Hi! This song is the fist chapter from her album: EL MAL QUERER (Bad Love) In this chapter she is predicting a toxic relationship although she still wants to go through it. The lyrics talk about bad predictions in a very methaforical way. "Ese cristalito roto" (that broken glass) refers to the transparency in a relationship which is broken. "Siento que estoy andando por un puente y que la acera, cuanto más quiero cruzarlo, más se mueve y tambalea) refers to an unstable bridge that gets more and more unstable when she keeps crossing it (a toxic relashionship), etc.

@@NuetralCodeMusic Also a methaphor about how society's raising lil' kids to be killers. She's the bull chasing the man, but the bull always gets killed by the man (torero). Think about it, 'Malamente' as you said means badly, as a conclusion, as in 'not that way, I disapprove'. So glad you liked it. You girls should really listen to the whole album, it's a pice of art.
There's this guy named Jaime Altozano who's a genius, and he analyzes the whole album. Give it a try, is in spanish, but you may be able to put some automatic subtitles on or something...

No te pases. I don´t known if you speak spanish but if you don´t understand what I saying I can translate and explain it to you with detail.

Hi girls! :) I am an spanish girl so I can tell you what is this song about... the whole album tells the story of a woman who is on an abusive relationship with her man, this is the first song and it talks about a premonition, how all the signs around her were telling her something bad was about to happen... on the last song she sets herself free... so this album encorauges women to empower themselves :) i think is very beautiful and i love her voice too! Anyway i liked your video, you are very nice! :) kisses, Miriam

There is a lot of Spanish symbolisms, one of them is the figure of the "penitent", who in the Catholic tradition walks in procession during the festivities of Spanish Semana Santa (Holy Week). It has nothing to do with the KKK. Thanks for reacting to this video!

It is a prelude of the tragic love story that will happen in the rest of the album. The first sentence means "there's a little broken glass, that I felt cracking, before it hit the floor, I knew that it would break...." "ese cristalito roto, yo sentí como crujía, antes de caerse Al suelo, ya sabia que se rompia..." as in she knows that is going to end badly.

His music is very poetic. The woman seen with modern stereotypes and the man with the ancients. The bad relationships between couples is what is based in this song. Listen to the whole album because it is based on an Occitan novel written around 1270 entitled "Flamenca".

The meaning of the song is about a toxic love relationship. Where the man is macho, that's why rosalia is represented with the motorcycle as if she were being bullied, as it would be with an animal. (Spanish tradition). Or for example when she lets the machine lift her and put her inside the truck. This song is the first of the album the bad love (el mal querer) and explains the bad feeling when starting a relationship that will only bring grief.

There’re many interpretations with this music video, but the overall meaning is kinda like her introduction, this is the first song of her album (a conceptual album that tells a story), and she’s briefly explaining the concepts her album will talk about (a toxic relationship and the outcome) : love, toxicity, heartbreak, grief, woman empowerment... amongst others. and her aesthetic’s basically a mix between classic spanish with catholic elements, and modern day details like the clothing and the set, which is nowadays

Her videos normally show how she grew up with. This one in particular show's spanish "sub-culture", the culture we handle in the streets. We have car races, we love flamenco, there's bulls and all the elements that appear in the video were specially chosen to show to that.

@Expecially3 This song has a bit of a back story. I’m not sure if anyone has explained, honestly I didn’t take the time to read all the comments. Basically, this is the first track of a conceptual album. The entire album tells the story of a woman who falls in love with a rich man that gets jealous and ends up locking her up. The title of this track, “Malamente” meaning badly, roughly translated, has also a second title “Augurio” which, roughly translated, means premonition. The lyrics talk about knowing from the get go that it was going to be a bad relationship, foreseeing the awful things that are about to happen to her. Please listen to the full album, every track is a banger. The interesting thing about Rosalia’s style is that she is mixing urban music with traditional flamenco beat patterns, and adding elements from trap and hip hop, creating harmonies around the main vocals and thus creating a full orchestrated dramatic sound.

