If you understand the meaning behind this song, then you'll appreciate just how beautiful this version is. The combination of Freya's tone and the orchestra is just beautiful (like a rainbow).
The real meaning is deeper, and a bit darker. In a 2002 interview, Don Henley shared that the true meaning of the song is about American excess and how overindulgence in the wealth a person finds can detach them from reality and ultimately destroy them.

Such a contrast to Cyndi who is a soprano. Wonderful (both versions).
I agree. It is nearly impossible to match, muss less beat Cyndi's four-octave range. Freya's version is sublime.
