I'm taking my first Amtrak adventure aboard the Auto Train from Sanford, FL to Lorton, VA in a few months. Took advantage of the Flash Sale Amtrak had.
Im about to do the Texas Eagle this month! I'm an artist and writer and always get so much work done on the train. Its the perfect place to work remotely! Thanks for your videos, I take the train often to/from Chicago and hope to run into y'all sometime!
Nope, they may be selling that roomette, but I’m not buying it.. husband and I were on empire builder from Seattle to Chicago 2 years ago and watching this triggered ptsd again as I climbed that roomette wall up to that tomb with the curved ceiling right above your head. Never been in a coffin, but this was the same dimensions-I had a full blown panic attack as strapped myself in for the night…1 minute later, nope, not for me! The porter and my husband worked out a deal, where my husband sat up in chair configuration in a different roomette, moving him around for the two nights while I occupied the absolutely wonderful lower berth. Don’t do it, designed for an adult and one kid. I still owe my husband big time for his sacrifice cheers, Robin
They have done that before. How many times do they have to do it? With every video? Book early, book coach, preferably with the Amtrak Rail Pass promotion whenever Amtrak sends you a notification of a sale when you allow Amtrak's notifications. Travel during off peak periods during the season, not during the summer school holidays and Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Amtrak fares are dynamic like nearly all of the hospitality and tourism industry, the busier they are the more expensive the fare... There is NO set everyday fare...
Amtrak's Metropolitan Lounge in L.A. is on the 2nd level- same level as the train platforms. The general waiting room is on the 1st level. There are golf carts & attendants available to transport passengers & carry-ons from the Metropolitan Lounge to the train. Those who prefer to walk to the train from the lounge will need to go down to the 1st level (stairs or elevator) of the station & over to the long concourse in order to get to the track. There is a steep inclined tunnel and stairs leading up to the track platform which may be a challenge for some travelers. Amtrak does not allow passengers to walk the same route from the Metropolitan Lounge to the platform as the golf carts for safety.
Hadn’t watched one of your videos in a while. I miss commentary as you’re rolling along. Comments, written or spoken, about towns, landmarks, names of mountain ranges, etc., would have been interesting since I’ve never been in that part of the country. Kind of like you were phoning it in.
I have never ridden the train and I wondered if you have any tips for me? I need to go from Charlotte, NC to Raleigh NC, so it’s a quick trip but I have no idea how to even book a ticket??!! Help 😅
Seeing the wall gets my undies in a bunch! I will be doing this exact route leaving from Tucson to Chi, then Chi to DC & DC to Providence! I have a roomette but wonder if I should go for the bedroom upgrade???? It's the bathroom thing, I have Crohn's disease. Unpredictable....🤔
How quickly do you have to go to do your business in the rest room? There is a public restroom near the roomettes upstairs, and three restrooms downstairs in a sleeper car... Surely one will be available at any given time in a Superliner. in a Viewliner the Viewliner I roomettes have a toilet in a roomette, but the Viewliner II roomettes do not. However, the Viewliner II sleepers do have a public restroom for the roomettes at one end of the car and a shower opposite that rest room... Every bedroom has a ensuite with a toilet/shower in both Superliner and Viewliner sleepers, but at twice the cost of a roomette usually...
I use a CPAP machine, no problems. However I do bring. power strip with a six foot cord to connect to the one outlet in a roomette... A must since most of these Amtrak sleepers are showing their age with one power outlet for razors or hair dryers, long before we had rechargeable devices... I remember bringing batteries for my walkman cassette tape player...
From LA ride the Southwest Chief to Chicago, and then ride the Floridian from Chicago to Tampa after November 9. 2024... A Superliner west of Chicago and a Viewliner east of Chicago, both trains have a standard bedroom with a ensuite toilet/shower.. Two trains after November 9, 2024 LA to Tampa...
New to watching and I appreciate the footage new or old! Thanks!!! One thing the food looks so delicious how do you keep from gaining weight? Take care!!!
Ive known that a few videos are repeat, but being outside America its always new. Now i have a question, are there any people in America? Very few in shots & it doesnt seem to matter how big the town is. Lots of cars, but no humans.
You will need to reserve a wheelchair accessible bedroom if going 1st class. If going by coach, there are spaces available for those in wheelchairs on the 1st level of Superliners. Restrooms are ADA compliant in certain cars, so calling ahead would be a good idea. The staff has the necessary equipment to get wheelchair bound passengers on & off the train.
A Question: If the Roomette cannot be locked from the outside, how do you secure your belongings in the Roomette while you're in the Dining Car or outside for a fresh-air break? A very enjoyable and informative video as always.... Thanks!
When did y’all take this ride? Y’all were wearing jackets. It is not that cold here in TX yet! I’m taking the eagle from Longview to Joliet later this month.
Love your channel. So is the Zephyr the bumpiest? Or how did you find it going from Emeryville to Chicago? I'm a little apprehensive after seeing a few reviews.
To be on the safe side I would talk to him and explain what I want to do. This way if you happen to be taking meds he can make sure you will have what you will need for wherever you are going. I have several medical conditions, and wish I didn't, but whenever I am planning a trip I get with my doctor to let him know what and where. Haven't had any problems so far, good Lord willing. Get out there and enjoy life. We have a beautiful world to explore.
We travel with special med ice and cooler but probably not ok for days. If by plane, see TSA rules about medically necessary. You want clear “transfer of custody” of your meds. No one should put in & out of refrigeration for you.
On lower level on superliner train cars there are either 3 or 4 roommates, a family bedroom, and an ADA bedroom in most cars but the transition sleeper car is different.
Rob and Allie, respectfully, please label your old videos as reposts. This is really becoming a problem. If you read your comments, there are many who feel this way. You will lose subscribers if this keeps happening.
Yeah - There must be something going on and they're just trying to keep their income rolling. I wish they would just let us know that there's something happening and that they'll be posting repeats for a bit...at least let us know!
I used to be such a big fan of this channel but the endless recycling of old episodes just to keep Grounded Life Travel going while you were elsewhere in the world is such a disservice to your fans. You should mark them as ‘vintage’ with the date of the original posting. You’ve really shaken my trust which makes me sad.
Someone might be watching for the first time, so the info is helpful for them. And it seems like the trips they’re taking aren’t identical. I don’t mind if there’s a little repetition.
Travelling first time from Chicago to Seattle Monday and your video's have been a lifesaver; thanks!

