Google Pixel 8 Pro Camera Review vs Pixel 8 | Worth that £300 Extra?

  • Reviewing the Google Pixel 8 Pro camera vs the regular Pixel 8, testing the difference in photo and video quality and features. Google's latest 2023 flagships boast dependable camera tech but the Pixel 8 Pro is more powerful, best for shooting kids, pets etc.
For the hardware, both phones serve up the same 50MP Octa PD primary sensor with OIS. However, the ultra-wide sensors are different and the Pixel 8 Pro also boasts an upgraded focus and 48MP telephoto camera. This means the Pro is superior for zoom photos as well as capturing portrait shots. That said, I did still see some borky portraits from this Google phone, which will hopefully be sorted in an update.
Likewise, the Pixel 8 Pro serves up more manual controls and a high resolution mode (which I haven't found too helpful so far, but maybe you have?) And you can also expect a video boost feature before the end of 2023, courtesy of a Google update, for improved night video.
The Pixel 8 series offers excellent editing tools, many of them AI led. Best Take, Audio Enhancement and Magic Editor are all well worth exploring inside the Google Photos app. Frankly, they're the best reason to own a Pixel 8 Pro or the regular mini model, as they're incredibly addictive!

I wish Google gave us all the features on the smaller phone. No matter how good the pro is, i will never buy it just because of its size

@@VideosHuerfanitos Ur right, seems like there will be 3 phones next year. İ hope they follow through with that plan. Also they should extend software support to 5 years for Pixel 6/7 line and offer better trade in deals. Doing these, will make the rise to the top.

    It’s funny.
I remember back in the Pixel 2 days, Google used as a selling point that they offered the same on the 2 and 2 XL, comparing it to what the iPhone was doing with the 8 and 8 Plus…
    Look at them now.

That’s why they named the bigger one XL in early phones. Now they have to differentiate the Pro.

Thank you so much for this review. I am going to upgrade tomorrow and was not sure which one to get. I am a photography nut so it was great to see the difference in the two. I also liked that the pro was slightly larger. I am definitely leaning towards the pro now. I have the 7 pro now. Thanks again for helping me see the differences between the 8 and the 8 pro.

Great test, not so biassed as from some of the others. You had been wondering, if viewers would appreciate the higher resolution...
Well, two reasons: If you are creating a professional looking photo you`d like to upload for sale on those certain portals, its helpful to have a higher resolution than 12 mp. (thats the one and only! good point about the new iphone 15 max, those 24 mp with the technical trick they are using. (stagging several pixel-binned colour-pix and then put a black and white full-resolution, full readout picture on top, which gives that detailed look, good idea) Wished Google pixel or Samsung would incorporate that technique as well.
Second though and most important for "normal" people: when you share photos on a phone or tablet, everyone finds some details in the picture (usual themself) and then instinctively crops in with their fingers to see more details, if the make up or their teeth looked decent...
Thats fun to do and is almost useless with a 12 mp photo.
I hope, Google sticks to their promises and provides us with quick and good updates regarding the juddery video-zoom changes and other little quirks, that are normal at the beginning. At least they do have the hardware thats sufficient, unlike Apple that disappoints basically all the way for this sort of flagship.

5:43 I would love to see an upgrade where the phone makes a few photos with a different focus and brightness to make a photo where a source of light e.g., the moon would be well visible as well as the rest of the environment, sky.
When we focus on the source of light e.g. moon, the Pixel camera can take a nice photo but everything else is almost black. When we want to take a sky photo, the moon or any other source of light is just a white point.
It would have way more usage than all those AI-empowered, cutting tools, imo.

I just received my 1st pixel phone. It's annoying that you can't remove that Google bar at the bottom. ppff. But my question is; how do you remove the date and degrees at the top left? That doesn't work here? I am new to pixel software.
What I also notice, I have had the Samsung S23 and the Ultra and the OnePlus 11 and I notice that these smartphones work smoother.
I also stutter on Twitter and some other apps, how is this possible? ppf. I hate it.
I also have a football app called sofascore, I have already deleted the app; I can't even log in lol. And yes, everything is correct, with the OnePlus 11 that I have had for an hour, it works without any problem.
Not so positive here so far. Samsung and Oneplus are smoother. I'll give it some time, but if there are no improvements, the pixel will quickly be exchanged or sold.

Why do you film your videos in 25 fps?
I want to understand youtuber's rationale, since most devices use 60Hz screens, so it would be logical to film in either 30 or 60 fps for smooth playback with no judder.
Is light flickering such a big issue, that can't be resolved when filming in 30 fps?

@@thestringquartetcompany but we're not in the movie theater? I would understand if most screens worked at multiples of 24/25 refresh rate, but the mismatch of frame presentation on 60hz screens makes it worse than actual 24/25 fps due to unstable frame pacing.

    • @igoresque
      @igoresque 8 місяців тому

It also makes presentation of phone video recording much worse, especially if you want to see how well stabilization works.
The vast majority of phones can record 30, but not 24/25, so converting phone footage down to 24/25 will introduce its own frame pacing issues.
Therefore, you get even more judder when presenting 30 fps recording in 25 fps video on a 60 Hz screen.

My oppo has a higher resolution display, still has 120hz yes might not be as bright at 1200nits peak , has 48mp sensors that I can utilise fully without software locks on the 8 also most of pixels camera appeal is post processing, has 12gb of ram (15gb sharing memory) that I can increase even more if needed (not that you need it). Obviously the tensor G3 is faster as it's 3 years newer but in reality it won't really make much of a difference day to day to an average user.
