Can't help but mention that Oshi no Ko is one of those manga that deserve a top tier anime adaptation. Fair to say that no one expected anything less from the author of Kaguya-Sama.
So I read it online, and even the translators get a good in depth explanation of everything that’s going on. I read the English translation from Guya and they break down every aspects of everything going on, especially in the Japanese media side. For the Akane arc, the translator used the “Terrance house incident” as a real life example of what happens during media influence. Even if it’s not that, they go more in debt about the smaller details about Japanese media and the backgrounds of it

I started reading this manga a couple of months ago, and I was like, "Why hasn't this been covered more?" (at least in the international community). So to see Garnt and Joey promote this series makes me so glad.
I was reading this and for some reason I forgot to catch up the updates, The Bois mentioning it in their recent Trash Taste episode reminded me of how good it was.
The fact that one year ago, he predicted this manga will not only get an adaptation but iterated it should not be missed really shows how much of an opinion leader Gigguk is in the anime community. He truly is a one-of-a-kind chad.
I've been reading since jaimini's box era. It's kinda weak at first but when they got into the introduction of Akane, I knew it's gonna be the best manga aka-sensei has ever produced so far.
The cancel culture plotline is probably based off a real-life event where wrestler Kimura Hana committed suicide due to hate comments she got from the negative portrayal of her at a Japanese reality TV show. The manga arc was so eerily similar that I guess the author may have taken some notes from it.
Not read the manga yet but im guessing its more so how for years female and some male idol celebs arent allowed to be in a relationship as the fans if they found out they would nuke that idols career faster then a cowboy could draw his pistol. and im talkin back in the myspace era of internet maybe even further back then that.

I'm so happy that this manga is finally getting recognized. I read it back when Joey made a video about this mang and it blew my expections 10 times over.
Funny thing about this is that the Mangaka for Kaguya-Sama, Akasaka, draws, plays games and interacts with some really popular v-tubers on streams. Like I genuinely don't know how this dude manages to do so much
There’s a running joke that every time Kaguya is on break, it always become “its apex isn’t it?” Joke aside, he’s pretty close and in-tune with what happened behind the scenes, and how while even if a show is fake… there are genuine feelings behind it.
Being genuine vs. Being perceived as genuine If you're in this kind of situation you know you're already in for a world of hurt regardless of whether you are in the right or not
Very true! And the scary thing is that it's sometimes hard to tell between the two at times. Like with Ai in this series, she was in the business of lying and selling an image of herself as part of her job as an idol, because she was hoping that she'll learn to know what love is like eventually through the lying eventually becoming the truth. And, in a heartbreaking way, she succeeded more than she probably knew... ToT
I remember Zombieland Saga talking about how in the past, idols needed to portray themselves as gods, the untouchables.. In one sense, recent times has improved because now, being "close" to idols are the norm. Except that also introduces massive implications detrimental to the idols and entertainers. It's cool to see a manga explore those "behind the scenes" of the Behind the Scenes in the idol industry.
The light novel, "I Fell In Love, So I Tried livestreaming" also does a good job at showing the struggles in the entertainment industry, obviously it mostly focuses on live streamers. They even have an arc where a V-tuber gets hate because they heard the sound of a boy in the background. I recommend it, it also is a good romance story.
Yeah that happened to towa from hololive, fortunately she got popular in the west who don't give a fuck about that kinda stuff so she was able to rebound
@@Rain-nm1ee she did, but she is still like second biggest female streamer in the world so who cares they are literaly the loud and annoying minority, towa almost had her carrer destroyed because the japanece take this kind of stuff much more seriously
As a viewer, I never forget that content creators are people with goals, feelings, flaws, etc. but whenever they express what they experience, its always been something I have never understood. Not that I couldn't offer sympathy, but that I fail to find a way connecting to what this is like. Seeing as there's a manga of people starting out fresh entering into it and seeing what they have to do and what that leads to and how that feels leaves me very interested. Will start reading.
Been following this series from nearly the start, glad to see the attention from big animetubers like Joey and Gigguk on top of winning that manga award. The eventual anime adaptation already has me excited.

