    Looks like you are off to a great start. Can't wait to see how these turn out. I have started some lettuce for winter. Not sure if t hey will make it through out the whole winter but now is the best time to try to get some sweet lettuce.

    Hello Brian, Not sure if you know it but Radicchio is a lettuce. You lumped it in with your cabbages. It tastes like endive, a bit bitter but tasty. We in the States pronounce it re-deek key-oh, but you guys pronounce things a bit different. Here in NY I've just barely survived a very hot, very dry 2 months of drought, no rain but once or twice a 10 minute shower, that didn't keep the pavement wet. I'm in containers so watering was a choir. (I carry it from inside since no rain in barrels, to 50+ plants) took me 2+ hours in 90 f heat. Seems you guys had all the rain. Plants grew in the heat, cabbage and lettuce just bolted . Now at last we just started to get rain things are shooting up. Ill be planting my pak choy and lettuce again for fall. First year for many var. of black tomatoes, giant pumpkin, corn and gourds. Cheers, Elaine

    hii,
    do you have any good idea using the available transparent plastic or anything that is able to be recycle year after year to do frost protection for winter sow ?
    thanks
    andrew

      I grow all year in my plastic tunnel, but u may need to heat during the very cold months

    • @andrewyek
      @andrewyek 6 років тому

      hii , you meant poly tunnel or the plastic tub ? how do you make a poly catterpillar tunnel that won't be blown away by strong winter wind ? and how to make one that easy for storing and accessing of vege ?
      thx
      andrew

    Hello Brian, really useful information my friend and thankyou. I am trying the lettuce Winter Gem and I have started to plant the Late Variety of Carrots in flower buckets and hopefully they will last me until the spring, think they are the same variety as you planted. Some of my over wintering Leeks are going to seed and I have never seen this before !!!!
    😆 Happy growing,
    Terry.

    The weather has been crappy all over N. America as well. Here on the west coast of Canada there is nothing but rain. Hardly any summer. Some of my friends in the US say the same thing. God Bless

      Ive a about 80% of mine come up George, when did you sow them? and in what compost?

  • @spanishlifeinthemountains8035
    @spanishlifeinthemountains8035 8 років тому

    Would the cabbages be OK to sow direct to soil where I am? Or shall I just try and let you know?

    • @ciggyhore9997
      @ciggyhore9997 8 років тому

      Ali i like to sow in modules then plant out... the main reason is that you need to control spacing etc for cabbages, carrots are fine as is swede because you can thin them out

    Nice job Brian and a good reminder that Autumn is around the corner. Just about to start sowing my cabbage and cauliflowers.
    What has happened to Ulster Bill? His channel has disappeared from my subscriber list and I can't find it with a search. I know he is part of your admin team???

      i would write to the supplier and report that the batch you had failed, include the batch number... T&M are a good firm and im sure you will get a full refund, if you have any problems let us know and we will help you approach them George. hope that helps

    Hey Brian. Would you recommend Kings Seeds. Saw you got some cabbage from them, and I’ve been looking at their catalogue. Or any other subscribers - what are your thoughts?

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening  7 років тому

      Kings have been going for years and have decent seed, Brian is no longer with the channel he has moved on to pastures green. There are many many good seed companies out there and kings is one of them

    For reasons I don't understand swedes prefer to be a field crop. I have never been successful in the garden plot.
