I haven't been to the Crick Show for a couple of years because it's much the same each time but this year I wanted to book some boat tours and also buy some bits for my current boat - so I moored the boat again and headed off to Northamptonshire in the camper van.

Theme music: "Vespers" by Topher Mohr and Alex Alena, from the UA-cam music library
Loved showing you round NB Sea Glass David. You should defo write your book soon, (Kindle, self-published), sell it to millions of fans all around the world, become a multi-millionaire and buy a new narrowboat with a massive freezer full of ice cream and ice cubes 👍
Sounds like a plan! Thanks for having us aboard!
yes he will have fun doing both.
Writing a canal book would be a great idea!
He looks so pleased with that freezer refrigerator combo, it is probably the happiest I have ever seen him. He lights up when he talks about it
I definitely could see how a small freezer could change one's life for the better, i.e. ice cream, ice and frozen food. Since I've never lit an oven with a match, every time David lights the oven I get nervous. Maybe next time an oven that you turn the knob and it lights itself would be another good purchase. Albeit not as glorious as a freezer.
I do love your gentle tones and pace of speech. It is very calming. Great to watch these late in the evening before bed to relax and have something enjoyable to end a day with.
That custom "cottage style" boat was beautiful!
Considering the fact that I'm broke, and wanting a narrow boat, this was slightly torturous to watch. On the flip side, it has given me great motivation to becoming not broke so I can enjoy a narrow boat. Anyways, enjoyed the vlog. Keep up the cruise and fair travels.
"I don't like these, but I'm generally wrong about most things." Perhaps the most relatable quote I've encountered in years.
Also, very enjoyable and well put together video, as usual. The wide beams seem to be designed for the "I'm SO rich..." crowd, although the ability to invite a small village on board might be nice. The batteries are something I'll be looking forward to hearing more about. Thanks again.
It's fun to wander into people's homes and see how they've decorated. It makes me want to embark on redecorating my own place. Great vlog!
Thanks for taking viewers to the Crick Show! It has been fine seeing what the modern canal boat industry has on offer. Lately, I have wondered WHY canal boats do not ALL use cameras to aid steering and possibly avoiding obstacles in the water. Anyway, this video is on my replay list. The interior of reclaimed wood is stunning.
Indeed David also in this hectic corner of the world, where your first name comes from, people like your videos.
They are of the highest professional quality and most instructive.
Sadly we don't have the waterways you have got.
Have a pleasant weekend - UY
For some ridiculous reason I am addicted to keeping track of all the domestic and international stupidity/chaos created by our world leaders, which make me very depressed. However, at a certain point I realize I have to move back into reality, and David's videos relax and bring me back into the world of sanity/reality. Keep the good work going David.
Ditto - you could bill by ‘Vlog therapy packages in these trying times of ours’ ... but in the meantime I look forward to your book!
I agree wholeheartedly! I have been running through all these kind of videos.
Wow you've been going without ice cream this hole time! I would have thrown that refrigerator overboard a long time ago.
Your excitement about the freezer was so cute.
Err Wife? Great vlog didn't really notice how long the vlog was, I always enjoy the vlogs no matter how long they are.
Come on, more info needed here.
@CruisingTheCut
I do apologise for asking this very impertinent question...
But are you and Lorna actually married?
Something that has intrigued me for a while.
Haha no, it was just a little joke
@@CruisingTheCut A likely story.....;)....
Wish your videos were longer. Always love the beginning... welcome to the vlog. Lol This is a superb production.
Oh my, this one took me so long to edit as it is! No longer. I like to keep them under 15 minutes. Glad you liked it!
Personally I prefer your boat. Human nature to always want more than we already have.
Hi David, the problem with your vlog is that it is so good that it saves people the fuss of having to get their own boat!
Thank you David for the tour of the new boats. The wide beam boats are really luxurious! Have a good cruising season this year and enjoy the iced gin and tonics.
I'm finally getting close to real time. I laughed when you discovered that you can shop for frozen foods with your new fridge. When I bought a new RV I had a freezer after five years with just a fridge. Walking into a Walmart about a week after owning the new RV, I remembered the freezer. I bought a lot of frozen dinners and ice cream! Cheers David, and get writing that book!
The interior of that electric boat is the best I have seen yet. Love the use of reclaimed real wood. It’s the first narrow boat that does not look like an octogenarian retired librarian or civil servant has designed it! :)
Ay ay....Wife...?? Been busy then “Gigolo Dave”....😁😀....loved the monologue about new fridge....made me laugh...