You must have tacked in parts of another video. The Texas Eagle doesn't go from Albuquerque to Gallop? 15:00
Yes, there are some very beautiful sunsets from the Texas Eagle.
I've done the Texas Eagle from Chicago to Palm Springs, Ca. and back. It is a looong trip!

Retired recently and once I have my ankle issues sorted-out, I'll be on a trek with Amtrak; Inspired by the both of you!
Luv your presentations!

I'm sorry, I've been watching you guys for a while. Just got to say, it feels like I'm watching a rerun. 😢
They really should date these things so we know it’s a rerun. I’ve given up watching
You are. All of the videos they upload are just broken down or extended chunks from the longer vids
If you feel that this is like a rerun, then you don't share the excitement of train travel.

Hello, I'm a wheelchair user are the AMTRAK trains ADA compliant? The corridors seem very narrow.
You will need to reserve a wheelchair accessible bedroom if going 1st class. If going by coach, there are spaces available for those in wheelchairs on the 1st level of Superliners. Nice video
Is this a repost?
Yes this is a repost for about the past few months that is all that have been reposting old videos. I thought some would be new, but they aren't.
@@harveyh3696 Man, I felt like I was back in the 80's with the reruns.
Going on my first train trip across country to Seattle. How do you know when dinner, etc is when you are passing through several time zones?

Your videos are more interesting when you narrate
The tracks always run thru the nicest neighborhoods don't they?
Everyone seeks shelter. We lived near a diesel line that shared with freight. Post WWII Vets & GI Bill development.
Love all of your videos!! Keep up the good work.❤
1st time I've ever seen zero likes!
Well that’s an hour of my life I won’t get back.
Were there no train changes?

Should I get a medical clearance from my doctor before I travel on Amtrak Trains across America.

How can Amtrak handle people with disability with certain medications that need to be refrigerated while they on train.
We travel with special med ice and cooler but probably not ok for days. If by plane, see TSA rules about medically necessary. You want clear “transfer of custody” of your meds. No one should put in & out of refrigeration for you.
Are there lower level rooms?
Four roomettes, a family bedroom and an accessible bedroom.
