thanks for your service !
Brilliant again Pail and thanks for an insight into your work. Truly enjoyed and amazed at you getting your jet of the ship..Good health to you and your family. Tom, Galway, Ireland.
That was certainly a nice surprise on this Saturday morning that there is a new voiceover from Pail! 👏Again, it was super interesting to learn all the details (like for example the position of the ship in regard to the wind, etc..). Thanks and keep up your good work, we really appreciate it!🙂
Thanks, enjoy your commentary. Many years ago worked for a defense contractor, we built the displays for the original Hornets. Saw them in the shop, nice to see them where they belong
I loved the C2 Greyhound. We were doing exercises down in GITMO, and we had to come back to the ship after 10 days training. Our group loaded into a C2 and we landed aboard the carrier. Was a unique experience seeing the long wake of the ship, and it was just a tiny sliver, then all of a sudden, you're yanked to a stop. Most of us had the same thought when we first saw the carrier so far out from us: "Are we going to really land, on THAT"? lol
I was an ABH yellow shirt in Fly1 on this very deck back in the early 90's. When people asked what I did in the Navy, I would say I had one of the few enlisted jobs where an officer had to do what I said or he might get in trouble.😂
I love these videos. I used to enjoy my father's stories from when he worked on the wooden flight deck of the USS Wasp in the mid 50s. One night the entire flight deck caught fire when a Grumman AF (anti-sub plane) made a hard landing and ruptured its fuel tanks. I believe they sailed to Japan, where the deck got re-planked with teak.
Once again…so easy to listen to and so descriptive. Love all your videos, but your voice over videos really really rock! Absolutely amazing to feel like we are all right beside you!
So great to see these "GROWLER" videos! A friend, CDR Pete Fey (EWO) was involved with the Growler training program at NAS Fallon when it was the replacement for the EA-6B (VAQ-135 Black Ravens) he had flown from NAS Whidbey. As a Helo Aviator (U.S. ARMY), I had flown onto the deck of The Enterprise, a Destroyer and a guided missile frigate when stationed in Danang. Just can't imagine the unleashed power of a catapult launch during heavy seas while conducting combat ops?
Excellent video, as always. Thanks for making the video as a single shot without interval edits. While it makes the video longer, WE DON'T CARE. We're interested in seeing ALL of what's going on. You do a very nice job of filling 'dead time' with lots of good information. The nice thing about voice over is you can minimize exterior noise (don't ever cut it out completely) and adjust voice so it can be easily understood. Voice over also allows for calm (unpanicked) presentation. And don't EVER add music UNLESS (maybe) you're making a nice relaxing scenery video such as through clouds during a beautiful sunset or over mountains or the Grand Canyon, etc. You're videos are setting a new 'high mark' for everyone else. (You'll NEVER be able to make enough of them to satisfy we aviation nuts!)
Thank you Lawrence - I agree with everything you say. Pail’s videos are the best technically and in terms of explaining the immense challenges of carrier ops.
Wow! Thanks, Pail. I've spent many hours up on vultures row watching flight ops and WFOR televised most of the trap action. I also came aboard via COD. I love your narrations. Thanks again.
First of all I would like to thank you for having such a wonderful, understandable pronunciation. I am watching from Germany and occasionally have problems understanding you Americans. But you I understand very well. I have learned a lot and find what they report and explain incredibly interesting.I'll keep watching and my beer invitation will keep growing. Soon we'll have a case of beer together 😂
Great video, thank you! I love the very detailed explanations, which are great for someone like me who knows nothing about aviation, but loves to watch these magnificent jets, and admires the pilots who fly them. I can't even comprehend the amount of intelligence, knowledge, courage and ability required to fly these airplanes, as well as the people who assist on the ground.
As a commercial pilot (777) this is fascinating. Procedurally the pace etc is similar but the proximity of other aircraft and operation is so different! Amazing videos
Love the commentary mate, it’s awesome to know what happens at that point. I’ve watch quite a few of these types of vids and nothing is explained. Keep up the good work. Thank you for doing what you do for the human race. ❤
You make everything so clear that you go through on takeoff. Really enjoy your narration and description of other things happening on deck. Really well done, sir!