Keep on cruising......👍
Paul Turley I noticed that! Have you something to tell us, Dave?! ☺️
Nice to hear of someone else who doesn't like Belfast sinks. I remember when all sinks were Belfast...Oh, that hateful junction between sink and worktop. It was kitchen heaven indeed when all-in-one-piece stainless steel came in.
I have to say I just love your honesty in all areas of your vlogs.
Your vlogs really are informative and entertaining, I just happened to view the vlog about the fuel boats a few weeks ago and I’ve been captivated ever since.
This vlog about the Crick show has made me seriously think about buying a boat when I retire.
They really are quite refreshing and I thank you for your effort and time in making them.
My favorite episode so far! And I’ve enjoyed many. Love seeing all the insides of the boats.
Don't have a G&T so I'll award myself a cuppa tea instead. Some beautiful boats on show here, partial to the one with reclaimed wood. Guess I'll never own one, not with my income but a man can dream.
Write your book, I'll buy a copy! Make it a Kindle E-book and more people will buy it with lower production costs.
So interesting and fun strolling along in UA-cam with you at the boat show. Thanks for taking us along . . . and your always fine and measured narration.
I spied a ukulele in the background on that Duracell boat - The definition of a gentleman - some who can play the ukulele...but doesn’t
I love seeing the interior of the narrow boats! Your new fridge looks amazing. How nice to be able to have frozen goods available to you now! I hope your new batteries will be the perfect solution for your charging needs. Great vlog David and I for one enjoy the long ones. 👍
I'd already got my G&T before you suggested it! 👍
That was a simply masterful vlog, must have taken you a week to edit all that together, really enjoyed that, thanks for sharing
It did take a while ;-)
A dish washer!!!! Now I'm interested in narrowboats again, I always wanted a dishwasher but when I ask for one I get told "But Bob, you are our dish washer and I wouldn't want to put you out of a job". So they are doing it for my own good I suppose.
I agree about the TVs, on all videos mega yachts, caravans, and many more, they put a TV in a place where no one can see it without risking serious neck injuries. I say to them "Put in the sofa etc, then put the TV where people sat there can see it. But no one listens to me.
Lazy TV Watcher... ? Just gimme your boat..Swapsies.. You can rent my hovel for 530P/m.
Nice one David... Loads of information and great ideas and great for those who prefer to avoid crowds... or happen to be 6,000 miles away at the time!!
You kept using we not me! And wife, that certainly needs an explanation.
Wife was just my little joke :-)
YES!! I caught that also and was wondering. David?
The book is a very good idea. While I am a rancher in Texas.. I will still buy your book. I enjoy your vlog that much.
WOW! That green boat is a beauty!!
Congrats David on the new fridge, freezer and batteries. 👍 I've never heard of those batteries so I'll have to look them up. I hope they live up to your expectations especially at those prices.
Thanks for the tour of the boat show and all the information, it was very informative. I enjoyed the tour it made me feel like I was there. I really liked that pastel colored one and the electric bed that raised and lowered. I don't drink alcohol anymore so I'll have to settle for a cold Dr.Pepper. 😎 Write the book it shouldn't take long with your talent for words. I'm not sure how much a quid is but I'd do my best to buy a copy. 👍 Oh and just an after thought I see a divorce in your future. 😁 lol
I'm looking forward to your videos on the details of those new batteries you bought, and how well they perform.
I could listen to you all day you have a dry sense of humour and make me laugh but you're clued up on narrow boating and I learn a lot watching your videos take care and stay safe.
As a Gin&Tonic girl, I'll now admit to being appalled when you made one without ice, then guessed your fridge couldn't make ice, and now saw this. Congratulations! Try lime slices next.
Hi David, what a great video of the show. Your previous life of being in TV really comes out when you are commenting on the various aspects of the boats. Time just flew by and did not realise that it was that long. Great that you have acquired a fridge/freezer now ice cream with strawberries 🍓 and raspberries. Looking forward to your next adventure. Martin
Thanks for the VLOG. You always bring up interesting points about "Cruising the Cut," different points of interest (shows, fairs, etc.), and the construction of the narrowboats.
Thanks David! Excellent cover of the show!
The book idea sounds very good. Actually 2 books. One a coffee table book, for all the amazing narrowboat scenery, would be a joy to peruse. The other, a collection of anecdotes from canal life. And maybe another book about your personal journey to life on the canal. And maybe another book…The sooner you get started. Enjoying your vlogs. 👍
Great vlog,really interesting and enjoyable.well done😁👍👏👏👏
I hate videos where the view of a subject is only in bouncy flashes and jerky movements, only giving the barest glimpse of the subject at hand before moving on to the next schizophrenic view. David, thank you for doing exactly the opposite of that.
