My eyes swell with tears everytime I hear this song by either Vince G trio or Jerry trio. Putting away Christmas decorations and still listening to Christmas songs. Such deep heartfelt memories of a childhood long past. Im 67 now....nearing the end for sure. More beautiful past memories than future memories for sure. Loved my innocent and safe childhood.
The brushes always reminded me of walking through deep snow on a winter's night. The tempo is perfect and the constant touch of the brushes swishing on the head while caressing the cymbals is comforting. It reminds me of walking on a snowy night in the winter in the little country town I grew up in. Wonderful!!!!! Thank you, Jerry. I know you're looking down and smiling on the effect you have on us who enjoy your music.
The last standing survivor Jerry Granelli of the trio has passed away at the age of 80 July 20 2021 The Peanuts music was the soundtrack of my childhood!! RIP Jerry!!
Late to your post, but it's Christmas time now (Dec 10th) and I just want to thank you for posting that. He was a great part of the VG Trio. Ditto, RIP Jerry.
As many times as I've heard this song, from the original broadcast to now, I can't listen to this without tearing up, so many memories come to mind. This is even more special seeing the original drummer performing on such an icon song, it's not Christmas without hearing this at least once during the holidays.
This song is walking thru the park at night and looking at all the Christmas lights thru the trees ... perhaps a little light snow ... back in the day when you could walk thru a park at night ...
I lived in a "Charlie Brown town" in the country and this reminds me so much of walking safely at night through the snow with my friends, having the same kinds of conversations that Charlie Brown and his friends had. I lived in the right place, at the right time, with the right friends. Where would we be without the memories of Peanuts and these songs?
I've always felt this is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever, with or without the vocals. This performance is exquisite! Pretty much anything and everything the Vince Guraldi Trio was a masterpiece.
Jerry is so smooth here beautiful brush work and serving the song with a touch that is amazing letting it breathe making it look so easy , this tempo is very difficult to master 🌲🌲
Loved going to the annual Christmas concert in Halifax. Wonderful, happy memories. Jerry was not only a great musician, but also a great story teller. RIP, Jerry.
It wouldn't be complete without Charlie Brown's Christmas tree on the stage... Music is just beautiful...I listen to the Charlie Brown's Christmas soundtrack every year, without fail.
I keep coming back to the classics, but what I'm seeing is Schroeder on the piano pig pin on the bass and Snoopy playing the drums. And let's not forget Linus's rendition of what Christmas really is.
SO COOL SEEING THE CHARLIE-BROWN FAMILY WITH LUCY AND LINIS , REALLY BRINGS ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD DAYS WHEN READING THE COMIC STRIP IN THE NEWSPAPERS !!!!
This is the first time I've heard Jerry, & I think one of the things that makes his playing so great is his passion for the music! Evident in this piece, but also in some of the other postings that are a little more up tempo etc.
Well, if you watched the Charlie Brown Christmas cartoon when you were a kid, then you've heard him before because that's him playing on the original sound track with the Vince Guaraldi Trio!
I don't even think that guy was alive when the original was recorded lol pretty sure the drummer is the only original to play with Vince. Great trio none the less
Don't blame the bass. It's perfect. The acoustics of the stage are terrible.Been there, done that. With the proper setup, this would sound much better. I played drums with these same acoustic instruments and the sound could come out a hundred different ways. These guys are wonderful!
You can't do Christmas without Charlie brown
Impossible!!

I didn't know this sad news until I read this comment. Thank you, Jerry Granelli. God bless you.
It’s sad that we have lost all the greats of the jazz world. Good thing we have a place like YT to at least get to enjoy great performances like this.
wow had no clue thought vince did it all on his own
What an amazing sound and what a great job these gentlemen do with their performance of this classic !!! 😊😊😊

My favourite piece that's played every Christmas time at home. Timeless!
Agree 100%
This music reminds me of a better time for my family and this country

Yes
I cannot listen to these songs and not instantly smile.
These songs will forever be entwined with some of the most magical joys from my youth.
What a master drummer he is. Fantastic touch and feel.
I shed tears every single time I hear this masterpiece--so beautiful and introspective--(to quote Antonio Salieri in "Amadeus") "the voice of God."
played during Christmas or any other time... this is a jazz masterpiece
Absolutely! This tune moves me like no other!

