I enjoyed the walk. My grandmother that was born in 1891 always said, you don't have to be afraid of the dead, only the living.

I had a friend who lived next door to a graveyard. I asked her if she wasn't afraid to live there and she said no, the dead are lovely quiet neighbours - and the burglars are too afraid of the spirits to burgle her house!

I grew up a 30 second walk from a cemetery and later moved to a different location overlooking a different one. We always joked about "quiet neighbours" and there was never any trouble, either with the supernatural, or any kind of antisocial behaviour.
Both cemeteries were very old but still in active use.

And besides, god is watching over the dead as his fallen children, you shouldn’t be afraid of churches, as god is always with you

This is an anglo-saxon building (meaning it was erected sometime around the 8th century A.D., that's the 700's), but it was built on the foundations of a Roman bath house, and the stones and bricks of the Roman building were used to build it, which puts the foundations and materials of this place even further back in time from around the 1st to the 4th century. A.D. I am always in awe of how the British take such a huge pride in the conservation of their buildings and monuments. This church is over 1200 years old!

Thanks for sharing. In 1988, Me and some friends sat on and around a bench in a local churchyard talking from about 10pm then they left after midnight and me and this girl I knew continued talking till 8am. This was during winter and a tad below freezing. There was frost all around us including the bench we were sat on. Watching the town go to bed and get up was a strange experiance.

The wall monument to the Hon. Richard Newport (1685-1716) is located directly above the Bromleys.
Sir Thomas & Lady Isabel (Mabel) were Richard Newport’s great great grandparents.

Hi there, when I saw this video for the first time yesterday, I was deeply impressed. This graveyard still has plenty of space for funerals, but it seems to be abandoned. That means, all the people who are buried here, do really rest in peace, some since many centuries. I love visiting graveyards and cemeteries, it's so quiet there, mostly you can only hear the birds singing. I subscribed only yesterday, but I will watch all of your videos as soon as possible. Thank you for taking us there.

Great video. Did you know that the church is largely built from stones from the Roman City of Virconium, less than a mile away? It was the third largest city in Roman Britain. Check out the exterior walls, and you can see the varied colored blocks from the ancient city. Cheers!

The Newports intermarried with the Bromleys. They were the wealthiest and most powerful families in Shropshire.
As Shropshire had no aristocracy, the wealthy landed gentry controlled local affairs. The Newports were the wealthiest of Shropshire’s landed gentry, owning vast estates all over England. They also intermarried with the powerful Hill and Rowland families, amassing tremendous wealth and political power.

I give you credit, sir-I could never bring myself to spend an entire night alone so close to a graveyard! Also, as a writer, I can tell you that you are NOT pronouncing “lichen” incorrectly. Your pronunciation is the standard British pronunciation, where as we Americans pronounce it “LIKE-en,” which is now also becoming acceptable on your side of the pond. Thanks for another great video!

This was so cool seeing your "chill" version of "Champing"( which to me seemed both interesting and relaxing as you took the time to explore the Church & cemetary. I say this because (in this same church), a few months back, YT channel Sam & Colby brought some friends to that Church for an overnight Paranormal investigation. Their version was the opposite of "chill" which included a lot of screaming, scary music and running around (lol).👻

100 quid a night ...to stay in a church over night .....okay!!!! In other words the churches are inneed of money 🤑 how to raise funds for maintenance ..i guess.
I think it could be rather good fun. But chilly at night. I stayed overnight in a converted dungeon/ castle one time ..very creepy with original features. That could be a very romantic night for a couple - sleeping together in a church ....wow.. or the night of your wedding in a church 🤩 ❤

No, it wasn't someone trying to get into the church, while you were in there, someone posted a "Champing in Progress" sign on the door. It wasn't there when you first entered, but it was there after your night walk. It would have been great to see some footage of camping in the church overnight. What do you think is the attraction to the idea of 'champing'? Can you also camp in a mausoleum or crypts overnight?

"Litchen" is the UK pronunciation. "Lie-kin" is the American. When and why they split, no idea. But I think this follows a fairly common thread in the pronunciation differences between the two "dialects" of English particularly when it relates to words received from other languages; "lichen" is based on a Greek word or words, and as such "ch" out to be pronounced more like a "k" as it is in Greek. For some reason, American English tends to follow the pronunciation from the original language more often than British English does, which tends instead to follow its own rules (such as "ch" almost always being pronounced as 'tcha" regardless of origin).

For us, we are a very small country, land are limited but we still can choose to cremate or bury but for bury, bodies must be exhumed after 15 years. So I told my son to cremate me and throw my ashes to the Garden of Peace after I die. And for bury, we need to pay to the tomb caretaker some money every year to take care of the tomb when we went for our tomb sweeping day or QingMing Festival. I love to visit cemetery too, Bukit Brown cemetery is very interesting too but some part are going away for our Public Housing. :(

Hi, It's just an alternative to being put in the ground, although in some mausoleums you are still in the ground but in a little crypt, and like you say some people choose to stay above ground. The coffins are usually lead lined meaning it's air tight so no smells can escape. Lead lining also good for slower decomposition of the body. Hope this helps
