AudioQuest Yukon XLR review: gold standard of XLR interconnects

- Many reviewers recommend this cable as a "gold standard" that works very well in every system - and it has good balance between price and value. This is one of my real AQ interconnects that was backbone of my Stax SR-007 setup.
I still love it - and yes, it works excellent in every setup Ive put it in.
Kimber Carbon xlr's, interconnects
Shunyata Python xlr's, subwoofer
Sometimes AQ stuff ships with a fingerprint removing cloth. I got one with my Niagara 3000 and some of my Water XLR/RCA's but not all of them.
@@aa5az423 yes you can also just buy it separately, it polishes the silver. But it doesn't matter except for looks as oxidized silver conducts electricity as well as pure silver
Well Water has DBS, so this one not and to compare you would suspect that this Yukon would sound more with the caracteristics of Water without the DBS. So more highs open airinish etc. Would you agree?
@@onnonugteren2935 yes and no :)
Water is better cable and as such is as airy and transparent with DBS connected as Yukon without it. Which means it gets even better when DBS is disconnected:)
I really like both of them, but their prices are quite high even when buying used.
@@k4syxI bought two used pairs of Water. One pair is XLR. Another is RCA. The Water RCA pair is newer and came with DBS level 'X'. The Water XLR pair is older and came with DBS black. I found that the DBS level 'X' gave more sparkle trebles than DBS black as I tried swapping them around.
@@chatrs1025 thanks, that's really interesting. I have level x and regular versions home, I'll try to look for differences - and I can swap them and see if I hear this in my system too!
@@k4syx Yes let us know. thanks for the attention and post chatrs1025
How this compare with fake dragons? Thanks
This follows the AQ ladder so Water is better, then fake WEL bests Water. Dragons - I hope to have review FINALLY finished next week.
Gold standard of hi fi rip-offs.
@@simonzinc-trumpetharris852 well this one is 100prc real and genuine :D
I'm always marking my fake cable reviews with "fake" somewhere in the title.
This is 100prc legit, genuine cable bought from official distributor with regular invoice.
@@k4syxWhat he is trying to say!! Someone that can solder or crimp can just buy the best connectors and decent wire can build the BEST it's ALL in the connector the wire has no MAGIC.
@@thinkIndependent2024 yes, it has no magic, it's all physics and just physics. Having said that I've compared these to my (my as in I did them all myself) diy based on Neutrik XLR plugs and Mogami, Sommer, Canare (so decent wires, right?) and these and a lot of others were better. So no magic, but not exactly as simple as putting some wire between plugs...
@@k4syx Best Connectors on the end of decent wires, I've made connectors for Studio Recordings & Live Sound
Can make a reference quality XLR cable with a length of Belden wire and Neutrik or Amphenol XLR connectors... total cost less than $15...