Well, the meaning of the song is very abstract even for us (Spanish). Rosalía has already said that the hole album is based on a novel written in the XIV century. The novel talks about a women that fell in love with a man, they got married and the toxicity of the couple led her to an abusive relationship. The original novel is really old and the women's roll is really poor. Rosalía has made an adaptation with a stronger and more independent character. This first song talks about the couple it shelf. They both are really toxic to each other, the man is constantly playing with her emotions, she really depends on him... This is the general idea but there are a lot of points of view about this videoclip.
Sorry if I make mistakes or if I misspelled any word, English is not my mother tongue.

    • @NuetralCodeMusic

No mistakes, I understood everything. Thank you, it's so cool how Rosalia based this off a novel and added her own twist to things. She is very talented, and we enjoy how unique this video, and even the sound is. Thanks for watching, and commenting!!

  • @Morenetemorenete
    @Morenetemorenete 5 років тому

Greetings from Madrid, Spain!! First, thanks for react to our artists and specially Rosalia, we love her!!
Second, please react "Tu de Aquí No sales"...the song talks about abusive man. In this song (more than a song, i consider it a Skit or Interlude), Rosalia becomes this man, and tell her wife she doesnt go out their home, she is his prisioner, and tell her things like "Mucho más a mi me duele, de lo que a ti te está doliendo, conmigo no te equivoques, con el reves de la mano, yo te lo dejo bien claro....", that means "this is hurting me much more than it's hurting you, dont get me wrong, with the back of my hand, i´ll clarify what i say..." its a threat of hitting her if she doesnt obey him.
The LP is a full story of a toxic relationship based on a book called "Flamenca" writen on 15th century but Rosalia has changed the story, becoming the victim in a strong woman able to do anything for getting her freedom, even kill his jealousy and toxic husband.
"Malamente" tells the firsts meetings with his boyfriend. He is not good but she doesnt notice and "Augurio" (the name of the chapter related to this song) is how Gipsy people usually calls to a bad omen. Definitely, each song its a chapter of this fantastic story , an ode to feminism and a call to those women who are or were victims to stand up and fight.
Sorry for my english if something its not understandable,
    XOXO

You should check the whole album. I am Spanish and I'm not so into flamenco, but Rosalía has started a new genre, flamenco mixed with trap vibes and alternative ones too. I wish you could understand the lyrics, they are so important in the whole album. If you wanna see more, I suggest you watching Rosalía singing Catalina in the Reina Sofía Museum, in front of the Picasso's Guernica picture. Catalina is a song from her first album, and that's pure flamenco. You will be able to hear her beautiful voice. That song is heartbreaking and meaningful too. I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you so much for reacting to Rosalía. She is a hope for Spanish music. She mixes our tradicional type of music with new vibes and that's challenging but she's made such a great, fantastic job. I hope enjoy the whole album El Mal Querer. TRÁ TRÁ( that's what she says in Malamente, now In Spain that phrase is Iconic).
    P. D. : In order to understand better the whole MV, it's better to do some research about Spanish folklore. There's a huge amount of references to the Catholicism, Spanish tradicional outfits... It's a complex MV.

Just in case you're wondering, she's singing Flamenco, which is a traditional way of singing mostly in the southern part of Spain, she's mixed that with some kinda trap beats, that's why she's so unique

Que la respeto y me gusta que haga lo que hace, tiene merito. Pero las cosas por su nombre. Esto es pop no es flamenco. This song is the first chapter of a whole story. Her whole album tells a story: each song is a chapter (capítulo). The story is about a girl who gets married, and the marrige ends up being toxic... This song's meaning is: there's something reeeaaally bad coming.
The second chapter is the wedding, in which the lyrics literally say: "if there's anyone against (the wedding), don't rise the voice so that the bride doesn't hear it. It also says: the ring shone like a blade.

Probably you didn't understand the symbolism of the images. Try to imagine in the 60's young black people from New Orleans and young cajoon familes from the rural areas and swamps from deep Lousiana migrating to work in the new industrial plants in Detroit and living togheter in the skid rows areas around. The video shows that cultural and musical mixing 60 years after in Spain

Her vocals & the beats she interjects are specifically sounds from Spanish gypsy culture.
If you are impressed by her vocals, you should hear David Bisbal. He a Spaniard who uses that same vibrato vocalization which is central to the gypsy/flamenco sound.
If you checkout a flamenco performance, you’ll recognize the typical clapping & vocal sound these artists have borrowed from in their songs.