I really love about Oshi no Ko how I don’t feel like the characters end their development once a new one appears, it’s something that I see a lot of series struggling with.
Akasaka proved with Kaguya-sama he can develop the ENTIRE cast over time throughout a series and not limit it to character arcs. This shows up once again on Oshi no Ko. Most series act like arcs are mini story with plot points unrelated to each arc and characters only being relevant and developed over that one arc. I hate those series but they are also super common
this shows as well that the mangaka/author is great in different themes in storytelling..in Kaguya-sama its more romcom..for Oshi No ko...its just hits deep
Who ever thought of making the first episode 80 minutes long needs a fucking raise. If the episode ended earlier it wouldn't have the same punch to it. The manga fans would have spoiled the tragic moments.
The MC is fire. When the change happens to the MC (and you’ll know when it happens) I was so surprised that it switched my current state from THAT scene (you’ll know) to one of pure, absolute joy knowing what will happen in the end.

Reading these comments as an older weeb is really eye opening. It feels like yesterday I was listening to Podtaku and taking mental notes to watch LoTGH and all the Gundams lest I not be a ‘true’ weeb. These days the audience seems much more in tune with anime/manga than the creators. I guess it just shows that anime has truly become mainstream which makes me a little sad in a selfish way 😅
i have been an avid watcher of anime and reader of light novels since 2015 and I say that since then the popularity has exploded especially around 2018/2019 or so
@@Gokaes The timeline makes sense what with the popularity of social media and anime being more accessible. It’s just bittersweet reminiscing about the good ol’ days where you’d have to rip dvds, watch shitty (amazing?) fan subs, and discover new anime through amv’s 😔

I've met some "famous" musicians from my country because my dad used to work organizing tours and I was honestly surprised by how much the fame made them act in rather bizarre ways, it's like they can no longer relax and just live, they're constantly performing even when they're off the stage. It's pretty sad honestly, for random strangers to have actual power over their lives because they have to keep an image or their whole career can collapse on itself.
Well it's like being in the middle of a tug of war. On the one end when in public you are pretty much expected to be always "on" not breaking your image, but at the same time when you aren't in public you have an insane amount of power over people due to your fame. Often you can make or break those with lesser status and many people will willingly cross their own moral and emotional barriers just to get your momentary attention. So unimaginable stress and power all wrapped into one and you have a recipe for disaster for both the star and those around them.
It subtly reminded me of the talk during trash taste how garnt envied connor for being able to stream any game without losing traction, whereas garnt can’t do that since his fandom is well, anime based.

Oshi no Ko is so damn good. You can tell Aka has a ton of stories to tell that don't fit in Kaguya, and the combination of showbiz drama, character relationships and murder mystery is enthralling.

I actually started to read this manga after you guys talked about it in the manga awards and got hooked on the the 3rd chapter, I also feel like it will get an adaptation with in a year or 2
I read it when The Boys talked about it in After Dark. It is SO good. Also, when Akane did her "research" on Ai, it hit me different and I have been stanning Akane. The crazy part about "cancel culture" is you don't even have to be a celebrity to get cancelled. I work in both education and counseling and they both have minefields to navigate to avoid losing your job and getting blacklisted.
It’s in fact the little guy who isn’t in the public eye who hurt the most. Famous people on average have the ability to bounce back. Unknowns more often don’t.
I know it's more complicated and there's always the possibility of false positives, but so often it feels like the "trick" is just not to be a POS. For the people who insist on being POSes anyway, it's just a matter of not getting caught being one, and yes that certainly can be a minefield I'm sure.
I just read 115 chapters in one sitting and whatched the first episode of the anime the manga is getting real spicy the latest chapter gave us a crazy cliff hanger
4:17 As someone who loved Act-Age, I felt called out. At the time of the incident, I saw a few people recommending this manga to others that wanted something similar, but I really couldn't be bothered to think about that at that moment. But I think I'll take the recommendation this time.
Act-Age is one of my favorite manga ever. Oshi no Ko isn’t necessarily a direct replacement to Act-Age, but it is still has some of the acting aspect of it while not being the main focus.
absolute pain, Act-Age was the best manga between all the trash isekai i found, it was really fun, sad the author is a twat tho, just hoping the victim doesn't get traumatized