These Jerry Granelli videos in tribute to the music of Vince Guaraldi are treasures!
This session should have been made available on CD. I’d buy it in a heartbeat. 😊
One of America's finest pieces of music, ever!
Loved going to the annual Christmas concert in Halifax. Wonderful, happy memories. Jerry was not only a great musician, but also a great story teller. RIP, Jerry.
Nothing more brings you back to your childhood then this so incredible Magical one of the best pieces of music in history
Quality drumming, so impressive.
How can any rational thinking person give this a thumbs down!
Christmas just can’t be Christmas without Charlie Brown.
Gorgeous version of one of the most beautiful tunes ever...love this!
This always makes me cry
This song is timeless....absolutely ❤️
This is a stellar performance of a composition by stellar composer. Yes, Christmas Time is here when this piece is performed. Thank you for sharing.
Man. Life is so beautiful
Rest in Peace Sir, your sound will be with us all forever.
It wouldn't be complete without Charlie Brown's Christmas tree on the stage...

He is a master, always. ❤

Must be such an incredible honor for those two to play with the legend!
Great job! It's wonderful to see Jerry still going!
SO COOL SEEING THE CHARLIE-BROWN FAMILY WITH LUCY AND LINIS , REALLY BRINGS ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD DAYS WHEN READING THE COMIC STRIP IN THE NEWSPAPERS !!!!
I CAN ALMOST VISUALIZE LUCY HOLDING THAT FOOTBALL ONCE AGAIN FOR CHARLIE TO KICK , AFTER HE FINALLY TRUSTED HER TO HOLD IT !!! HAHAHAHA !!!!
@@orkycathcart6397 DUDE YOU NEED TO STOP USING CAPSLOCK!!!! That is like yelling at people, and very impolite.
Who cares if you use all capital letters or not ,stooge

now Jerry is back Playing with Vince...R.I.P
¡Qué maravilla de trio! (DEP,Sr Jerry Granelli)
That intro was a great start to this beautiful Christmas classic.
Such a masterpiece, Jerry is absolutely brilliant ,
Perfect fireplace christmas music
Just perfect
Those magical brushes...that’s the sound
I've been playing brushes for over 50 years and I still haven't mastered them the way Jerry Granelli has. Brushes are so underrated.
Some of the cleanest brush work I have ever seen. I think Jerry was about 25 when he recorded this for the soundtrack.
I so agree, the brush work is so underrated and under apprecated.
Colin Bailey played the drums on the original recording.
According to both Wikipedia and AllMusic, it was Jerry. Where did you get that it was anyone else?
@@Ratboy2004 Monty Budwig and Colin Bailey played bass and drums on "Greensleeves".
One of my favorite Christmas songs!
What a great trio
Vince and company put the "merry" in christmas with this tune.
Love that album and show....
Dear God, I pray that there's a decent recording of this performance somewhere.
Very Nice , smoothie version etc cheers & Best wishes to All😜💕🌈
Beautiful!
what a treasure
Ranks right next to Santa and the original Miracle on 34th Street in conveying the spirit of christmas.
Nice version. So sad Vince passed so young.

Soooooooothing
How can a percussive instrument sound melodic?
Answer: Jerry Granelli!
If he ever comes to the Montreal jazz fest, I'm there faster than you can skate a figure 8....
Genius
Watching the solo on the bass, I know where they got the voice for the teacher on Charlie Brown.
Production ideas have a goodnight
I was just wondering if the gentleman that is playing the piano is he the character Schroeder? This is really Exquisite music at its best!
Chris Gestrin on piano...
I don't even think that guy was alive when the original was recorded lol pretty sure the drummer is the only original to play with Vince. Great trio none the less
Schroeder only plays Beethoven :)
Michael J. Fox on bass.
'Geri' from Geri's Game on drums.
Looks like Simon Fisk...
Not shaking enough
Santa Claus on drumz
I love it, but I think it would be hard to play in time without a solid beat.
Beautiful song played by real artists. Just too much noise (coughing, baby crying, etc) in the background to saturate in the beauty of the music
Great playing, too bad about the lousy acoustics.
The bass sounds strange...
Don't blame the bass. It's perfect. The acoustics of the stage are terrible.Been there, done that. With the proper setup, this would sound much better. I played drums with these same acoustic instruments and the sound could come out a hundred different ways. These guys are wonderful!
