    Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
    I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
    I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
    I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

    I like my 8r 370 wheeled tractor a lot comfort, ride, lights etc. but I have to agree with you on the command pro it does have a big learning curve and probably over done although I am getting used to it but my other operators do have trouble so I like the traditional IVT controls better. The RX models do look great and perform well but the expense😬.

    I come from the world of manufacturing and understand equipment purchase and how the equipment purchase decisions are calculated. Watching AG, and the equipment costs and time of use is so foreign to me. The cost of AG and the time it is used which can be minimal (when looking at a time period of 12 months and think of a combine / planter / grain cart and its time of use), it seems the operational costs of all that stuff has to be big a number. How the financials of AG all comes together is something I watch and try to learn because I find it fascinating.
    Happy Anniversary!

    I like the tractor. I don’t like the idea of tanks on the tractor simply because of weight as you said but accessibility and site. I know the wagon is a pain but in my opinion it’s a better option on your farm because you have a majority of the fields are larger acres. But nice set up.

    If your truly concerned about compaction why not get the mounted tanks on the tractor fill the cart for road travel and unhook it at the field and transfer there that would eliminate have to have a chase vehicle and if needed you could carry more to the field in one trip if you really need it! Maybe do a compaction test with and without the cart I’m sure there will be a difference! Have a happy anniversary and new year thanks for all the great videos!

      JD does make an adapter plug. They also sell the 3 pin round plug with wires already in it that you can cut off the old style plug and wire on the 3 pin round. I believe the 3 pin round is more common with other brands, I was told that’s the reason for the switch. I have part numbers if you want.

      Hard to say. When we bought it I estimated depreciation at around $100 per hour but I can find used ones with more good than ours for sale for far more than we paid brand new. I'm sure used equipment values will crash at some point but right now we could easily get what we paid for it.

    I can tell you why you cant directly go from forward to reverse with the joystick, because iam a 100% sure they did that because some people used to use that function (that you are missing) to slow the tractor down (applying the brakes) and that basicly destroyes the transmission.) so they put the neutral position in so they cant use the reveserse a brake.

    Nathan, Nathan, Nathan. I don't think that it's reasonable to expect 10 years out of this tractor. They just don't build the tractors like they did in 1998. If you put 400 hours a year on it, you may find the highest value to your operation is 5 years. I'm looking at the hours more than the years. Almost every manufacturer builds a failure time frame based on time and usage into their product. Insuring their future market I suppose. Also, I expect the technology to change exponentially the next few years.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  Рік тому +2

      I'm not saying we won't buy another tractor for 10 years but I am saying the 8335R will likley leave before the 8RX

    • @billwhitman1529
      @billwhitman1529 Рік тому +1

      @@BorderViewFarms I sure agree with that. And I’m agreeing that we should be able to depend on equipment lasting for all the money it costs but all manufacturers build with an eye on replacing tractors at 3,000 hrs maybe 3,500 hrs, not the decades or 10,000 hours we came to expect. In effect, forcing us to replace tractors every 3-5 years. Frankly makes us look at leasing considering technology and warranty.

    You are being to nice because it's a new tractor. The lack of storage is stupid. The cab is smaller than the 8R, and cheaper built than the 8R. It is a sea of cheap plastic. The command pro is the most counter intuitive piece of garbage Deere has ever used. I could keep going but I'll stop. The reasons I used to have for spending more on a Deere have all but been erased with the new 8R.