I just love these voiceover videos! Your channel is fantastic and your videos are beautiful but these are special. Thanks for letting us have a peek inside & keep up the good work!
@@GrowlerJams the thing I like about your videos is getting that glimpse into what a pilot "just does". It's of course a lot of skill & training, yes! But a lot of " hurry up and wait" on the day to day. I appreciate your commentary of the what and why of that! You can take me up in the back seat of your Growler or even a T-45 - anytime! #bucketlist
Hi PAIL, first, thank you for what you do. Also, thank you for these amazing videos. My dad was on a Mitchell B-25 crew in North Africa during WW II (Army AIr Corps). After the war, he worked at Jax NAS as a civil engineer, so I grew up around aviation. I have always been interested in what exactly goes on during a Cat launch, and your videos are right on point. Due to an injury at age 3, I could not join the military. But through your amazing videos I can experience what goes on during a launch and a recovery. Thanks again, keep them comming!
Been around the military and planes (Air Force dependent from Patrick AFB to Wright Patt AFB ) for 50 yrs and these are some of the best if not the best actual explanation and description flight vids I have seen! Thank you.
Dear GJ, Thank you for recognising my comment! As a child I was fascinated with reading books and also watched the very few available news reels on British TV of the WW2 US Air Force daylight raids on Nazi Germany and later aircraft carrier pilots taking off in the Pacific Ocean to take on the formidable Imperial Japanese Navy. I’m in awe and comforted that the Grumman Hellcats and Corsairs I remember leaving the flight decks appears the same way you do today, with steam driven catapults and clearly recognisable body language/signals from the motivated ground crew! Let alone the balls to sit behind the controls! There appears to be the same fearless approach to duty and dedication to the profession. In the past canopies would be open, arm’s relaxed and take off like it’s just a Sunday afternoon cruise in the car! It really looks the same today but I’m sure so much more regimented. Rock on 🤘 Many thanks Ian
I know how much work it is to record, edit and post videos - so thanks for doing it. As one of many who watch, I dreamed of your job as a child and even as an adult. I have a sincere respect for how much is put on your shoulders as a pilot, the expectation to perform, compete, etc. Enjoy the commentary insight as you conduct your carrier ops. Overall your videos are a little long in the groove, but overall - OK.
Lots of fun to watch your videos. My successor as Civil Air Patrol squadron commander is a retired F-14 RIO and TOPGUN graduate. He has some great stories about his carrier days. The Cessna 172 we fly these days is pretty tame compared to a Tomcat, but flying is flying. Give me wings and an engine or two, and I’m a happy camper.
I’m new! I’m a big fan! Grew up my dad was a pilot, I flew right seat until I was about 17. I loved my dad explaining what he was doing and why. I never got my license but I am a fan of the process! Dad would be proud! Thanks!
Hey there Pail. Love the "signature moves". I've been watching a while and look forward to your postings. "Little bit more .. little bit more .. there we go". So enjoyable to know what is going through your head as we watch. Calm but focused. Sometime, tell us about your first carrier landing and the emotions you went through.
Man, I commented on a video earlier today. I’m glad to see that such a capable young man is passing on your knowledge to the next class of pilots. You seem like you’re a great instructor. Much love from North Carolina and thank you all for your service. You have the best job in the world 🤙🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸
No matter how many times I've watched your jams, I still love to watch them all over again and again. 🩷 I love the new ones as well, but I sure don't wanna forget the older ones either. 🤗 In fact, I love to watch your Jams more and more each day. 💯💋💜💜💜 Mukavaa lokakuista viikonloppua. 🍻🌞
All American's should watch videos like this. Watching this gives me great respect and confidence in our military and especially in our fighter pilots. Beyond impressive. Shows that these pilots are intelligent, rational and cool headed soldiers and it strips the negative "Iceman" stereotypes that are seen in the movies.
