how are you making small objects rotate in 3d but they're just a shape layer

It's connected to a Null object that has a 3D rotation. Then the circles are parented to that null object and as a consequence they follow the null rotation. Don't forget to make all layers a 3D layer. That said, mine animation broke down when I wanted to auto-orient my circles to the camera while spinning. Now only one moves, but is broken. The others are standing still.
