In this video I'll attempt to start the 3rd saw I won at an auction, a Husqvarna 268xp. I don't think this saw will run but I'll try and get it going. thanks for watching
Carb kit, seals, o-rings and gasket. I would guess around $50-$60 fix. So $150.00 for a 268xp, I'd take that all day every day. I'm sure you will put the Tinman touch to it and it will be a wonderful saw. This chassis is by far my favorite. I think I could tear them down and rebuild it with my eyes closed. Great saw and another good scoop. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
A carb kit is no big deal. Be a good deal if all you need is a carb rebuild, fuel line and filter. Cant wait to see if she needs anything else. Like your channel, teaches me how to diagnose the problem. I believe you are a better mechanic than you let on. Have a great day.
I’d say that’s a great candidate for a big bore 😂 let us see what you want for a “fun saw” haha one that maybe isn’t the “best” firewood saw but isn’t quite a race saw either. Make your inner child happy😂 hope everyone has a great week!
Facebook marketplace all day. I’m in 250$ total for a 257, 038 magnum, and 266xp. All came non running with minor carb cleaning they were good to go. A lot of sellers even let you take a peak at the cylinder through the exhaust.
That pretty much what our 266XP goes like. You fiddle with it all day long, and sometimes it'll start and run for a minute or two, then never again today, and other times it's a pig to start but will run half decent. One day, when the enthusiasm returns, it may get an overhaul.
Me Tinman, have been watching your videos while learning to port my 2 stroke Chinsang motorcycle bicycle engines. From notching the piston and using a single ring to degree wheel timing. Of course the motor bike engine uses different timing numbers but it is fun to play with. Thanks for your exp and knowledge. I've also been recommending you to others'channel to yours.
I buy a chain saw at every spring from our local consignment auction A husky 66 Stihl 034 super Husky 55 This year it was a dolmar 540 Every one has run with no problem This is stihl country and you usually can’t touch them husky and dolmar and other brands go really cheap This year they sold a 291 for 180 bucks with no competition Got the dolmar for 60 and it started 2 nd pull
Sweeeet!!! All 3 are runners Bud!! The Husky needs a bit of lovin’ but not a biggie. Take care of that shoulder, I have a few years on you and just had my rotator cuff repaired. It is not fun….
Just watched a video about this very issue. Person said it was most likely due to a dried out/ hardened diaphragm. The suggested fix was to full throttle it and to flip the choke lever on and off to keep it running while the diaphragm has a chance to free up. I have a feeling that that wouldn’t work in your case lol
Yep ... used saws are selling for a lot more than they used to. Also, new saws are selling for more than they used to. That looks almost exactly like my first "real" chainsaw ... heh heh. I haven't fired it up in a while (probably 2 years?), and I'll be it needs a carb kit by now too. I try to run the saws to keep fresh fuel in the carb, but the older slower ones seem to sit longer and sadly get forgotten. They are solid saws, that cut me a lot of wood though.
So you did the fuel cap update. 👍👍 Buddy of mine has a 257 we tried mine from my 592 and they fit. But the oil cap is smaller. But looking at the Top handle saws it looks like there fuel and oil caps is smaller then the bigger saws so I’m wondering if they’ll fit the oil cap. 🤷♂️🤷♂️. Just food for thought. Keep up the good work. 👍👍
When you get a source for the universal fuel line, could you please include it in a later video? I have multiple brands, and that would be a great resource!
I think that saw is a carb cleaning away from running all day???? Maybe? That hat is too clean! They must be hard to come by! It'll run soon I think I would do all the seals and check the bearings, clean it before I put it back together so it would be right for a while and need little work, but you have a hundred saws so..... you can just pull a cord until one fires up and use it. I don't see many used saws in Ohio of course I don't hang around the lawn and garden joints often. My son will find some of the junky old McCullough saws at Cashland (pawn shop) but the good stuff is gone before the guy getting rid of it lets go of it. Same thing with boats somebody says they're selling it and someone buys it before the sign goes on it.
The 268 that I got had oil pouring out the muffler from a very rich oil mix the piston looked great but the exhaust port was all oil sludge carbine I had to clean it all out
Hello Tinman. What would I do? Carb kit. I'm not a pro either but I mostly manage on my atv's and skidoos. I've dince taken my 346xp appart and waiting for a new top end from Wolf Creek also. My new challenge with my chainsaw is that EVERY part is so small, tiny, seems microsopic
Hey Tinman!! I need your opinion. I'm about ready to split the case on a 272xp . When I go to put it back together with the new seal should I coat the gasket with a sealant first or just use the gasket dry?
I have a 026 with a base gasket delete and muffler mod, the saw is a ripper. I just purchased a ms661 non mtronic, what are your recommendations on a base gasket delete for the 661? I am running a 32 inch Stihl light bar with full house chain and bark box.
Hey tinman i need the whole brake setup including the flag for a 181 se, do you know if any other models of brake setups would fit? Like if a 266/68 brake setup is the same as off the 181? Thanks for any input!

