Just moved into a mobile home park in GA, having lived all my former 55 years in California (just turned 56 on May 30) - where moss doesn't normally grow except maybe in the most northern forests - and am DELIGHTED with the natural moss that grows around my home! It's been pretty wet, so it's growing like gangbusters out in the shady back area, and I am hoping to get more of it to grow in this bare patch by my deck, out front. Just transplanted a little yesterday to add to the little that was naturally growing, and am really happy to see I mostly did it right! :) I have a dozen or so ceramic mushrooms I've collected over the years that I added to hopefully provide a little protection from the sun on summer days. Hey Edward JLo... Thanks for your comments. It's good to hear that you've shifted your perspective to the "mossy" side of lawn landscaping. Indeed, mosses are perfect for Bonsai creations, too. I started using mosses in terrariums as a child. -- Mossin' Annie
A warm and big hello from England! I just happened to come across your video and I am rather pleased I did in deed ! I like you have been in love with mosses for as long as I can rememtber. as you may know here in England and the British Isles in general, there's a huge variety of mosses. I very much enjoyed you video and the result was magical. You mentioned where you gathered some of your mosses but I was still surprised by the huge amount you have! lovely ! Cheers from London
Hey Catalina, Thanks for your comments. MOSS lovers, like you and me, live all around the world. I noticed moss in a news story this week in Kate's new children's garden. I follow several bryologists that live in the UK, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. YES, we keep busy at Mountain Moss rescuing mosses from places where they will be destroyed. This week, we gathered Atrichum angustatum and Leucobryum glaucum moss species from a gravel driveway that was planned for paving and a septic tank area. Cheers from the mountains of western North Carolina, US. -- Mossin' Annie
Great video of different mosses and planting techniques. I really enjoy your moss videos since the only place I have to grow moss is in a terrarium. I am also reminded of my younger years growing up in Appalachia.
Thanks SequoiaElisabeth. You and I were both lucky to grow up in Appalachia where mosses abound. I made my first terrarium when I was a little girl in Asheville, NC. I still make terraria for fun! But, now, the landscape is my canvas and the mosses my paint. -- Mossin' Annie
Thanks, Larry. I agree. It is a magnificent boulder that I featured as an anchor rock in my moss garden design. Hint: Decide where you want to locate "big" rocks from the beginning. It's not like redecorating your living room where you can try out different arrangements. Believe you me, that rock is HEAVY. It takes 3 strong humans to budge it. -- Mossin' Annie
Does it matter if you cut the moss (with the scissors... I have the time) when the moss is dormant or rockin'? Is one way better than the other? Also, should I step on it after? Please keep making videos. I started from your first videos, and i feel the longer, watching-you-do-it formats is really works for what you're doing. You have no idea how much this video has made a positive difference in my day. Things are wild right now and this exudes calm and love. Just what the world needs right now! Very inspirational. Thank you Annie!
I have 3 acres of woods.....We are, I am, slowly getting the woods cleared out and I really REALLY want to have a floor of moss with ferns, hosta and other shade lovers.
Hey Susan... Glad to hear that you want to encourage MOSS on your property. Clearing debris, weeds and especially leaf litter will be advantageous to your efforts. BTW, not all mosses need to live in shade. Another point of information -- deer will eat hostas (and even some ferns) BUT deer don't like the taste of mosses. Good luck with your mossin' in your woods! -- Mossin' Annie

Are you confortables down and moving rocks in your garden? Think is not the best way to work even if you aren't professional :-( . Beautiful garden with those plants an so much moss, love it.
Thanks for taking the time to comment on this video, Jose. Indeed, moving rocks should be treated seriously with concern for proper personal safety. If you are picking up a rock, it is best to plant feet firmly and squat with your back straight while lifting. In some cases, I will use a sled to slide piles of rocks to intended locations... amazing how many heavy rocks can be moved easily this way. Most times, I ask one of my assistants who is much bigger and stronger than me to move feature rocks. Sitting boulders must be moved with a skidsteer or a tractor with a bucket. In this case, although I wouldn't have been able to stand up and carry this particular quartz rock hidden under the decorative Acer tree (miniature Japanese maple), I was able to scoot it around because the ground was muddy and I could slide the rock okay. One definite safety concern would be my footwear -- heavy boots are much wiser than flip-flops. --Mossin' Annie

