I think the music of chance is such a wonderful discovery.
Gina is peak exploitation, hits all the notes you want but it feels like it has something to say.

A real treat indeed. Such an unusual narrative but one that works really well. Gina was a strong recommendation from the Discord server and they never steer me wrong.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment :)

Far from Heaven is Todd Haynes homage to Douglas Sirk specifically All that heaven allows, imitation of Life and Written on the Wind. Your Sirk observation is spot on. Julianne Moore is excellent.

Haynes certainly does not hide his riff on Sirk. Everything is in service to it. The almost dream like quality of the sets, the colour palette but the real strength is in the performances. Perfect to a tee and never feels too schmaltzy. Thanks Steve.

Eo has been in my basket for a while. Music of chance is a miracle of a film. Remember seeing it on video when it came out. Beautiful, odd fim. Another 90s classic American indie corker. Excellent suggestions as always sir. Massacre time is so much fun.

It was a beautiful and odd kind of episode. I watch Music of Chance together with my wife and it made for a really interesting and charming watch. EO will be a certainty for a Random Review :) Cheers

Each of these sound like they are worth a watch.

I think Far from Heaven is one you'll enjoy a lot, if you can forgive its melodramatic feel. It's absolutely fabulous.

Looks like I'm picking up EO. Delighted you like Gina. Don't think I've seen Far From Heaven since it came out. Julianne Moore is a stand out, but I remember being really impressed by Dennis Quaid too.

The discord server never steers me wrong in terms of recommendations. A small, but very knowledgable sets of film nuts across all genres. Gina is one I've been hankering to revisit ever since I watched it.
The whole cast of Far from Heaven is terrific. The key scene between Quaid and Moore is right up there in terms of all time performances. A fantastic discovery for me this year.

Hi Chris - This is a great episode since I have seen 3/5 films (missing EO & Massacre Time). Paul Auster is a fantastic writer and the film of his book (and screenplay) The Music of Chance is great. Check some of his other books if have not done already. Gina was an early semi-autobiographical film from Denys Arcand (Jesus of Montreal, Barbarian Invasions) which stemmed from his tumultuous time as a documentarian at the National Film Board. Celine Lomez is great as the title character, too bad she stopped acting soon afterward. Well done!

Thanks Ben. Auster is an author that I've yet to delve into but one that always comes highly recommended. I have some bookstore credit that I've been wondering what to use it for, and this seems perfect.
Gina was such a surprise watch. It continues to stick with me weeks after I watched it and that is based on truth makes a lot of sense. Truth in storytelling is hard to fake. Such a shame Ms Lomez didn't continue to be a big star. CiP continue to publish interesting releases that I would never come across otherwise.
Your thoughts and comments are much appreciated as always. Thank you!

@@chrismohan The New York Trilogy is often considered one of Paul Auster's best works. It's a collection of three interconnected detective stories set in New York City and is highly regarded for its unique narrative style and exploration of identity and reality.

I loved both EO and Far From Heaven. I know of The Music of Chance but haven’t seen it. Not familiar with the other two. Great comments on all

Delighted to see another fan of EO as it's an unusual but deeply thought provoking film. Hopefully you can stumble across Music of Chance some day and add it to the shelf :) Thanks as always Neil. We'll have to find some way of communicating outside of YT so that we can organise you to get on the podcast :)
