to me this game is kinda like the sonic frontiers of neptunia. after half a decade, there's finally an attempt at a "main series" game that shows promise but still lacks polish in many areas. Overall a good direction for the series and a fun game imo
@usefulscrews Yeah, Neptunia really is the Sonic of JRPGs where most of the games are either mediocre or bad at best. It literally makes Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam look good.
@usefulscrews I think it was actually after Dream Team instead of Paper Jam for the Mario & Luigi series because Dream Team still had originality and was challenging, even if it had to default to Bowser being the final boss.
Even if this is a spin-off of Nepgear, It gives me hope that Idea Factory is taking this series into a better direction, I was convinced this was a mainline title based on the story, I hope we get more Neptunia games exactly like this one.

The creation of discs in this game is the coolest compared to previous games. You take the genre, choose the developer and the theme of the game, and focusing on real games, you can create AAA games without manuals. In the old games, you first needed to find a drive (flash drive, cartridge, disks, etc.) and they had different amounts of space for chips that had buffs. If an AAA game was created, then he received an additional bonus, and if he created a conditional cheetahmen, then a debuff.
@@angelicplay3419 I'm trying to complete the achievement with making class B games while 3 disks have been created, but I'm getting A and triple A games. Peoples say that you need to combine a genre and a developer who specializes in a different genre of games, and then the chance of creating an average quality game will increase.
Honestly, I think you really undersold Disc Creation. While you are right that you can just grind and overlevel to trivialize everything...there are a number of abilities you get exclusively from Disc Creation that really improve combat flow. To a point where I legitimately think the gameplay feels pretty bad to play without them. For instance, these are the ones I had on practically everyone: Side Step Cancel - side-step to cancel out of recovery animations, very good for Nepgear when she's occasionally stuck solo Rush/Break/Power Cancel - reduced recovery times for the respective attack types Combo Loop - loops the end of the combo route back to the beginning to continue it (3rd attack back to 1st attack) Combo Striping - swap between the A and B combo routes at any time (A First Strike, B 1st attack, B 2nd attack, A 3rd attack) If you combine all of that together, the game feels so much more open and flows smoother. I almost want to say most of this should have been stuff you had starting out by default cause they are that massive of a game changer. Especially with chaining and skills added on top. And then there's just other stuff that generally help like the skill gauge refilling faster, CPU transformations lasting longer, better drop rates, chain multipliers increasing more, a double side-step, side-step invincibility, guarding hits recovering AP, perfect guarding, etc.
Only played through the first dungeon so far but loving hearing the English cast and music again! Combat feels clunky but could be I just haven’t quite figured it out yet.
Glad you enjoyed it because I've seen quite conflicting reviews. Some people seem to hate it but others think it's the best nep game. I kinda regret buying at full price tho. Well, technically not at full price since the game was 10% off on Steam at launch but still. The problem with Neptunia games (and Compile Heart games in general) is how janky they are. People like us, who are used to niche anime games, brush off some of this janky ness in favor of other things these games brings to the table. But last year I spend most of my time playing Dragon Quest 11, one of the most tightly constructed JRPG of recent years, and I'll say it's tough getting back to Nep games, especially this one.
Interesting how they took the story/new characters. The real time combat is surprising I forget what the website/previews said. The Item usage confirm is interesting how many games do NPCs/allies use your items at least the player had control here even if can be annoying it's better than them being wasted and wondering why and the characters consume too many. You're so lucky to have it I kept getting stuck at "label created not yet in system" I'm so tired of being there I'm the only one who's left out because of this :(
I like the new battle system but they need to improve on the block/dodge mechanic. It just dosen't feel good hence why i don't use them so often. Also save points should heal when you interact with them or at least healed when you are on the world map. That the PS5 version runs at a 30fps is inexcusable and shouldn't be a thing. The difficulty seems ok too. I feared that the game forces you to grind in order to beat certain bosses.
