I am a proud Wirrunumpi man and I say good on the Seven network for leaving out the welcome to country ceremony. It's contrived and does not represent our true feelings.
He said he had no sails... he had sails. He said he'd lost all communication systems... he had a Garmin GPS which would have his exact location on it and used it to talk to his sister twice a day. Does anyone actually believe anything he said? .
Seven sports, we're not sorry we didn't televise the welcome to country, we're sorry you're upset about it, a nothing apology that once again blames the punter.
I'm not a sailor and I've had minimal experience with travelling on the open ocean. I'm wondering if it was possible for him to stay in contact with family while out to sea, why they didn't contact Authorities on his behalf and let them know, where he was?
The day this was reported my friend said "why didn't he set off any flares or send an SOS" and I didn't know the whole story so I said perhaps he was in a big storm and lost his kit or something. When I first watched this, my very first instinct was that he didn't appear at all emotional. That's what seemed unbelievable to me. I brushed it off immediately because I did not have all the facts and who am I to have expectations on how people deal with life? I guess our guts were correct! I still prefer to think the best of people first though. Increasingly I'm proven to have wasted that energy though 😂
Everyone reacts differently, and it's all media staged. How emotional are you supposed to be for the cameras? When exactly do emotions hit? Anyway, in this case, it doesn't seem like he was completely lost, but when someone showed up to pick him up, he was grateful for it to be over.
@@Ausf most other lost at sea rescuees tend to be very emotional when they're first interviewed. That's what I was basing my initial reaction on. Pattern recognition.
I think he was having trouble running his boat and gave up and caught a lift when he saw the fishing boat..... He suddenly decided he was lost to get a ride to shore, before that he was just floating around trying to fix his boat without knowing how... :) Wouldn't surprise me if he starts a new business based on his 'rescue' fame, something new to try...
@MOC_DR aaaahhh yes I gleaned some of that from the snippets in this video. I wonder if he was all dazed & alone & the trawler company offered a little happy money if he'd beat his story up a bit. I don't blame him if that's the case. He does (after watching this video) seem like a bit of a lost soul & that's an unhappy existence. I wish him the best.
I was taken up with this story until I heard he didn't take the dog home with him. I know AU has strict quarantine rules, but it seemed weird to me that he wouldnt try to get the dog quarantined and bring her back with him
Barbie Movie was banned in Vietnam.... In the movie they changed the world map to show China owning all of SE Asia so Vietnam, Philippine's and others banned the movie... And good on them for doing it. This was done to pander to the Chinese market.
Haha .. as soon as I saw the video clip of him being rescued off his boat, the boat with the excellent mast and sails ready to be raised, it was apparent there was more to the story. Any average sailor could have proceeded to land from where he was.
Seems dodgy cause he was communicating with his family while he was 'lost' at sea and the rescue seems staged with the tuna vessel team talking in his ear after his rescue and everyone had to wear the tuna company hat at press conference
i wasnt suspicious its only in hindsight that i thought umm that was strange, like not looking relieved when found by the trawler, the dog looking so well surviving on rain water and raw fish was he really adrift for 3 months? also the way he was making out like 'whats all the fuss about' i was okay? when he was drifting aimslessly facing certain death for himself and his dog like he couldnt care less. Was this just a scam for money??this story that he was helpless when he really wasnt knowing he could get rescued and make a lot of money by selling his staged story to the media also having a dog as this makes the story all the more cute and cuddly a dog even though he couldnt give a shit about the dog and gave it away. The fact that the guy had a history of telling stories makes me think it is a not very well thought out scam and i'd like to know if the trawler was intentionally notified of his location by his sister as it appears that this seems more likely.
What I heard it was a helicopter that works for the trawler company saw his boat . As one person said in the comments : maybe the guy lost his marbles .
I note Paul Barry's pink Barbie themed checked shirt there. 😉I know a lot has been put into promotion for the movie, but I also think everyone is just enjoying something a bit light and fun for once. It's a well needed change of pace. I'm certainly planning a pink outfit when I go to see it. 😄And here's to celebrating the incredible success of an awesome Aussie actress, too! 🔥♥️
The scriptwriter at Media Watch perhaps doesn't realise that the only way this event gets on free TV is if Channel 7 pays a bucket of money for the rights. That's the business model.
In defence of the Telegraph ( and thats rare), in context, they are probably saying kids should not see these things on the street where they live on the way to school. Its different seeing a picture. We see all types of death in the media all the time, and kids are exposed to that. But its entirely on another level ti see the real thing near your front gate.
Maybe Optus bought the rights to the ceremony and due to that 7 weren’t able to show the live broadcast - being in the media you would know this is how things are done, why not pose that as a possibility?
Seven's world cup coverage is dismal. The match call is second rate and the pre/half time/post match commentary should not be hosted by poor old Bruce. Athletics, sure. Has Bruce ever been to a soccer match? He just looked totally out of place with those other women who knew far more about the game than he did. Mel McLaughlin has been doing this for years, why is this bloke there at all? Compared to SBSs recent Tour de France coverage this is very amateurish.
The sailor story always struck me as a propaganda piece to promote sympathy towards unemployed rich people gallivanting around the ocean in expensive boats. The media is very careful to paint the rich as deserving and ensure there is never a question of fairness for their usually inherited wealth.
The Barbie movie was a genuine global phenomenon. Great marketing, but why criticise media outlets for joining in the hype? It's commercial TV not BBC documentaries. They jump on crazes to boost their ratings. Bah, humbug!
Did the broadcaster in New Zealand show the cultural ceremony before the Football Ferns first game? Did channel 7 show that to the Australian audience? I'm interested to know how indigenous people are being treated on both sides of the pond.
7 really walked into that one. What else would they expect. Of course that would have caused offense. Very disappointing and insulting on the effort that went into putting that together.
I hardly ever agree with Sky/Fox News. But they were spot on about Barbie. I took my daughter to see it and the way it demonised men was awful. Making out that our world has been destroyed by the Patriarchy and Barbies world created by women is perfect and the way the real world needs to be.
We men werent demonised by it, it just made us the well deserving butt of the joke. I guess some people cant stand satire, if they arent on the winning side of it.