I made a comment to my wife the other day about that exact topic....I hate the fact that a shot only lasts a few seconds in most forms of video these days.....Obnoxious background noise of some sort is usually thrown in too just to make sure you can't understand the dialogue!....lol
The book sounds like it would be an excellent idea. Since I am a resident of the USA I am not sure I need a Canal Book. However, if you write as well as you vlog I would probably enjoy it anyway! Happy writing. ;-)
We live in The Netherlands and are thinking about a UK canal holiday, these video's are a great help in working out how, where and when. Thank you David !
America should have canal system too.
Yes to the book. I'll buy one.
Great volgg david. thanks..
Just rewatched this video, and want to cheer you on in terms of the semi-serious idea you mentioned regarding writing a book. I would certainly order that! No doubt many, many subscribers would as well. Thanks again for your excellent channel!
hey man writing that book sounds like a good idea .. go for it bro!
The electric boat is absolutely awesome and beautiful.
This vlog is absolutely amazing... my yearning to live a canal boat lifestyle has soared! To heck with reality
Video too long? Not long enough for some :-) Great meeting you by the way. We got a photo when I was chatting to Jono if you remember.
Stuart!
Lovely to see you too (and so many others as well!! It was a busy show!!)
The wife!!!??? London boat girl?
Nice one Dave . ✌️
The green narrowboat.. looked very appealing to me.
Even in America those batteries would be June '09. Our system is mm/dd/yr. If just 2 sets of numbers it is mm/yr.
Ha! Thanks for the clarification. They're still old then...
Looks like a useful trip, I will be intrigued by the battery video.
Ice cubes and ice cream! What’s next? A bar on the stern deck? Hmm...now that’s not a bad idea. I’d never have to go below. 🥃🍺🥂
You really do cheer my day up
I'd buy the book.
As a regular viewer from the New World, I thought I'd mention a language oddity for your amusement. Here, we have both HOMEY and HOMELY. The first is a compliment, implying you'd like to live in such an inviting place; the second has diverged into meaning "just short of plain ugly!" There's often a suggestion of something home-built, such as "here's a homely little boat coming our way."
Really enjoyed your show coverage and am intrigued by the idea of a silent electric boat. Wish we had canals where I live. B-(
Hi. Yes, here homely means nice and cosy, just as you’d use homey.
The reverse layout with L style Galley is very good looking. I also like the electric drive boat, including the electric folding bed at the bow. BUT I am old and far away! Good job.
The first boat was gorgeous, as were the Aintrees. Good luck with the new batteries
Will be interested to hear how you get on with the batteries as we are about ready for some new ones. Great to meet you on Saturday!
Anyone else think having an ultra-modern narrowboat with all luxury interior takes away the fun a little? Just my opinion; but I prefer the cosy style narrowboats with the darker woods etc. Maybe I'm just boring lol :D
On the decoration (darker woods, no matter if painted that way or naturally dark doesn't matter, are more attractive to me, too) I agree, on convenience? Nope, I admit I am a luxury creature (or at least a "mod-con" creature, so stuff like a washing machine, a freezer and fridge etc. are a must for me!) and I can life with that (it's not like modern boats or even RVs (especially Bus-Conversions!) don't come with all the mod-cons)
Lorna would make a wonderful wife! And living on separate boats would ensure years of wedded bliss! lol 😍😍😍
Hahaha she may not be so keen on having me as a husband mind you!
Hi David! We really enjoy your vlog, and I especially like this one. I love seeing inside the different boats and hearing your thoughts about them. Thank you!
Well, it’s a bit early in the morning to award myself a G&T, so I’ll settle for a mug of T.
What a great vlog, with a variety of modern boats, eco filters, new experimental batteries and even a wedding announcement that’s going to keep you saying “not actually my wife” in the comments for the next few weeks til you give up and pin the clarification. Or is this the youtuber equivalent of posting banns?
I am glad there’s all electric boats on offer now, and even an association. Last time I went boating I was passed by a couple of electrics whilst moored, and they were so wonderfully silent. Plus, I really really like the split bed.
And yes, I would definitely contribute to your new boat fund by buying a book. I’m a great fan of your vlog, and you have a knack for telling stories in a highly approachable manner :)
Haha no banns
I reads you were a Radio Presenter etc now I know why you make good videos
Love it, David . Thanks for the tour. Hope you have great luck with your new batteries.
You have the skills to make a longish video pass very enjoyably. Said it before, but for me this is a glimpse into another plane of existence and a lot of fun.