I'm liking the game, it's similar 4 Goddesses Online but I preferred Super Neptunia RPG by quite a lot. It lacks some humor and many conversations arent dubbed. But the gameplay is nice although a bit repetitive. The story is surpsingly serious and heartfelt. My favorite spin offs are still Supwr Neptunia RPG, Vs Sega Hard Girls (which dealt with time loops and dungeons more efficiently) and Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies because of the fan service and quirky writing.
@@aasuka oh and if you want to you can play VII after or while you are playing SVS cause VII is an awesome game but you don’t have to if you don’t want to!
I haven't played it but I do kinda wish they had stuck with the turn based battle system. I hate seeing another turn based RPG turn into an action game again
As a relatively new fan of Neptunia after going through the Re;Birth games, Neptunia VII and Goddesses Online, this game felt pretty...eh. Story was fine and i liked the exploration. It was better than what we had before. Combat, however, was a big miss. It tried too hard to be like FFVII Remake and it felt disjointed and clunky at times. Its not the worst, but far from the best. Re;Birth3 and VII were still the best
My biggest gripe in the game is only having 3 characters in battle. Thats some backwards stuff going back to Neptunia 1 and ReBirth days. It should always be 4 so can field the Goddesses or the Goddess Candidates or a combo of the two. I always liked using Nep, Nepgear, Noire and Uni and now I cant
Having no cars actually fits a scifi utopia, having no trams doesnt. Cars are loud and dangerious and inefficient. Also the japanese might drive on the left side of the road but I will forever say that Planetpune uses the standard right side.
idk.. big fan of the old ones, still not convinced, they took away everything that was spectacular, transformations, special attacks, they're bland like shitty western games...
I mean, yeah. What did you expect? We haven't had a good spinoff since Super Nep RPG. And beyond that, games like 4GO are also not that good. Its not a hard observation to make.
IF/CH already said this is a spin-off and the endings will not count to future main games, this can be confuse because this is the first time they are using the main timeline and dimension to make a spin off, Uzume and Plutia are mentioned by Iff to making us know this is a direct continuation of V2, the previous spinoffs are placed in different dimensions. Noire game, PP, Vtber game, Sega HG, 4GO, ActionU. all of them are placed in different dimensions.
Not really. The premise of this game is that all the main characters have been asleep for a while so their sisters have to take over. But that won't mean much to you if you've never played a Neptunia game before.
Whilst it does look spectacular in 4K, the real beauty of the graphical style used by Neptunia games is they still look gorgeous in high-end SD/ low-end HD (like the qHD of the Vita.......540p iirc).
one thing to note is there's almost no fanservice in this game, which is quite a shame (VII has so many bath scene you thought whole game is about a anime hot spring episode), ALSO, WHERE IS UZUME MY GIRL?
Game looks great! Picked this up day one! Haven't played it just yet though. The only thing that upset me was the exclusive inclusion of the bathingsuit dlc. There is no way to purchase it separately so for people that prefer to own the physical edition of these games your shit out of luck.... So I was basically forced into buying the digital deluxe version and a physical copy. Just Bad business practices that have become the new standard for the industry....
spin-off or not, it definitely feels mainline just from the tone of the story alone, and i actually quite missed that since vii. SvS doesnt even have fanservice and a lot of the usual jokes got toned down quite a lot.
I barely got the PSVITA this month and I’m trying to focus on the 3 Re;Birth games (more specifically Re;Birth 2) before actually playing this on the PS4. As I do with some upcoming titles in other series of something, I’ll just have to wait for Sisters VS Sisters to be on sale before actually getting it and let it chill in the library for now.🤔😯
i hope they change what they are really saying in japanese. In previous games they changed the dialogs of the characters to make them more funny but one of the latest games seemed boring to me because they made a 1 on 1 translation from japanese thus having almost no jokes (super neptunia RPG). i remember sega hard girls with neptunia saying "im back!" in japanese but being an extended joke in the english version with added a funny moment in a tense situation.
