Firstly, great vid! I would also like to see actor/director/cinematographer pictures for a top 3-5 on the sidebar, as well as lists. But most of all I would like to customize the banner photo! As a patron I love that the first film of your top 4 gets you a banner, I just wish you could upload your own or at least have it be from a film not in your top 4. It would be a nice feature for non-paying members as well.
I used to agree with number 1 but tbh the fact that letterboxd let you choose only 4 favorite films has now become one of their trademark and branding with all those interviews they do with film folks, asking for only 4 films, in a way its something totally unique to letterboxd now and their image.
I heavily disagree with #7 as I feel as though Letterboxd is meant to be community driven and help you discover films you would've never given a chance before hand. Adding an algorithm would make it so you only watched the kinds of films that you currently like instead of finding a whole other side of cinema you never knew you would've loved.
I don't think he meant replacing the current system but more of a new tab like "Letterboxd Recommendations for You" or something like that so you could have both
For Number 4, I think there are 3 options: 1. They don’t add any TV shows at all. 2. They completely restrict it to miniseries. 3. They add every show. If they chose either 2 or 3, I think shows should have their own rating system, so you could not only rate the show as a whole, but also the individual seasons, volumes and episodes. Maybe you could even have a separate favourites list on your profile just for shows! This is an incredibly tall order but I think if they managed to pull it off it would be great!
I think you've covered it well. I'm in favor of either option 2 or 3, but it seems like Letterboxd is going to continue to operate in the grey area between the two 🤷♂️
They should definitely go for the 3° option, execlitly the way u said, I use an brazillian app called "Banco de dados" i love it, but I would like to use just one app (letterboxd), they should copy all the gadjets of this app. They should add a calendar for upcoming movie relases (and series eventually)
I don’t enjoy seeing TV shows on Letterboxd because to me it is a film space. In a world hungry for ‘content’ the lines between film, show and series gets blurrier everyday, so I enjoy having a space that is dedicated to just film. That being said, I think a compromise would be to allow all shows/series onto the site and to let users filter out the medium(s) they don’t want to see.
- I think we should be able to follow, directors, actors, actress, studios, etc. -They should add a calendar for upcoming movies releases (and series epsodes eventually) - Letterboxd should go all in into the series stuff, add all of then, but we need to be able to rate and mark as watched each episode, able to add favorite series on our profile, mark series as abandoned too, the 3° point in the video would enter here too. But they need to put films and series in separated spaces - We should be able to configure how we want to see display our films tab for ever, I hate that every time i need to put "recent added" - It shouldn't be necessary to click in review or log to put a film in your diary, I used letterboxd 1 year just clicking in watched in the movies, lost all the dates. - The algorithm point I like, but should be just a brief tool, not something too big to spend houres in the app - Overlap list would be fucking awesome. - Tottaly approve add fav directors, actors and actress, 5 fav films to your profile and point 10, 6 and 5
I wish you could search specific words in reviews when already in the film's page. So you could search something like when “cinematography” is mentioned in a review of “The Lighthouse” for example
How about creating folders or sub-folders for your lists? I make quite a bunch of lists and find it a little tedious to have to scroll to find the list I want to edit, and the only filter options I have is just sorting them by name or date, or just filtering by public/private. With folders perhaps it would make navigating my list page much easier. Or, at the very least, how about having my lists in a grid view rather than a 1-column list view.
Nice video man, you talk about the things in a very satisfactory way for the viewer. That's very cool. Edit: I would really want to see lists of actors and crew.
An essential for a stat freak like me would be a) more results for most watched/best actors/directors b) the possibility to filter those lists - especially by films watched (to set a minimum for the best actors/directors list), but also by country/decade etc.
i love Letterboxd, i think it's my favourite social media ever! even tho i didn't interact with anyone and just mind my own business. i think in general, Letterboxd is already perfect, but i do want Tv Shows to be added to Letterboxd, and if the shows have more than one season, then the best result is just to divided the shows for each season, so we can rate each season differently.
About tv shows, either add it or don't, it's stupid that mini series are added and longer ones are not. I personally think that they shouldn't be added, but it is better to add them then to ceep some and not the others
The best feature they could add is a way to sort films by country. Like if you wanted to see the best films from Korea for example, or all international Oscar nominees. This combined with algorithm based recommendations could make for the best user experience on a film site.
_what I think would also be interesting if there was a way to add favorite movie characters (at least 1) or I don't know "if you were a movie character which would you be?"._
2 things I'd love too see added are a comparison feature, like you mentioned in the video, where you can compare the movies you and someone else have watched and the scores, and a 'status' bar. Your activity page only allows you to see activity from you and your friends, but it doesn't let you write anything about what you're thinking unless you review a movie. AniList has something like this. Actually, Letterboxd could (and should) take a bunch of features from AniList.
I think there should either be all tv shows or letterboxd on none at all, miniseries aren’t movies they’re tv shows, how are shows like the haunting of hill house and maniac and wandavision on letterboxd even though it’s a movie app
It personally doesn't bother me much one way or the other as I barely use Letterboxd. But for my two cents, I think unless the video is explicitly considered film (by the majority?), it shouldn't be on the site. They tend to be typically quite different forms of media in my experience. I just found it very strange when I first noticed Black Mirror and Sherlock episodes (amongst others) coming up on searches, lists, and whatnot. But I kinda understand it. Though I certainly appreciate that others would much rather have shows included more fully, or just left as is.
Yeah, I think the line between series and films is only going to get blurrier and blurrier as we’re neck deep in the streaming era. I just really want Letterboxd to come up with a consistent system that makes sense.
@@cineflect Mmmm I think you're right, it probably will. And yeah that's fair, as it does seem a bit variable at the moment. I wonder if Letterboxd were to come up with (or share) their specific definition/criteria, if it would help any. Though there'll always be some unhappy folk regardless unfortunately.
One thing I would personally like to see alongside top 4 movies is top 4 franchises. I find myself wanting to put an entire franchise in my top four but instead having to pick one individual movie which is so hard.
I almost added that to the list! It was a fateful day when those got shut down. The message boards used to be the first place I went after I saw a film. I know there’s reasons why message boards can quickly become problematic and that there are alternatives to IMDb’s now. Really not sure if Letterboxd would ever take the leap. Honestly, I’d like to do an entire video on the subject 😃
They really should just add TV shows to Letterboxd but then have a specific tag/section for them. It's so irritating when some shows are on there but not others. Would be nice to just have everything you have ever watched on a single site.
If you didn't mention having a different section for shows, I would've disagreed with you. In my view, since the posters on Letterboxd are just images and a title, it could be confusing at a glance which are films and which are tv shows if everything was just slumped together.
I prefer RYM because the users are absolutely brutal with their ratings. Having an average of 4 or above is an incredible feat for a film. Plus it’s got entire databases of music and video games as well
I like the ad hoc nature TV is implemented currently. There seems to be some discretion as to what is or is not worthy. Those who wish to participate, can.
I really like the stats page on letterboxd, but I always find myself wishing I could expand the 'Stars' and 'Directors' sections to more than my top 20 most watched/highest rated. I want to see my numbers for aaaallll the people I watch. Unless there's a way to do that I'm not aware of?
in the stats page i would like to see most watched director and actor by highest percentage watched. would make it an interesting comparison between film makers who have only 5 films Vs one with 20 films, for example. and seeing how close you are to completing someone's entire discography could be fun. would probably have some kinks to figure out like a minimum requirement or something or not include films that aren't out yet