@@GrowlerJams I too missed hearing the parts in the marriage vows about the wife's duty to constantly keep me in check and humble. But it must of been there because my wife has held her obligation sacred. lol
I retired from flying the tomcat but you bring back so many memories as a navy pilot launching from an aircraft carrier especially landing and launching at night in adverse weather conditions man I miss them days and nights, you stay safe👍🏿👍🏿
Damn. I love your nice calming voice. I just started dating a Naval aviator (E-2 Hawkeye) and I have so much respect for her. But she has some PTSD after an incident, so as much as I want to learn more from her, I leave it to her what she was wants to talk about. It is a demanding job and I have so much respect for you guys.
Great video. I was on the USS Independence for 4 years working part of that time in Air Ops typing up relaunch briefs to the ready rooms and writing backwards on status boards. Great to see what you were doing up on my roof.
THE POWER at the launch make me thrust back in my chair so wonderful to hear and see what is going on around you thank you from trev in sussex UK STAY SAFE AND WELL
Watching these videos takes the sting out of paying taxes. To Provide for the common defense. Me being a 35yr Army Vet Retired I love my fellow brothers in arms. Great footage sir. Thank you for your service.
Just to let you know: I checked out an F-18 video about a week ago then the next day YT started suggesting your videos pretty aggressively, glad they did!.
Your commentary is excellent! Very much enjoy all the details you give - from the actions you take to the signals given by the deck crew. I almost feel like I would know what to do.......ALMOST!!!! Thanks for letting the camera roll - did not mind the delays at all. Especially when you gave us the explanation for it. And, if you were ever to come to my home town, where they have an Air Show every year, I'd buy you a beer anytime!
That was amazing! Seeing how technical it is and everyone’s placement and responsibility was cool to see. No one’s just on the deck. Very specific purposes. Very cool
Good stuff. Thanks, Growler Jams. No loud rock music, no shouting, no RAH RAH RAH fist pumping crap! Just a navy pilot doing his job and describing what he's doing. Fueling up in a banked turn, manouvering on Mom's (🙂) deck or waiting for a cat launch, and I understand only a little of the pilot stuff you say, but I appreciate all of it (I noticed your mention of NW US berry fruit production - hope the growers did too). I like your approach - "I'm just a jock with a job to do, these are the things I do and this is how I do them. But don't forget! I'm Navy. And I'm a pilot." [Edit] And after watching a couple more times, thanks again - how do re-views help you out? Maybe I should leave a second comment? I like your stuff, Growler Jams.
Great stuff. Always wanted to be a naval aviator. Unfortunately I couslnt pass their test so I ended up getting my private all the way up to twin commercial floats and instruments and flew in hawaii and alaska. Thanks for your service and keep the videos coming
Man i am loving these vids as a new viewer .The term "Keeping your head on a swivel" never seemed more appropriate than flight deck ops, Kudos to ALL involved, stay safe.
Thank you very much for your captions, love & appreciate them!!👍🏼👍🏼❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for explaining the LSO, I've had it wrong (my bad), but now it's corrected. Your captions are a big help! 🤗
Loving the signature move.. I do the same but in my car.its a lower back problem I have so I'm always conscious of sitting up properly when I feel I am slumping. Keep up the good work Pail!
Great video Audio was well done What struck me was how FREAKING LONG, it takes the flight deck crew to set up, check and recheck the "Cat" I totally admire the dedication and skills but jeezuz your flight was sitting in the chock for almost 10 minutes Anyway, great job, thanks to you and all aboard for serving

Due to an injury at age 3, I could not join the military. But through your amazing videos I can experience what goes on during a launch and a recovery. Thanks again, keep them comming!
Cheers!
Been around the military and planes (Air Force dependent from Patrick AFB to Wright Patt AFB ) for 50 yrs and these are some of the best if not the best actual explanation and description flight vids I have seen! Thank you.
Cheers!
As mellow and calm as you are I hope you go on to be a flight instructor, you could teach anyone to fly! Just discovered this channel, awesome vids!
I’m currently a flight instructor. Thanks.
Dear GJ,
Thank you for recognising my comment!