Nice review! I'm glad you covered this game in detail especially that it has dual audio which many reviewers leave out for some reason. I was on the fence about buying it till now. Now that I own a Steam Deck, I'm wanting to purchase the LE for the Steam Deck and unlock any Trading Cards and Background profiles it may have along with the achievements!
"Best Nep game in a while" ... that doesn't really say much, considering that the recent games have been mediocre at best (and that is being kind) I want another Hiperdevotion Noir, or just an SRPG for the Nep gang A proper continuation of the main story would be good too
Nepnep raises her hand to point at you is enough reason to buy this game. And the fact that this story follows Vii is really cool cuz I like that one the most.
Ah, so the combat is more like Tales of Berseria this time around with action combat in a limited area that loads when you touch an enemy. And looks like IF is still treating fans outside of Japan as second class customers. Another entry within the series that gives us only snippets of voice acting while the Japanese get a full voiceover. To me that means I'll not buy it before it's at least 70% off like I did with most Neptuinia games. Except for the last two(V-Tuber and SK Crossover) that didn't have any English voices at all, so I won't play them unless somebody gifted them to me, because I'm not buying them even if they're on sale!
7:40 wow that is pretty cool, i can totally see an party doing that (especially characters like rom) they found an to allow npcs to use players itens, the other options would be make then too dumb or waste resources that you wouldnt if you control then, it also make more sense than you controling the entire party.
FINALLY got my copy today...i don't know why ordering from IFI is always such a debacle for me...but really liking it so far, glad to be back in the main timeline, glad to finally have the candidates back, combat seems fun if a bit janky, finally getting a game in english again is nice. Pretty happy in general.
hot take maybe, but I wish they'd make a nep game with turn based combat like the re;birth games and VII again. I don't really like the rest of the games and while I tried some of them I didn't find any of them interesting enough to actually beat them. I'll probably still get this one and try it when it's on sale, but I don't have great expectations.
Great to finally see this franchise finally make serious improvements in its visuals. Especially the Live2D models. Those scenes look soo much better in this game than they have in most previous games. It is a real shame that still after this many years, they dont fully english dub the Neptunia games
Also, while the Transformation sequences and Level up screens have been shortened/removed, it has made getting in and out of battle much faster. I would have liked a toggle for full Transformation sequences, like a short/long version, but as it stands, it does mean it's faster, and given how much grind there is usually in Nep games, it's "begrudgingly" welcomed. Long unskippable Transformations would've been a lot more worse during the many hours of grind imho and honestly unless it was super satisfying to watch like the old games, it'd probably get tiresome. There IS a toggle in the options menu but I never bothered to see what it did, it might disable the transformation altogether, I don't know. With that said, if that's what that does then... Yeah, longer, more "bigger" transformations would've been nice if there's already a clear way to disable them. I just like having the option for grinding, but if I don't, then at least make it "to the point".
I'm here back again to say THANK YOU COMPILE HEART / IDEA FACTORY AND ALL DEVELOPERS TO THIS GREAT GAME! I REALLY LOVE IT! This game is to good for this world! I really enjoyed it! This game deserves a Sisters vs Sisters 2 sequel!
Its a japanese game... they basically invented gatcha games. Knowing that, do you honestly think japanese devs would even consider going "consoles good, smartphones bad" route? Especially when they have a neptunia gatcha game in japan... So all of this is pretty much expected.
I didn’t like the vtuber game and the senran kagura crossover was extremely underwhelming, but this game is great. Certainly a step in the right direction. I hope the next game builds off of it.
Then I have good news for you. The next game is already officially announced and builds off Sisters vs Sisters: ua-cam.com/video/PgoVK0sIVdI/v-deo.html
I've only played Neptunia Victory and Four Goddesess and felt like that was enough for me. I enjoyed my time but didn't care to come back. I think I'm gonna give this one a shot.
