Good review.😊
I know companies have to turn a profit in order to stay in business but when they use crap materials in order to make money they won't be around very long. I certainly hope BPS watches your review and takes notes. I certainly would not spend hard earned money on this knife after seeing your review. You get a big thumbs up from me for your honesty.
Thanks
I have 3 bps knives in 1055 with scandi grinds they came scary sharp, and keep a decent edge, the sheaths are simple but well made. at an averag price of around £45 with postage they great to customise, I have added red g10 liners and swapped out the black screws for brass chicago screws. in conclusion I think the one you picked is not a good example of bps as a whole.
Like you, I prefer to buy my own review samples. That way you can be entirely honest, but also like you, I hate giving a negative review. After all, someone made this and it’s not nice to criticise their work. Kudos to you for calling it as you see it. Well done!
Great review mate 👍👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Pink Lady apples are my favorite! Your feather sticks are something to strive for. I need to practice more hah
Found comments about the handle useful,
Great review of this knife. I have the BPS Adventurer and was looking at this one to see if it would be a better fit for what I use it for. You just saved me some money.
The BPS Adventurer looks like a much better design for a thin blade knife
I respect you for putting in that wood splitting video at the end. Funny as Hell and reminds me of some of my own antics.
Don't tell anyone!!!!!
@@RobEvansWoodsman I will try not to, but you know how that goes.
Happy new year mate! Great review on an apparently not so great knife. But you should only give away things you like Rob! Then you can keep it if they don’t like it 😃
I'm not keeping this piece of crap 🤣🤣
@@RobEvansWoodsman 😂
Agree about the diafolds.
I have been looking at bps and wondering?
I have heard good and bad, but yes it would be very hard to beat a Mora! I do like the thought of wooden handles and leather sheath compared to plastic. Yes your video was definitely making me want a pink lady apple they are really good. And watch out for the shins mate!😅
Thanks Rob!
👍Great honest review Rob. My only real comment on the knife is, thankfully they are not available here 😉😅.
🤣🤣🤣
It’s a shame they didn’t put too much effort in making a functional sheath. 1066? Why not 1095 at least or O1…don’t understand these steel choices. Liked the review though. Well done!
It's cheap steel.
So in other words wait a little while before buying one so they can fix these details, ive heard others say the same things including DBK so I think theyll make the necessary changes. I doubt theyll work on the handle much but that would be outstanding if they did, I definitely agree micarta is the way to go these days and yes wood is cheaper but it just doesnt perform like micarta does. I will say that it is a very attractive knife and has great potential, especially if they make an XL version 🤣. Thanks for showing!
I'd wait to see what the Genuine DBK budget knife looks like, I'll review that too.
@@RobEvansWoodsman can't wait to see it!
Ive seen people unbolt the latch off the strap and after tightening it mark a new hole. Even a tighter strap with wet molding the knife would fall out...
Im wondering if you could get it tight enough around the thumb groove of the handle by trimming/boating the leather on the sheath to allow the strap to sink in more, and also maybe boat the strap itself so its narrower on the top length to sink down further into that groove. That would have to be tight enough to catch that lip on the handle.
I won't be doing anything to it, I'm giving it away.
A fair review.
I guess as far as BPS are concerned, the handle and sheath are quick fixes for the future if they wanted......but jeez, a sheath that doesn't secure the knife, nice leather or not - isn't worth a damn....and an upside down ferro rod holder is asking for trouble.
And that's a shame because somebody made those with good materials and pride.
Do you think they're targeting a younger audience with smaller hands at that price point?
1066 is about the lower limit for carbon knife steels but Condor use it a lot I've noticed - you just sharpen it more often I suppose?
Great vid mate - your usual quality.
Happy New year too.
I think they are just making a cheap knife with zero attention to detail, I really didn't want to slag the knife off too much because I'd sound like a nasty sod, I said enough to put my point across.
Hey Rob, when using the wood as a "strop" it appears that you're putting quite a bit of pressure on. As opposed to a leather strop where you don't need to press so hard. Is that correct? I assume so, since the wood doesn't have the same properties as the compound and leather... thx
PS: Watch yourself man, small axe fumble...
I always strop hard.
1066 is really not a steel I'd be happy with at any price point, something like 5160 in larger blades is okay, but I'd want atleast 1075/1080 if we're talking plain carbon steel. Would get 58-59 HRC at most in quench, and after a basic temper you're down to maybe 54-55 HRC. A basic Mora in 1090/12C27 would cost half and do much better. Only advantage I see with this is a leather sheathe (which isn't great either it seems).
Not a great tool.
Hi Rob, thanks for the review, good job as always. I've seen in other reviews that the handle loosened/moved a little after batoning. Did it happen to you ?
No but I wasn't very heavy handed with it because the thin ness of the blade concerned me.
Off topic question: I'm really into your intro theme song: is it yours?
Just something free from my editing software.
@@RobEvansWoodsman thank you for your reply.
How do I obtain a knife like your skandi with the red handle?
What is the name of it?
It's a MK2 tribute knife and you can email me to order one robevs73@googlemail.com or follow me on Instagram RobevansWoodsman and send me a PM on there.
I was considering getting this knife. Very mixed views online you just convinced me not to get one. Where can I purchase one of your knives bud. Great video
Email me robevs73@googlemail.com
They are four times the price.
Great video, thanks for your assessment Rob! I love watching the DBK guys, they have some great content. But it disturbs me that they would put their name behind such an obviously brain damaged ferro rod holder design!
I'll not state what I think about dbk, neither about Ukraine, but I bet you can imagine.
I try not to be political , I keep it strictly tools and skills. However I don't have a problem with the DBK boys, Martten and I have had several conversations via email and he's a top guy, channel is entertaining and helps show us what's available to buy. I'm not impressed with BPS knives.
@@RobEvansWoodsman they're fun guys for sure, but they SELL stuff: just my point of view.
I don't see anything special in this 'design' so I guess everybody can call themselves 'designer' these days. But everybody who makes a bush knife that's under 3mm thick, with a high saber grind and a soft steel isn't a bush man or mate. It just shows lack of real time bush experience and of course DBG (Dutch Bushcraft Girls) have no experience at all. BPS does make (and designs) decent knives for the outdoors but this one is a total miss.
BPS have taken the DBK design and made a really cheap and nasty version of it, I wouldn't be happy if I was DBK.
@@RobEvansWoodsman DBK agreed and get 10% of every sale and that's what they are all about. I don't mind people making a profit. But if you want to advice about outdoors knives I expect expertise or at least experience. They have neither but they did get 5 pound from your 50 pound knife.
I was unaware of this.
@@RobEvansWoodsman They explained it in their own video where they even broke the knife.
@@stevanoutdoor I did watch the video but it was a while ago and I forget things!