I have fallen in love with Moss and transplanting from wooded area to my Secret Garden, filtered shade. Living in West Tennessee and not sure the botanical name of the Moss I"m digging up.
Ok just fell in love with moss!!! I think I need to go rescue some too!! 💕 LOL checking out your website also, love the educational ID kit, if I could afford it, this would be a wonderful home school project!
Hey Chromedaffodils... love your "name." Daffodils are my favorite flowers. Look for rescue opportunities... places where houses will be renovated or torn down; roofs; edges of parking lots... to find mosses. Please don't go to the woods unless you own the property or have permission. Definitely, don't "steal" from our protected parks and forests. I did a rescue last weekend from the Interstate buffer zone next to a car dealership. This week, I rescued from a location where the cottage was being torn down and the grounds destroyed in the process. We got 10 sleds of Hypnum! If you want to start your own "herbarium" collection (that's what dried mosses in ID packets are called at universities), you can start collecting different species. You could purchase your own close-up lens or jeweler's loupe to take a closer look at the tiny botanical details of bryophytes. Your challenge will be trying to identify your species. My bryophpyte ID kit eliminates the need to determine species. If you are a home-schooler, then the ID kit could be a project and lesson to share with other home-schoolers in your town. It really fun to check out the intricacies on moss plants and teach the students about the oldest living plants on Planet Earth! Thanks for your comments. All Best, Mossin' Annie

Oh yassss, Bing watching you. Thorough and sooooo cute. Are you close to Tennessee? I got lots of moss and ferns for ya, in my yard. I need your wisdom! Question....mixing the different mosses, does it eventually make a hybrid? Also do I need to leave space for the moss to grow? What about the ones I want on the table for show? Do they just stop growing or grow taller? My favorite moss is the stuff that grows in cracks that’s real soft and condensed. The only moss that’s not in my yard 🥺. I snagged some this weekend. Just enough for a small pot. I want to grow a lot of it. Any suggestions?

It took me a whole summer to pull out the grass on the hill by my house. I gradually planted moss which was so green and pretty. Hubby sprayed it with 2 and 1/2 oz. of roundup per gal of water. this past spring to kill the weeds. (Didn't tell me). He didnt thinking would kill the moss. Moss is now brown and yellow. Can I save it? Weeds are coming up just fine now through the yellow moss. Please help.

I've already made use of some in 2 bonsai trees. one is a honeysuckle and the.other is a holly bush that invited me by popping up outside my door. Mosses work well in terrariums too.
Check out Serpa design on youtube also.
Hey Edward, Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out.
Loved watching your instructive video! Hope you have a great 2020 for beautiful moss plantings!
Hey Again "ForTheEarth" -- Thanks so much for your encouragement. May you also enjoy a great 2020 with MOSS! -- Mossin' Annie
Oh yeah !! Oh yeah!!
Loved it❤
Great video of different mosses and planting techniques.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video, Annie. Learned a bunch! Subscribed, liked, and will buy your book. Thank you!
That big rock is beautiful.
@@MossinAnnieMountainMoss I start with the big rocks, then work my way down to the pebbles.
Love your video, so helpful.
Thanks, Ms. Tina. Hope you enjoy moss gardening yourself. -- Mossin' Annie
I’m the Moss Boss.
Couldn’t have loved this more
Thanks, Lindsay... more videos coming soon about moss maintenance. --Mossin' Annie
Aguga is my favorite because it will grow on a slope. Mine is easy to pull. Think your netting is the problem. Love the moss , want to try some!!
Well Mossin Annie, I thought What the heck can I do with this area of my property, its gettin no sun and the lawn is All Crap and the only thing that is down there is Moss Right by the Stream. I never knew that there was so much you could do with Mosses. I am sold. I subscribed and I will be checking out your Channel to get new and Exciting ideas. THANK YOU for what you are doing!
Hey Lionel, Yes sir! MOSS is BOSS! Mosses provide beauty, spiritual uplifting, and solutions for environmental and erosion concerns. Check out my Web site: www.mountainmoss.com for LIVE moss for sale, my book and a range of professional services including consultations and turn-key moss installations. And, eventually, I'll be giving lectures around the country again. I appreciate you taking time to share your new enthusiasm for mosses! -- Mossin' Annie
@@MossinAnnieMountainMoss Moss is Boss and I hope to be walking along a carpet of moss on our property very soon. I will be scouring MountainMoss.com
Man i love your videoes. What is that theme song in the beginning?.
Hey eroplane77--- Not sure if you are referring to hammered dulcimer music by Jerry Read Smith (from Strayaway Child album) or new music created by Slim Spoofy (actually my son's creative expression). Glad you liked it though. -- Mossin' Annie
Learned a ton! Fun video🥂🙏🏼

Hey J. Bird... you got a laugh out of me... it's hard to believe that I'm so old... when my heart is so young still. HEY back at cha from North Carolina. -- Mossin' Annie