Gigguk. From the bottom of my heart. I wish you read and make a review on the “100 girlfriends who really, really, really, really, really love you”. I am absolute, 100% certain that it will become if not one of your favourites, then one of the best comedies you have read or watched in a long time.

Finally this unrated series is finally getting recognition. The thing I liked about this manga is that everything feels natural even the serious scenes, actually making you care for the characters. Instead of being forced and cringe unlike other series im not gonna name because ill start a riot....
It's not underrated just because it doesn't have an anime, though. It's one of the most popular manga series, with new chapters bringing huge discussion on every manga forum.
Gigguk made a contract with the future devil. Also, even with the slight plot you gave here I'd never have guessed where it would go in the first episode. My heart is in pain
Dear god, k-pop psychos are about the worst thing imaginable. It's as if hard-core weebs had kids with devout evangelists and they all know how to use the internet.
Ehhh problem is now weebs are acting like those groups toward VTubers, who ARE real people. So given the opportunity weebs will be just as pathetic, it seems
The end of volume 1 got me so so depressed, every time a new chapter gets translated, my heart just drops in fear of what happens now, even if I know it's past what happened then.
11:21 Well, there's an ongoing manga called "I Fell in Love, So I Tried Livestreaming" that actually does have a character who is a vtuber and it goes into her aspirations, anxieties, etc. The same applies for the other content creators in that manga. It's actually pretty good. Also the vtuber is best girl.
Just after it got the prologue of this anime, I want to thank Gigguk and the whole commentary section. Thank you for letting non readers discover with a heartfelt the harsh twist of the beginning of this story. The experience was heartbreaking and amazing.
I though replacing a word in the title with GOD was something only we spanish talking people did. (To be clear, we dont use the spanish word for God, "Dios", we use the "God" word directly, a "spanglish" scenario)
@@sebastianchavez1225 Yup. I also thought the idea will not be that clear, because it's more like a Spanish joke. That doesn't mean the series isn't a 20/10
Absolutely this, Oshi no Ko is fantastic and I’d 100% recommend it to anyone who watches this kind of UA-cam video. And yeah the cancellation plot line was fantastic.
I'd love to know if the story covers the fact that the audience is also dehumanized and looked at as a commodity. It goes both ways and the stars, Gigguk included, don't treat us as people either. We are a metric and a resource to be obtained through the service they provide and the fake personal connections they can cultivate with that audience. It has always been that way, from prostitution to Hollywood to streamers. Different mediums and outputs, same social engineering practices.
Oooh! Excellent comment. I was tempted to say something like "Yeah, you know. All part of the human condition." Like, sure it sucks that we openly acknowledge that all of humanity has deep desire to connect with someone and belong somewhere. More to the point, it's a bummer that we skillfully manipulate that inbuilt need for any number of reasons (money, in the case of prostitution, Hollywood stars and streamers). But I agree. Lol I mean, I mostly agree. I am slightly troubled by fact that 'chronic loneliness' in the modern age is on the rise. For instance, (per a Kurzgesagt on the issue) "In the UK, 60% of 18 to 34 year old's say that they often feel lonely." And the avenues people take to fill that void often make me feel super sorry for them. But at the same time, I'm kind of like "Ehh... You'll get over it, homie. Take a walk and pick up a hobby." Hah I don't particularly care about the ennui of strangers. At the same time, I acknowledge that taking advantage of lost souls might be problematic, but it might also be ambitious and enterprising. Lol I respect the hustle. Besides, as long as it's consensual and no one gets hurt, I could care less about whatever weird paths the general public takes to get by.
This is far and away the most self aware comment I’ve ever read. Parasocial relationships work both ways. I mean just look at hololive, they’re making mad bank off of this very concept.
Man it is so crazy. After just reading the manga, you have predicted a coverage about Vtubers and also predicted an anime adaptation. I suppose it was very apparant that this was the right step following the storyline.
I don’t know if anyone else noticed but I LOVED the new style of background editing. The trash taste references, the bitch lasagna edit, the critikal clip, the background music of that idubbz diss track, and just clips that garnt clearly just watched and wanted to put into the video. :)