I usually scream and shout at it and it usually does the trick. Yours sincerely from the old qeer corrupt UK 🇬🇧
my dads 84 266xp sounded like that when the carb mounts backed out on us. love these old husqvarnas though.

I'm just some guy puttering in my shop, and I've played with so many saws its gotten easier over the years.
@@tinmanssaws😂😂😂
Looking forward to more videos on that series saw. I got a couple 61 and just picked up a 266. Just love the 266.
I’d say that’s a great candidate for a big bore 😂 let us see what you want for a “fun saw” haha one that maybe isn’t the “best” firewood saw but isn’t quite a race saw either. Make your inner child happy😂 hope everyone has a great week!
Hey Tinman. Great channel. Always love seeing you get these saws running at their best. All the Best from northeast England. Paddy.

For sure enjoying the series, and I look forward to the video when you get this thing running right!🤘

Awesome! Yeah, it needs some love but I'd call that a win aswell!

Well i think it’s the carb if not take a 2pound shop hammer and give it a attitude adjustment👍🤣👍😎
Hey Tinman, it looks like she will clean up nicely, good to see you can get out and work on the tailgate again. Thanks. 👍
Hello. Good chanel!. Best regards from Poland 🇵🇱
Nice saw looking forward to follow up video!
266 content. Just like the good old days early on the channel. Still my go to saw, so light, lots of jam.
Love the auction serie!
3 for 3!!!!! I'm going to hire you to buy my next batch of used saws ,l o l. 👍

Just got a 020av off ebay 117 dollars runner I gagged after your reaction to the bad gas
G’day Tinman. No 3 at least started 👍🏼 fantastic…
Awesome video as always sir! 💯
When you get a source for the universal fuel line, could you please include it in a later video? I have multiple brands, and that would be a great resource!
I buy echo fuel mostly. Buy it by the roll.
Great video as usual sir.

You can get oem cylinder kits but only in 52mm I believe
Long live the 2 series XP!!!
🤙🤙
carb kit is no loss for sure
gotta give us more info on those fuel lines bud!!!!
They're just generic fuel lines from ebay. Bought them like 7 years ago in bulk

Either or works. I use sealant on my case gaskets
Hey Tinman, I just got 2 266s and I’m about to try to get them running, any idea if you have an extra coil?
👍🏻
Good deal for $100. Great saw . Used mine the other day. Video is out on my channel if you have time. Cheers
I would go straight to the plug.
I just picked myself up a dolmar 109 chainsaw. Will you be at the pual bunyan show this year?
That's the plan
I bet that screen in the carb is plugged with bad fuel. Or the diaphragm is as Chrispy as a potato chip.
I have a 026 with a base gasket delete and muffler mod, the saw is a ripper. I just purchased a ms661 non mtronic, what are your recommendations on a base gasket delete for the 661? I am running a 32 inch Stihl light bar with full house chain and bark box.
I've never run a 661, so I don't have any insight on that one.
Hey tinman i need the whole brake setup including the flag for a 181 se, do you know if any other models of brake setups would fit? Like if a 266/68 brake setup is the same as off the 181? Thanks for any input!
Pretty sure the 181 brake flag is different then a 266. I'll habe to look when I'm in the shop.
Sounds good man, thank you!!!
Prewatch guess, im saying you'll at least get it to spitter for a minute
Do I have to worry about the barons on my 372 I am putting a titan cylinder and piston
A total
And?….
How's the Tinman and family.
Difficult to understand why you didn't even clean out the fuel tank and put new fuel and a decent spark plug in it from the start.
That's a great comment.
I won't put a plug and fresh fuel in a saw that needs a coil or a piston. So I checked those first. To each their own.
👍
