    I put black Fender locking tuners on my black Squire Bullet Mustang HH.They cost more than the guitar but I've got an easy life and if I ever sell it I'll just re fit the stock tuners .Btw what a great guitar and only weighs 5.7lb highly recommended

    What do you think of the tuners after a year btw .Any better tuning stability or just easier of string changes ?

    • @RobertJene
      @RobertJene  4 місяці тому

      they have MUCH better tuning stability. However the B string still goes out of tune after playing a few songs, but I think that's due to the tuning I used.
      Maybe if I work on the nut it will get better.

    Wow, you're not great at guitar. I like it!!! So many on here play guitar to a pretty much unattainable level for us casual players. And tbh it nearly puts me off from even trying to play.
    My comment is a compliment to you btw.

    I'm genuinely jealous of your massive alien fingers - not even being nasty, I play bass and some guitar and my tiny little stumpy fingers are the bane of my existence. You've got at least an extra finger-joint worth of finger than me xD
    I'd proooobably recommend you adapt your pick-holding technique a bit, although if it genuinely works well for you then I guess it's not a big deal. I've seen a lot of great guitarists hold their pick in an odd way, but ideally you don't want to be using SO much wrist (some, of course) but it's a lot more ergonomic to engage your forearm more, get that elbow involved and it should be a fair bit more stable and consistent.
    But man! You can keep your thumb like right off the back of the neck, above the bloody fretboard and still hold those chords. SO jealous of the hand size >_

    • @RobertJene
      @RobertJene  3 місяці тому

      Oh yeah I do that with my thumb on purpose to stabilize myself.
      Albutbi have problems with precision picking
      For one, I can only pick down for some reason. Just how my train works.
      For precision picking, I put my thumb down like you said, and hold the high string with my pinky. Then my other fingers tend to be a little more precise.
      As for reaching frets... I can do wide... But then I get fret buzz because I can't had the strings down enough no matter how much I practice

    • @Ashfold_Eberesche
      @Ashfold_Eberesche 3 місяці тому +1

      @@RobertJene Ah yeah, I get that - on bass I can do 1 finger, 1 fret on the 1-7 frets but I have to really focus to get a clean note on my pinky when I'm stretching that far. If you're getting a buzz when stretching on guitar and truly can't get rid of it then there's a chance it's that your action is slightly too low? Although if it's literally ONLY when doing a wide fret stretch then I'd say you probably have an issue with hand position - perhaps take a look at some videos on hand position and see if you might need to correct the way you're fretting. It can be a pain when you realize you're doing something incorrectly and it's WAY easier in the short term to just go "Oh, I'll just do it my way" but then you sort of bake in a bad habit and it's much harder to break later on.
      When it comes to picking, one thing that I did to practice upstrokes was I'd fret a power chord and then practice picking in a 2 down, 1 up pattern with the 2 on the root note and the 1 on the 5th (So say 5th fret E string twice downwards and then 7th fret A string once upwards) and it also works as a nice simple exercise for playing different strings. And if you're struggling to alternate pick at all (1 down, 1 up back and forth) then it's definitely something that's worth practicing even though it's difficult at first. It's essentially the only way to play faster songs because it's just not feasible to downpick every note when you're playing 16th notes (unless you're James Hetfield of course)
      You mentioned building another guitar, how did that end up going? I'm doing a couple of projects at the moment - one Precision Bass which is nearly finished, just needs new electronics put in and I'm upgrading a Hello Kitty Squier Stratocaster because it's hilarious.

      @RobertJene  3 місяці тому

      oh that guitar kit - I've hit a mental block on it.
      The next step is sanding around the hard to reach parts.
      I got a sander the width of a finger - learned about it from the channel "guns n guitars"
      ~after that I have to set the bridge position. This is where the mental block comes from.
      I want to use a unique trem bridge but how do I set it?
      I know the scale length is from the nut to the point where the string touches the saddle.
      But it's also expensive, cost of bridge + routing templates is about $400 and I don't even have a router
      ~about doing 2 down 1 up, I might do that.
      kinda give me a better idea of what notes to play.
      my hands kinda only want to do about half a dozen shapes (fretting hand)
      there are only rare cases I can use my pinky.
      reason = I can spread my fingers but I lose strength.
      as... the fret buzz issue I have is on all guitars, not just one
      ~but if you give me a simple instruction for 2 down 1 up and tell me what frets to do on each finger, I can practice that

    Robert Jene You should add a comment about the thickness of the head stock. SQUIER STANDARD STRAT HEAD STOCKS ARE THICKER THAN FENDER STRATS. THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T BUY JUST ANY BRAND OR EVEN FENDER LOCKING TUNERS. THEY ARE TOO SHORT. I wasted $70 on a set of Hipshot locking tuners which are gathering dust in my closet. I even called Fender customer support and they don't have any connection with Squier - no help. What locking tuners did you buy from guitar fetish?