@@Luis-kv8zc Yeah, it's really good. Gigguk didn't say it because of spoilers but the main plot revolves around a revenge story related to Ai. There's also some romcom but it gets very realistic when it comes to portrayal of the messier side of the entertainment industry. It doesn't pull any punches. Totally recommend it if you're up for some mystery and revenge story with actors and idols.
in my opinion oshi no koi is a lot more similar to the manga kasane than act age, as it focuses more on stage acting and other stuff rather than purely modern acting, also the murder plot and mind games as well. kasane really does need to be more popular
I think it's true, no one is immune to it. However, there are those that take steps to crush dissent before it can happen. That's what griffy does. No one took the "cancelling" seriously because he's always done huge and controversial topics.

Best take I’ve seen yet. People need to see this
short answer is yes
This is far and away the most self aware comment I’ve ever read. Parasocial relationships work both ways. I mean just look at hololive, they’re making mad bank off of this very concept.
just like in dojins fker and beingfker are often dehumanized and neglected for the fking
Man it is so crazy. After just reading the manga, you have predicted a coverage about Vtubers and also predicted an anime adaptation. I suppose it was very apparant that this was the right step following the storyline.
I just want to know what happens if Aqua ever pulls up on his dad
Me: *finally gets the courage to talk to my crush
Gigguk: She doesn't Love you.
I don’t know if anyone else noticed but I LOVED the new style of background editing. The trash taste references, the bitch lasagna edit, the critikal clip, the background music of that idubbz diss track, and just clips that garnt clearly just watched and wanted to put into the video. :)
Trash taste had given him the financial freedom to do whatever he wants
this is why i love gigguk. he makes me laugh, feel things and think, at the same time, about things that i am really passionate about. Thanks dude. massive respect!
I just watched the first episode of the anime adaptation and now watching this. I can't get enough.
Wait so the mangaka decided to make Kaguya-sama, and another manga, AND compete in an Apex tournament ? What a legend
Although he is “only” writing this one, (only with a ton of “ “) I agree he is a mad lad
Living the best life lmao
And also took many breaks in the process lmao. If he's taking a break everyone's like "Is there an Apex event or competition coming up?!" Then turns out there really is. Being a mangaka is just his side job lol.
My word for this manga is.
"Aka you absolute Madman!!!!"
Also, Kana is best girl indeed !!!! #teamkanna
They’re all great but Kana is my undisputed best girl
@@dawnstorm1494 I have only read volume 1 of this manga.
And at the end she was stabbed and died. Will she reincarnated too .I'm just asking. Please tell me.
@@PriyanshuDotCom you're thinking of the wrong girl
@@PriyanshuDotCom u are talking about Ai? No she never combing back 🙄
@@shounenkyo we don't know yet since the manga's still ongoing.
The acting is so well drawn it's actually insane. I caught up to it like 2 days ago and want more so badly.
Relatable, Akane is best girl
I saved reading this manga for later when I watched this video back then, now that I'm caught up. All I can say is that was a whole roller-coaster of emotions and completely worth it. Also based Gigguk, Kana is totally best girl.
So is it not another Scum's Wish? From what I heard from Anime Zone, it seems like one of those things that sorta just fishes for "damn, that's tough" and 'empty" feelings. Would like to hear back with an honest opinion!
As much as I've love and reread "Oshi no Koi" I can't help but be reminded of how much of a masterpiece "Act Age" was.
Yes i was devastated when i heard that the author was a shithole
Act age is 💯💯
It's a masterpiece of a manga. The author ruined his budding career by touching some girls.
in my opinion oshi no koi is a lot more similar to the manga kasane than act age, as it focuses more on stage acting and other stuff rather than purely modern acting,
also the murder plot and mind games as well.
kasane really does need to be more popular
@@voltz8945 Still following the artist but she hasn't started any other major projects. Also no new volumes of act age will ever be published.
"No one is immune to cancel culture"
LongbeachGriffy: And I took that personal
more like jschlatt
I think it's true, no one is immune to it. However, there are those that take steps to crush dissent before it can happen. That's what griffy does. No one took the "cancelling" seriously because he's always done huge and controversial topics.
As funny as it is...he could probably only be canceled by no longer being himself. Don't know if he has to continue pushing the limits (people get bored of the same thing after a while) or if he just has to continue to hit that comedic sweet spot but man definitely has an edge on a lot of creat.
Also longbeachgriffy: i'm sorry if my video triggered you ,i'll take it down pls don't cancel me because of what my friend did to that young girl .
Making dark humor videos doesn't make you immune to cancel culture ,you'll get bent over like everybody else if you really fucked up
Lol glad longbeachgriffy gets so much recognition now😭but he never cared bout being canceled😂 even his older videos were wild “LETS START SUBTRACTINGGGGGGGG”
This manga was so underrated. Glad that Gigguk made a video about it.
*Gasppppp*
Someone with my pfp!!!