Interesting as usual - isn't it fun looking around other peoples boats and stealing their best ideas!! I can thoroughly recommend pretendy grass on the foredeck. Picked up an 'end of roll' cheapy last season (fair weather boater!!) and fitted PDQ. You really need to be confident in the standard of the deck paintwork underneath it (cos it's probably going to be a bit wet a lot of the time) but it looks so much nicer than boring paint, it saves having to brush the deck every couple of days with the added bonus that it acts like a large scale door mat at the pointy end - the crew say it adds confidence getting on - no slippy deck with wet/muddy feet. Just do it!
This type of boat needs to migrate to the usa for those of us on the rivers and intercoastal waterway..wonderful setups for life on a boat better than making do on a sail or buy a crazy expensive houseboat..
#1, love the old wood floors and walls. So cozy! #2, FANCY, beautiful kitchen ! Love the sink.
The bow is awesome ❤️. 40 ft. 😱😱😱😱😱Claustrophobia time. When you look at these boats, you see how amazing your boat is! In fact you could have had it in the show. You did such a wonderful job decorating it. Yours is way better than “The Best in Show”!
Saturday, #1, not big on the colors, but stunning layout of the boat! Incinerating toilet? I 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Not a fan of to Wide Boat, just not cozy. The reverse layout makes much more sense as you’re bringing you groceries in the door. Not a fan of the last boat with a sink by the bed??? But such fun to see all the boats and get ideas! Your new fridge is AWESOME!!
Great vlog
Best of show winner.
Here in America we're on lock down due to the virus bingeing on your wonderful Vlogs. However, when are we going to see you drink one of those Gin & Tonics you keep mentioning, so we can see the glass you use?
18:54 Do write that book. You could even take pre-orders and in return a subscriber gets their name in the front.
i like the show. congrads on the frig and batteries.i love your video i have seen most of them. thank you for all the time you put in video and all the hard work you do on editing
Excellent vlog as always :-)
Another awesome video! Write that book, I’d buy a copy in a shot 👌🏻
Thinking of you Canal Book idea. Why not use your culinary skills and do a book about cheese sandwiches? Think of all those English cheeses, that white crumbly Lancashire with a sprig of water cress, my mouth is watering already. Wensleydale, with an introduction by Wallace & Grommit. Volume ii could be French
cheeses, volume iii Dutch cheeses - Time Life Books would have a field day. You'd have
more volumes than your could shake a barge pole at. What is a barge pole by-the-way?
Good evening from Belgium, it is always a great pleasure for me to watch your videos.
Great video, cheers
Another great vlog David, thank you.
Wife?? Camper van??
Regarding the batteries. Found the tech specs on this page.
Ideal Charge Voltage
: 14.1-14.6 V
Top Up Charge Voltage
: 13.5-13.8 V
www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/12v-leoch-pure-lead-carbon-plh-c100-deep-cycle-leisure-battery/
Cheers! Even the Leoch datasheet doesn't specify that!!
No, I saw that. Strange since it IS a deep cycle leisure battery and those figures are of importance. They look like interesting batteries though and those levels are what most batteries have, so nothing out of the ordinary there. Looking forward to a review :) might buy them for my camper van. Cheers and thanks for your vlog! Very entertaining :)
l love seeing inside the boats and all the different accessories and furniture set-ups available.
They say whatever floats your boat and that video certainly did. Very good.
"Fish tank obviously" !!
Famously Douglas Adams was locked in a hotel room with his editor for 3 weeks in order to get a book done.... Should we draft London Boat Girl (the Wife) to perform the job of Task Master? #CruisingTheCutTheNovel
Don’t like Gin but will have a cold beer
Thank you from down under
Hear hear!
I really liked that first boat from Mothership - well thought through with electric propulsion and recycled timber interior. Very attractive!
lol. very entertaining the fridge and batteries! ask bigclive dot com re batteries.. he'll know.
I got my own bilge filter....and I thought you did another good job.. no bilge needed filtering. well done .
Write that book!
One day...
Congratulations on the ice cubes! Thank you for the Crick tour through some of the new boats; enlightening and entertaining as usual -- love your sense of humor!💙
I've said it before and I'll say it again (and am sure am not the only one) but I really enjoy your longer videos.
I'll buy your book and read it.....
Me too.
In the States, the word Homely means not pleasant to look at. We, instead, use the word Homey when something IS pleasant to look at.
I was about to make the same post.
But then in the States you don't know how to pronounce aluminium !
Love the new electric boats popping up. Hybrids are practical but I love the innovations and bravery of going with the full electric. I like the boat with two toilets as well. Great for having guests or if two boaters are rubbish cooks.
I’m addicted to your vlog. What an amazing insight into what’s available. Thank you