So far everything is better but battle system is too slow. Say have you ever played ys lacrimosa of dana there the battles are easy and you control everything. i would love to see that in future nep games.
How did IF get all those panty shots past the Sony censors???? Honestly I wasn't planning on getting this but I hear mostly good things even from people who were very critical about the last couple of games.
the combat is throwing me off. i always loved the turned based systems, especially in v2. oh well, if you play neptunia games, you know you gotta get used to whatever new things they're trying. 🤷🏾♂

Also save points should heal when you interact with them or at least healed when you are on the world map. That the PS5 version runs at a 30fps is inexcusable and shouldn't be a thing. The difficulty seems ok too. I feared that the game forces you to grind in order to beat certain bosses.
it feels like once you start attacking it's committed to it so it's all in or nothing unless you get damaged during it
The games always make us grind.
Yeah i hate that I can’t dodge unless I’m not attacking only downside
@@SoFreshNSerene u can dodge during attacks u need certain disks for that.
This game looks epic! Gotta get it in the future.
Hello can i play this before Neptunia VII?
if you at least played Rebirth2/mk2 then you can
If you don’t have access to that then you should probably play VII before playing this game
@@ausername8770 So far I played Rebirth 1 & 2 and a couple of spin-offs. Thanks!
@@aasuka of course!
@@aasuka oh and if you want to you can play VII after or while you are playing SVS cause VII is an awesome game but you don’t have to if you don’t want to!
I literally agree, this new Neptunia is just amazing 💜
Wow. It's Rena Ryugu. I want this game now.
I haven't played it but I do kinda wish they had stuck with the turn based battle system. I hate seeing another turn based RPG turn into an action game again
Oh I'm hyper jealous of that limited edition.
Wait the Neptunia Reimu is actually Reimu!?
As a relatively new fan of Neptunia after going through the Re;Birth games, Neptunia VII and Goddesses Online, this game felt pretty...eh. Story was fine and i liked the exploration. It was better than what we had before. Combat, however, was a big miss. It tried too hard to be like FFVII Remake and it felt disjointed and clunky at times. Its not the worst, but far from the best. Re;Birth3 and VII were still the best
I hope it sells well over here. No word on that yet. Game quality is the best since VII at least.
I also hope it sells well!
Seems like a great next step for the Neptunia series and I'd be excited to see where the series goes from here!
Its because a 4th character would be to enormous
My biggest disappointment is the 30 fps on PS5
Having no cars actually fits a scifi utopia, having no trams doesnt. Cars are loud and dangerious and inefficient.
Also the japanese might drive on the left side of the road but I will forever say that Planetpune uses the standard right side.
idk.. big fan of the old ones, still not convinced, they took away everything that was spectacular, transformations, special attacks, they're bland like shitty western games...
No 60fps on ps5 is really a dealbreaker.
may have to get this on discount since ihave sooo much backlogs already Y_Y
I mean, yeah. What did you expect? We haven't had a good spinoff since Super Nep RPG. And beyond that, games like 4GO are also not that good. Its not a hard observation to make.
Technically speaking what actually makes this a spinoff? Thanks for the great videos
Does this make a good first Neptunia game?
Not really. The premise of this game is that all the main characters have been asleep for a while so their sisters have to take over. But that won't mean much to you if you've never played a Neptunia game before.
The very first game doesn't but chances are you don't have a PS3 to experience it. So Re;Birth 1 is a good start. If you owned a PS3 it would be mk2.
Whilst it does look spectacular in 4K, the real beauty of the graphical style used by Neptunia games is they still look gorgeous in high-end SD/ low-end HD (like the qHD of the Vita.......540p iirc).
My only gripe so far is my fav characters aren't here as far as I can tell atleast
It’s a good start in the right direction in the series needs a new engine or improve the performance so the lag is less obvious
one thing to note is there's almost no fanservice in this game, which is quite a shame (VII has so many bath scene you thought whole game is about a anime hot spring episode),
ALSO, WHERE IS UZUME MY GIRL?
