    I've been researching awhile and just want to say how much I appreciate your in depth care coverage!
    My son has been asking for one for over a year now. His birthday is coming up and it's finally going to happen for him. 🤗
    PS: Before people yell at me for gifting a kid an animal I just want to say he was born into multispecies animal husbandry and LOVES researching so he knew more about lizards than I did by the time he was 8. I made him do a trial run caring for many of my critters and he absolutely nailed the responsibility. And just incase I am clearly also researching plus totally prepared to take it on in the event my son doesn't take it with him when he moves out...so the crestie has fall back care. Relax ❤

    Nice video. Just wanted to mention for anyone considering uvb that it does not pass through glass so sitting in front of a window, having a glass tank cover, etc defeats the purpose. Even a screen cover will block it somewhat. I don't use it for my crested, but learned this in the past with other critters that needed it.

Would love to see more videos of gathering eggs, talking about the stuck shed, babies hatching, looking at the juveniles in the shoebox enclosures, raising the dubias. I hate feeding the crickets and have found that she doesn’t always want them and then they end up dying in a day or two even if I threw in some veggies. Feeding your juveniles and adults dubias 😅. Everything in this vid is pretty solid info but the tank size is way too small, yea it works but imagine living in a 1 bed 1/2 bath studio apartment. It's too small, minimum is 12x12x18 for babies, 18x18x24 for juveniles, and 24x24x36 adult. Yea they can survive in a 16 gal and it's fine for juveniles but you choose how they live. So they can survive or thrive it's up to you on how they live.

    Awesome video you’re definitely my go to guy for info about cresties now. But 2 questions. I know cresties need tall enclosures but if i got one that’s wide but also decently tall would that still be okay? The length is 48’’ and the height is 21.’’ My other question was how can i keep the humidity steady? My current cage has like ventilation at the top and a clear plastic cover you can put on to keep humidity. But i keep spraying and it’ll go down within a few hours.

    • @tmreptile

      Thanks so much! That means a lot! Thanks for watching the video and thanks for the feedback!
      That should be big enough for sure!
      And as far as keeping the humidity high, that’s kinda what you want to happen. You want it to spike when you spray and slowly have a chance to dry before you spray again. Generally misting 1-2 times a day (depending on how wet it is) works very well for them!

      Good question haha. I would say (as with any animal) constant loud noise would be stressful. But if you have them in a different room, I don’t think it would be too loud for them unless everyone in the house is yelling 😂

      Congrats on your first one!! Very cool
      Laying on the ground is common for sure. Mine lay in different spots all the time. As far as falling off the glass, do you have branches/climbing objects throughout the tank? Some are bad climbers though so if you’re including climbing branches then you should be good!

    How important is routine for your crested geckos specifically? Like I feed him and handle him regularly but what about cleaning his enclosure. I clean it during the day when he's asleep so I inevitably wake him up, is that ok or should I do it t night when he's awake? Does it matter?

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  4 місяці тому +4

      I would try and stick with a similar routine but I don’t think it needs to be exact. As far as cleaning I think you can do it whenever you want. I find mine are more active at night and sleepy during the day so I like to clean during the day so they aren’t as crazy. It also helps to work with them during the day so they’re sleepier.

      @@1rfisher Are you doing everything I recommended in the how I care for baby crested geckos video?
      I don’t feed them off of a spoon everytime. Hardly ever actually. I give them the chance to find food in the water bottle cap on their own. I hardly ever hand feed anymore.
      If you’re noticing poop everywhere, it means they’re eating. You might not always be able to tell from their food bowl that they’re eating.
      As far as insects, maybe try starting a dubia roach colony if you don’t like crickets?

    Lots of great info, pretty much only thing I disagree with is 66 quarts is about 16 gallons of space, minimum for an adult is 30 gallons. In fact, the new minimum as per the british herpetological society is closer to 50 gallons which more american hobbyists are beginning to agree with as well. I appreciate you emphasizing the importance of enrichment but there's no way I'd be able to keep an adult crested gecko in anything less than a 30 gallon (1.5 x 1.5 x 2 ft). I know breeders prioritize saving space over proper enclosure size but figured I should mention it for anyone thinking they should keep their gecko in something of that size.

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  3 місяці тому +2

      The tanks are 23 inches by 16 inches by 13 inches. I wish they were taller but I think these work great. Especially how I use them. Lots of enrichment by adding tons of climbing branches and plants
      Most breeders (including very well know people) use 55 qt totes and house trios in there. That’s what’s wild to me.

    • @Rsheissekopf
      @Rsheissekopf 3 місяці тому +1

      @@tmreptile I agree that breeders keeping multiple geckos (or any gecko at all) in something of that size is completely inappropriate. In terms of breeders you're obviously doing better than a lot of them with regards to keeping the animals together only to breed and giving them enrichment as well as a larger enclosure than a lot would. However the fact is that the size of that enclosure is not appropriate for an adult crested gecko which is my point for people watching this video (especially kids or people looking into getting their first gecko) thinking they can keep it in a 15 gallon tank/bin.

    • @Rsheissekopf
      @Rsheissekopf 3 місяці тому +1

      @@tmreptile Sure, I guess. Though it is well established in herp keeping communities that a 30 gallon is minimum tank size for a crested gecko, just like a 20 gallon long is the minimum tank size for a leopard gecko (though many prefer roughly 40 gallons as the ideal size these days). I think every care guide from the last several years will tell you the same thing. Back when I got my crested gecko the min was 18x18x24 inches (30 gallons) and that was 10 years ago.

    • @tmreptile
      @tmreptile  3 місяці тому +2

      @@Rsheissekopf I’m giving them 368 square inches of floor space while an 18 x 18 x 24 is giving 324 square inches. Not to mention I think I plan my tanks out well as far as branches and climbing space because of the lack of height. I’d prefer my tanks to be a little taller so hopefully one day they’ll make a taller version. But what I have going now is definitely big enough for 1 adult crested gecko in my opinion. Not to mention I don’t stick to the norm as far as gecko breeding and some of the tanks others have. I have significantly more enrichment. The only complaint I have is wishing the height was taller. But it’s definitely okay for 1 crested gecko imo
