    The driving mode reverting back to normal is for a reason. It is so you don't start the car and forget it's in Trail mode.

    A Car uses 30% of its fuel to get from 0-15 mph, the mild hybrid electric motor assist is to reduce that initial fuel consumption.

    Very happy with my new Puma apart from a couple of occasions when it didn’t start at traffic lights and I had to mess around trying to turn off the ignition and start it again to get the engine running. The cars behind weren’t very happy. More annoying was when I was trying to make a right turn across traffic and nothing happened when I pressed the accelerator pedal. Not dangerous though as I was still on my side of the road.
    The only serious actual fault is that on two occasions I couldn’t select 5th gear at all. They were during long motorway drives and made my journey much more stressful. On both occasions they worked the next day perfectly and been Ok for10 months now. The dealer says there is nothing they can do if they cannot reproduce the fault but ideally I would like whatever fault it has fixed during the warranty period.
    A more frequent annoyance is that the syncing between my IPhone and satellite navigation sometimes refuses to work when attempting to select a destination. It doesn’t happen all the time, maybe 1 in 20 times. I have to switch everything off including the ignition and the phone and unplug the lead and restart everything again for it to work. The dealer said it happens so just live with it. They said no car is perfect which I found irritating considering how expensive brand new cars are these days.
    But despite all these grumbles I love the car generally, as it is fun to drive and is very economical despite living in a city, giving me regular average consumption of over 50mpg which is decent for a mini SUV.

      Hi, yes agree the auto stop start sequence is horrendous on the puma, have been caught out a few times too. Engine should really start up when clutch pedal is pressed down - not when you put it in gear! Other than that it is a engaging car to drive, steering, manual 6 spd box and chassis all work well together, just needs more power / torque. Thanks for your detailed comment.

      @ yes I agree about the power as I wanted to buy the larger engine size as that has plenty of dash when required but 18 months ago there was a massive shortage of new cars and I had to take the only model that was available for quick delivery. I was without any car at the time, as my current one then had been written off in a motorway smash with a hit and run lorry, spinning me out of control across all 3 lanes of the motorway. Fortunately the car was hurt but myself and my passengers weren’t. But I am used to the gentle acceleration under normal driving now and I have always got Sports Mode if I feel like having it sharper on acceleration. Eco Mode feels very sluggish though and doesn’t seem to improve the petrol consumption by much either, so I don’t use it as much as I imagined I would have done beforehand. Petrol is £6 to £7 a gallon here so economy is a big player.

      arh yes the world chip shortage. Sounds quite a nasty incident on the motorway, glad everyone walked away uninjured.

    I don't think any new fords have automatic door locking now , my 2019 focus doesn't, but you can lock them from a button on the drivers door.

      My 2023 Puma ST Line does have auto door lock. I didn’t need to set anything myself. Maybe the dealer preset it before being collected.

      Just from passed experience in previous cars, ventilation was always on even with auto stop/start enabled. Especially when setting off from ice /frost cold temp.

    The wife just bought a new Puma ST Line and I took it out for a drive, it's certainly a strange feeling as the mild hybrid generator cuts in, but I soon got used to it, the digital display in sports mode is very nice, and I quite like seeing the battery generator appearing on screen. The missus gave strict instructions to just drive on the dual carriage ways, but I was really enjoying driving it and decided to take a trip on small farm roads up to the top of Firle beacon, the puma really handles well pulling hard up the steep country lane. When I got home the missus was raging, she had been tracking me on the Ford App 😬

    Test driven a puma before, most annoying thing is the mild regen braking. Youd probably get used to it but id personally like the option to turn it off

    • @rossdev
      @rossdev 9 місяців тому +1

      You get used to it very quickly. I wouldn't be without now, I'm sure it has saved a lot of wear on my brakes over 3 years of ownership.

      Not really noticed my much regen braking. If anything stronger form of engine braking.

    • @SJC9726
      @SJC9726 9 місяців тому +1

      @DK388 it's definitely regen, there's a menu on the dash that shows the hybrid system working. Think it goes green when you lift off (regen) and blue when it's kicking in / helping

    • @SJC9726
      @SJC9726 9 місяців тому +1

      @rossdev I'll agree compared to a full electric car, the regen was pretty mild and would probably become less noticeable after a while

    A Ford dealership told me that the reason for the mild hybrid approach was purely to help meet emission targets.

    • @DK388
      @DK388  2 роки тому +1

      Funny thing is previous car a 5 year old insignia 1.6 diesel is less polluting than a 2022 Ford Puma 1.0 petrol 🤷

    • @peterhugo2078
      @peterhugo2078 15 днів тому

      The irony is that the emissions are even higher than many older standard cars do, so had really high car tax. But tax changes coming in next month seem to remove low emission tax advantages.

    Selection of sports modes. Just about all cars do that. Not just fords. Regards the hybrid, a quick bit of reading prior to buying a car might help. Buyers remorse. The mild hybrid helps initial acceleration when the turbo may take time to come in. Sounds like you need to return the car. As it’s quite obvious you are unhappy with it.

      It's an outstanding car, the best I've ever owned and I have driven a few brand new cars in the past year. I will have sold it by the time battery needs replacing.