Yes
*So the manga is finished already?*
Just binged the entire (available) series just now. Thank you for this journey in which I am still on.
I can already tell this is going to be one of those mangas I annoy everyone by geeking out, and ranting about it after I finished reading it.
Anime Zone
This guy gets it
I came back to rewatch this video after watching the first episode and I must say that the anime did a great job in the anime adaptation. Especially in the emotional scenes
Thanks, Gigguk! These days, I seldom find time to *actually watch* anime or be childishly excited about it, like I was ten years ago or so. And yet you somehow manage to get me so giddy I jump around like a fangirl on my tippy-toes. I appreciate that! Can't wait for Oshi no Ko!
this feels like it's going to be one of the mangas like domekano where my heart hurts the whole time but i can't put it down
Such an underrated series! Been reading it after seeing a comment mention it. I forget exactly where, but I think it was under a Perfect Blue video, which gives an idea of what readers are in for (albeit the psychological horror elements aren't as central/intense).
I'm wondering what your definition for "underrated" is, considering how highly popular and highly rated this series is.
@@SuperZura91
That's a good point! I wouldn't say I'm the best judge at what's underrated/overrated (I only just guessed it's underrated since it's not talked about around by the few anime/manga fans I know, lol). ^^;
I'm so glad I listened to you when you suggested Oshi No Ko and Frieren. Both have anime adaptations now and I'm pretty sure they're going to stick around for a long time
I’ve been reading Oshi No Ko week by week since January and ITS FUCKING AMAZING!! Kana is best girl btw ;)
No truer words have been said

....
Yes, Kana is indeed best girl
I literally started reading this manga a week or two before you made this video, and I'm so glad you did. The manga had an amazing flow despite how weird and crazy the beginning was, and dealt with topics well and showed the truth behind a lot of today's online world with influential people online and the people they work to impress, the audience. I can't wait for more
I randomly found it this summer when I first dipped my feet into manga. Honestly it was amazing.
Coming back to the original video that got me into reading this masterpiece of a manga. The anime is looking great and would hopefully continue doing so. Thank you garnt for recommending this roller-coaster ride of a reading experience. Couldn't have done that without ya.
I'm really happy you've brought this manga up since I started following it early on