Real life TreeTrunks from adventure time, I’m finally home!
Is there a Mossing Annie guidebook to mosses? I want a copy!❤️
Hey Philip, I have written a book, The Magical World of Moss Gardening. Autographed copies are available from my Web site. If you have enjoyed my videos, I hope you will choose to support my mossy endeavors by buying it from my Web site instead of a big box book supplier. www.mountainmoss.com/products/soft-cover-book
Thanks, Mossin' Annie
Inspirante !!!
Thanks, Danny.
Thanks, Danny.
I live near Charlotte NC! Would love to garden with you someday!! I need to learn! 💚🌱
Hey Mandie, I was just in Charlotte last week doing some seasonal moss maintenance at one of my successful moss installations. Brevard is not that far away from you. Maybe one day you can come shopping at my Mossery or once the health situation improves, I'll be offering moss workshops again. In the past, I've taught a number of classes as part of UNCC's Botanical Garden native plant certification series. If you want to learn more, autographed copies of my book are available through my Web site: www.mountainmoss.com. --Mossin' Annie
Thanks for the video. Is it okay to use tap water to keep the moss moist? I heard that the chemicals in it can kill the moss.
OMG love it :)
THANKS... I'm in love with MOSS, too.
hello Annie, i took moss from the wild , i placed it on the soilon my cactus pots, any recommandation? Shoukd i have placed stones under it?? i found the moss growing on old concrete would like to show u :)
Love this !! Does it grow well In home ?
I'm thankful to have found you 🌱💞 Have you ever thought about adding some moss to an aquarium? That's my hobby. It's amazing! I can't wait to catch up on all your videos!!! Xoxo
Hey CMaylene... Personally, my main interest is creating moss landscapes -- outdoors. However, there are several people in my FB group, Go Green With Moss!, that enjoy indoor moss applications -- terrariums, aquariums, palludariums and more! Why don't you join my group and showcase your own aquarium talents? -- Mossin' Annie
Make more moss videos please. Thanks
Where can I buy moss? I’m in Clearwater Florida . Any suggested species would be appreciated too
Hey Kevin... You can buy LIVE, fresh, ethically-harvested and cultivated MOSS from ME -- www.mountainmoss.com. If you like my videos, I will appreciate your support of my small business in the mountains of NC during these challenging times. You might want to order my book, too. As for species for Florida, I suggest Leucobryum, Entodon and Atrichum angustatum as options. There are many versatile moss species that can tolerant the heat index of sunny Florida. Lol, this video cracked me up :D
Where is the best place to find nice mosses in the wild?
wonderful! You can tell it's the South with all the gunfire.

That's what I'll do!" I so enjoy the version performed by First Aid Kit! -- Mossin' Annie
Follow up to my previous reply... I actually wear Italian leather high heel boots when I'm rescuing mosses from steep hillsides in the woods. I wear purple Keen's when I climb up on roofs. But, most of the time, I'm wearing my purple leather fairy boots. --Mossin' Annie
sorry for a-moaning and agroning (14:31) classic phrase
I guess that I wasn't even conscious of my comment but it sounds like me. I have realized that I use quite a few colloquialisms in my verbiage. Mossin Annie's going to be Sore Back Annie by working that way.
WOW
Her energy screams main DND npc. I wonder how Annie would react if she visited a Japanese moss garden.
Hey Shetasen... I would be overjoyed to visit a temple moss garden in Japan. However, my dreams would come true if I could work alongside the moss tenders instead of strolling through. I would most certainly be most respectful of Japanese etiquette. I imagine that I would have to restrain my delight to conform to their cultural traditions. --Mossin' Annie
@@MossinAnnieMountainMoss that would be a dream. There's a video series called japanology and theres a special on moss. Do you propagate any of your moss or are they all rescues?
@@Shetasen Yes, I've seen several videos from Japanology. Thanks for reminding me. Yes, some of the rescued mosses are designated for propagation and cultivation purposes at my Mossery.
Came looking for moss planting techniques, turns out they weren't in this video and the title is misleading.
But stayed (for a little while) because of that ridiculous way of talking. Oh my. What a hoot. Great character, do you do stand-up?
your a sweet girl, I want to be good with moss, your videos help alot.
Well this video just tickled me 🤍
My family and I just went to Vail and Breckenridge for a ski trip in Colorado. I found a bunch of mosses growing in between bricks and along sidewalks. I gently packaged quite a few of the masses up and brought them home to Nebraska. They are now in various terrariums. I don’t know what the mosses are but they are everyone’s favorite souvenirs. And they were free.