Game looks great! Picked this up day one! Haven't played it just yet though. The only thing that upset me was the exclusive inclusion of the bathingsuit dlc. There is no way to purchase it separately so for people that prefer to own the physical edition of these games your shit out of luck.... So I was basically forced into buying the digital deluxe version and a physical copy. Just Bad business practices that have become the new standard for the industry....
Can someone confirm if there is a free ps5 upgrade?
Been playing this for about 7 days, having a blast.
Do u have issue where character an in main menu move on own not my controller
spin-off or not, it definitely feels mainline just from the tone of the story alone, and i actually quite missed that since vii. SvS doesnt even have fanservice and a lot of the usual jokes got toned down quite a lot.
I hope the ps4 version runs decent on a ps4 slim x.x if not ill have to upgrade to a ps5 copy in future when i get the system.
do they remove nepgear lilac transofrmation?
Unfortunately, yes! And there are no other processor units in this stupid game or any other horrible games.
Is it weird that my game would freeze randomly?
Finally, been waiting for a professional take on this game.
I barely got the PSVITA this month and I’m trying to focus on the 3 Re;Birth games (more specifically Re;Birth 2) before actually playing this on the PS4. As I do with some upcoming titles in other series of something, I’ll just have to wait for Sisters VS Sisters to be on sale before actually getting it and let it chill in the library for now.🤔😯
5:51 nice trick!
i hope they change what they are really saying in japanese.
I wish they make another really big game like Megadimension again 😢 so many characters, scenes, story.
"Best Nep game in a while" ... that doesn't really say much, considering that the recent games have been mediocre at best (and that is being kind)
I want another Hiperdevotion Noir, or just an SRPG for the Nep gang
A proper continuation of the main story would be good too
Treasures "lying around", not "laying around."
Nepnep raises her hand to point at you is enough reason to buy this game. And the fact that this story follows Vii is really cool cuz I like that one the most.
Unbelievable!
As it is on PlayStation, how bad censorship in this game?
There is none actually. I was surprised too.
The english cast returning is the reason I bought the game and there is hardly any of it and it makes me just not want to play.
hot take maybe, but I wish they'd make a nep game with turn based combat like the re;birth games and VII again. I don't really like the rest of the games and while I tried some of them I didn't find any of them interesting enough to actually beat them. I'll probably still get this one and try it when it's on sale, but I don't have great expectations.
This
Great to finally see this franchise finally make serious improvements in its visuals. Especially the Live2D models. Those scenes look soo much better in this game than they have in most previous games.
It is a real shame that still after this many years, they dont fully english dub the Neptunia games
They haven't improved anything. Jesus!
Based
Also, while the Transformation sequences and Level up screens have been shortened/removed, it has made getting in and out of battle much faster.
Damn I’m the fence about this one
I've been waiting for this before getting the game. :) Thanks for the great review, this is probably a buy for me soon.
They said the game sucks, but I don't give a damn, really.
Looks really fun as always cant wait to play it, now if only grinding the lily ranks in mk2 was a bit faster so I could finaly move on to Victory
So far everything is better but battle system is too slow.
Say have you ever played ys lacrimosa of dana there the battles are easy and you control everything. i would love to see that in future nep games.
Nepu!
Felt like IF CE doesn't worth the price, it's so expensive very generic contents.
How did IF get all those panty shots past the Sony censors???? Honestly I wasn't planning on getting this but I hear mostly good things even from people who were very critical about the last couple of games.
The only review I was waiting for.
Thanks for your input, now... Time to get the game! ♪♫
the combat is throwing me off. i always loved the turned based systems, especially in v2. oh well, if you play neptunia games, you know you gotta get used to whatever new things they're trying. 🤷🏾♂
But mobile is just bad. Absent of a dedicated playerbse to threaten boycots over predetory practices mobile games are absolutely terrible compared to regular ones.
