  • How to overcast the edge of your fabric using a zig-zag stitch on your Janome computerized sewing machine. This lesson was done using the Janome 6700P, but the information in this video can be applied to any computerized Janome, Elna, Bernette, or Necchi sewing machine that has a zig zag stitch. The stitch number may be different on your machine, but the process and machine settings are the same.

Thank you for explaining the M,L and R designations on some Janome and Juki sewing macines. I tried to find out that they meant and had lots of trouble. I even read every work of my machine's users guide and nothing was mentioned on these letters. I found this by accident as your video mentions the M foot, however the zig-zag stitch M doesn't mean use the M foot. I had two thoughts,: one was what you mentioned that width expands from middle, left, and right. I was going to test this, but you already clarified, thank you. The other thought was maybe that is where you should start holding the thread when you start sewing. I always start sewing with the top and bottom threads to the left of the foot as that is where the cutter leaves it. I thought maybe it meant hold the strings to the right, left, or back of the foot (as that might mean middle of the stitch.) Is there a correct position to keep your threads at the start of sewing? Is it stitch dependent? Thanks for the video.

The purpose of holding the threads at the beginning is to keep them from being drawn down into the stitch hole in the needle plate. I only hold them for the first 2-3 stitches. Where doesn't matter as long as it's not in front of the foot.
