I think he tried to love Garner bc J-Lo had married Marc Anthony and bc of the baby. But as things moved along, he realized that she wasn't right for him and that he didn't love her. Then, the newness of the baby wore off and he became very unhappy and bitter. He had time to think about things and realized that Garner had tricked him into the marriage and he was not happy about it. There was some type of power struggle going on with the two and he really started acting out doing things to hurt Garner very publicly. But she held on getting more kids thinking that would eventually win him over or keep him in the marriage until she couldn't take no more. He held on to the love he longed for which was J-Lo. But he couldn't and their happiness didn't last very long. These pictures are early in their relationship before he took real stock in the fact that she got pregnant to get him. He was madly love with J-Lo and she got in the mix when his advisors were telling him to break-up with J-Lo. He was seduced while Garner was pretending to give him a shoulder to cry on while seducing him on the DL bc she was still married to Scott Foley. So you know that happiness was not going to last. He never got over Jennifer Lopez no matter how happy he looked then. That didn't last very long at all.

@@kyla3635 I reread my comment to answer yours. I never said that he loved Garner. He tried to love her and he tried to make it work with her but it failed miserably. I think he tried to love Garner bc J-Lo had married Marc Anthony and bc of the baby. But as things moved along, he realized that she wasn't right for him and that he didn't love her. Then, the newness of the baby wore off and he became very unhappy and bitter. He had time to think about things and realized that Garner had tricked him into the marriage and he was not happy about it. There was some type of power struggle going on with the two and he really started acting out doing things to hurt Garner very publicly. But she held on getting more kids thinking that would eventually win him over or keep him in the marriage until she couldn't take no more. He held on to the love he longed for which was J-Lo. They finally divorced bc he couldn't continue to be in an unhappy relationship regardless of children which he hated to do but he just could no longer live a life of unhappiness. Then he finally saw his chance to get J-Lo back came again and he went to her. It was sad bc so many years were lost for three people. Garner knew Ben was not in love with her but she wanted him so badly that she was willing to do what she felt was necessary to get him no matter the cost or who it hurt. It wound up hurting her more than anyone but it also caused a loss of time and happiness to Ben and J-Lo.
Garner was a rebound relationship at best. Their best time was the beginning of the marriage when he found out that J-Lo had married Marc Anthony. He tried for the sake of the baby. But it wasn't right for him.