Rock on 🤘
Many thanks
Ian
Cheers, Ian!
These videos are so cool. Your commentary is so laid back whilst my blood pressure goes through the roof with excitement.
Man, I commented on a video earlier today. I’m glad to see that such a capable young man is passing on your knowledge to the next class of pilots. You seem like you’re a great instructor. Much love from North Carolina and thank you all for your service. You have the best job in the world 🤙🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸
Cheers!!
No matter how many times I've
watched your jams, I still love
to watch them all over again
and again. 🩷
I love the new ones as well,
but I sure don't wanna forget
the older ones either. 🤗
In fact, I love to watch
your Jams more and more
each day. 💯💋💜💜💜
Mukavaa lokakuista viikonloppua.
I wish my wife agreed with you...
@@GrowlerJams I too missed hearing the parts in the marriage vows about the wife's duty to constantly keep me in check and humble. But it must of been there because my wife has held her obligation sacred. lol
There is badass and there is BADASS! Carrier fighter pilots , a breed apart
Hi Pail, I spent 3 yrs on the USS Ranger watching flight ops. Your videos have a lot of informative detail. Excellent job.!
Thanks!
Had to say, "signature move" myself through the whole video.
😂
Great video and explanations! I think you did a great job. Please, how about a hundred more!
I retired from flying the tomcat but you bring back so many memories as a navy pilot launching from an aircraft carrier especially landing and launching at night in adverse weather conditions man I miss them days and nights, you stay safe👍🏿👍🏿
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing your experience and giving us the front seat row!!
As usual, excellent video. Both informative and loads of fun to watch. Thanks for posting and for your service.
Love these videos and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE PAIL! GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA
TYFYS.
Holy crap these are soooo cool!! My wife served on the Nimitz and we love watching these! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!🇺🇸
Thanks!
Thank you. I appreciate the support.
Thank you for your service to America and keep them coming.
Just to let you know: I checked out an F-18 video about a week ago then the next day YT started suggesting your videos pretty aggressively, glad they did!.
Welcome aboard.
Fantastic as always pail. Great to fly with you. All the best from the UK.
Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was amazing! Seeing how technical it is and everyone’s placement and responsibility was cool to see. No one’s just on the deck. Very specific purposes. Very cool
Great job on the redo Pail! Such an awesome video. Always look forward to these. Thanks for sharing!! Fly Navy!!
I'm Navy. And I'm a pilot."
[Edit] And after watching a couple more times, thanks again - how do re-views help you out? Maybe I should leave a second comment? I like your stuff, Growler Jams.
Re-views are great. Comments and shares help a lot. Cheers!
Thank you So much for this! I spent 4 months on the Ike for chute certification and I NEVER got tired of watching the lunches! New subscriber!
Great stuff. Always wanted to be a naval aviator. Unfortunately I couslnt pass their test so I ended up getting my private all the way up to twin commercial floats and instruments and flew in hawaii and alaska. Thanks for your service and keep the videos coming
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ videos Pail! Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Good Stuff! Thanks for sharing! From NW Pennsylvania! Thank YOU
For Your Services!
God Bless
Brilliant, instructive, fascinating - thank you for showing us your amazing profession!
There is a reason Navel Aviators are THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!!
Loving the signature move.. I do the same but in my car.its a lower back problem I have so I'm always conscious of sitting up properly when I feel I am slumping.
Keep up the good work Pail!
Another great video. It's always impressive watching going off the end of the carrier. What a rush. Thanks for What you do.
As always a real joy to watch, the commentary makes all the difference though, excellent, thank you. 🙂
Great video of some of what is involved in getting a jet safely off the deck and flying.
Great video
Audio was well done
What struck me was how FREAKING LONG, it takes the flight deck crew to set up, check and recheck the "Cat"
I totally admire the dedication and skills but jeezuz your flight was sitting in the chock for almost 10 minutes
Anyway, great job, thanks to you and all aboard for serving
Your videos have always been enjoyable however, the voiceover makes everything so much more interesting. Thanks. Stay safe.🇦🇺
Thanks, Ken.
